you are right. the japanese watched closely to find out how the brits got the torps to stay shallow. the planning for the attack itself also was written with the first battle of the japanese/russian war in mind. in fact the attack flags on the akagi were the same ones used by the japanese admiral in that earlier battle.

Tom , great looking CP there. Progress has been really slow since last week (only glued the fuselage together and the wings but haven't attached them as the CP still isn't finished!). Going to try real hard to get some time in this weekend.

Thanks YG, Mucker, Jay!!!

YG - my motto is why put off until tomorrow what you can do next week!

I got the fuselage joined tonight and it is sitting there as I speak curing (I have noticed Tenax and Ambroids don't like to be sanded real soon after gluing) sanded the engine down (thankfully I found an online build that pointed out a fit prob before I even got to it so I was good to go when I dry fitted tonight)

Hopefully I will be through the major things this weekend and leave painting for next week...

Kevin - good to hear!!! Yeah I've got all the sub assemblies except the engine cowl together now and about to put it into something that looks like a plane.. there's a few oddball things about this kit (out of necessity to be able to mold it) that has had me pausing here and there figuring a way around it... over all a fun build and really doesn't look too bad! Pics later today, I'm still waiting on the primer on my fingers to dry first. Wink [;)]

Joe - thanks! should have some more pics coming up this evening... not sure if I will be able to rig it this week as I have to travel cross town to the only shop that carries a selection of plastic stock to find the proper bracing. I've been half tempted at times to rig it in thick thread but I am trying to go true blue on this one...

Progress...........................
Not much i cut sprue on the Wildcat tonight and spent a couple of hours scribing the panels out of the c/pit floor and cleaning up all the interior parts, tommorow i'm hopeing tp paint the interior green and white before starting the detail painting, I was hopeing to get my hands on the eduard PE set for the Wildcat and i did order it a month ago but still havn't recieved it so i'll probably have to stash it for a later wildcat build.....

ok I have been a modeling fool this afternoon!!! (of just a fool, not sure Wink [;)])

Put a coat of Alcad on the P-26, I think I agree with some others, the black Krylon isn't for me.. I'm going to go for MM Gloss Black with future over it like rjplasticmod suggested. It went on ok but it was hard to get it to a good gloss and I am waiting to see what happens once it has set all night... I know with the Alclad black thinner it made cracks all over the fuel tanks on my P-47 I was doing, several others had that problem too.. I think even grey primer suggested by alclad might be another way (with future on top)

Anyway, it does look decent and I still have another coat to go on for tomorrow.

I got the engine cowl together around the engine .. not THAT was a job, I had to sand the cylinders to get it in right, you have to get the cowl on the engine BEFORE it goes on the body... right now the alclad II is sitting and I will sand tomorrow...

If this kit has a prob with the Alclad I will still post pics as a learning experience ... one of those "don't try what I did" things... and get another kit of something else... maybe I will go on ebay and look for one of those Monogram PBY's...

Anyway, should be a couple of days til finish.. I'll try and post pics of the Alclad tomorrow after the second coat... the nose looks GREAT... the wings are a little spotty where the Krylon shows through, tomorrow's coat should cover it...

Hmmm Tom i used tamiya gloss black enamel as a base coat on my Mustang and the Alclad II cracked evrywhere except the uppersurface of the wings, i will try again with a different undercoat but if it cracks again i'll lose faith and avoid NMF schemes like the plague................

Jules - on checking Alclad's site they actually recommend Tamiya primer or Future for the primer for the non shiny NMF's. The only thing you use the black primer for is the shiny and prismatic finishes... I know Rick recently said he used the MM black with future on top for his with good results...

BTW: the Krylon didn't crack on the P-26 (yet), but I had better results just spraying it from the can than trying to AB it... Went on a lot smoother.

Calvin - I really LOVE Alclad when it goes on right.. problem is the gloss black isn't what is recommended for the primer for that type of paint, but it makes it LOOK better when done... auto or Tamiya primer is recommended for the non shiny colors, as well as plain future... I want to do one in plain future soon or maybe auto primer and see how it goes... I have the feeling it will do better.

I've seen too many paint jobs done with it for it to be the paint, I think for me it is my application of it... too thick on the first swipe. I'll post a pic of the P-26 here so you can see how nice it is... it really shows nicely!! I think it's a bit of a learning curve for some of us though... and my biggest recommnedation is not to use the Alclad black thinner unless nothing else is available... it never dried.. ok well about a month later it was cured... but too long for me...

I've started the cockpit assembly and glued the upper and lower half of the center wing section together. I was a BIG section and ARGGGGGGH! I got a thumb print on the rivet detail on the upper surface! That's what I get for rushing!

made some headway on my Vals painted both Tamiya IJA Gray and set the other Val up for a coat of IJA Green and masked the areas of the fuselage for the splotches before I did that I took pictures of the Vals unpainted then overcoated them with black and took pictures again then masked the cowl and part of the sides so these areas would remain black. I'll post pics after I paint the second Val green.

everyone is making so much progress and here i sit going backwards. i made the mistake of biting more off than i could chew. i believed i could redo the nose so that the variant would be correct. well guess what.................

.................in about a month i get to make an order so that i can do the correct variant. so until then this build is stalled and shelved. im not out but i have definitely stalled.

Tom I think i'll give the future undercoat a go next time when i use alclad, i reckon it's self flattening ability would be good for an undercoat........
