Oh!!! I almost forgot to add this Colonel - Madame (Nurse to most) Kremps is a lithe, svelte, ex wrestler from the eastern bloc. She carries her 300 pounds on a sprightly 6 foot 3 frame as daintily as could be. Able to crack billiard balls between her legs, then gently care for the mentally challenged at Happy Acres Rest facility, she is a legend to us all.

Recently she was let go from Happy Acres for (allegedly) pilfering out of Sean (Tweety's) bingo night holdings. We rallied together and got her to come back from Tibet where she was learning to wrestle water buffalo. She now hangs out mostly at the corner bar picking fights with the merchant marines in port and occasionally we call on her to settle some dispute of modeling technique or plane markings for us.

In the North Africa GB I am currently building her mount, a Martlet Mk.IV "Black K" from her days spent in Egypt. Tanky is contemplating building a 1/16 bust of her representing her at her finest, during her days in the K-9 unit on the eastern front. She had to be let go from there too as she kept biting the other dogs and wouldn't sniff out an escapee from the prison camp when asked.

Anyway stick around and you too will be a welcome inmate guest at Happy Acres! She has been through 5 group builds with us and has proven to be a worthy ally!

Tom,

I quiver with anticipation in making this fine young lady's aquaintance! After 5 GB's she must be a stalwart of support! However, a delicate young flower like this would not be caught dead in a Martlet, but because of her lineage might be more at home and comfortable in the roomy cockpit of the Me 108. I've seen one built with desert camo, and might be just the thing for this maiden of modeling. Big Smile [:D]

As you might guess, I'll be sending in my application for a room at the Happy Acres facility as soon as they bring me my black crayon. Might I list you as a reference?Smile [:)]

lol Colonel Joe! You're in mate! I see we have picked up another "usual suspect" due to the beguiling ways of Mdme Kremps. When you get to Happy Acres, walk right up to the front door and tell them "Stumpy" sent you... they'll know what ya mean. Wink [;)] I believe the tool shed is vacant, seems That ended up in ICU after Kremps stumbled on him out there...

carlos the most important part is to have fun. as far as letting someone down that cant happen. there is no pressure and no expectations. just have fun.

as far as how this works just build and post pics. interact with others and have fun.

well I could do the 1/72nd scale Fujimi Aichi D3A2 Val which I have 2 from the 50 year anniversary set of the end of WWII 1945-1995 which I will build up as any of the 4 following airplanes: BI-231off of the Soryu Dec 7 1941, AII-234 off of the Kaga in 1941, EII-206 off of the Zuikaku Dec 7 1941, BII-213 off of the Hiryu Dec 7 1941, BI-231 was piloted by Lieutenant Commander Takashige Egusa and the Bombardier/Observer was Warrant Officer Tatsu Ishii and BII-213 was piloted by Warrant Officer Toshikatsu Nishihara and the bombardier/Observer was Lieutenant Shun Nakagawa. to clarify things I only have 2 1/72nd scale Vals. Now I also have a 1/72nd scale F4F-4 with markings for VF-9 and VF-6 from Hasegawa and a Airfix/MPC TBD-1 Devastator with markings for a pre war TBD-1 from Torpedo Squadron 5 but I could find a way to just make it a plane from Torpedo Squadron 6.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Carlos you doing your Kate in overall IJN Grey or the 2 color scheme of IJN Green with IJN Grey splotches on the upper surface and sides of the fuselage. And with IJN Green on the wings and IJN Grey on the underside. and will you do it with Torpedo's or bombs since it seems that the Kate did horizontal bombing as well at Pearl Harbor.

Joe I'm definitely interested in the Group build so I may do the Val's and if I have time do the WildCat.

I could be potentially let down if I post my Kate and it is put to shame. I may then have to sacrifice it to the model gods (hahaha just kidding.)

i believe all know how i feel on the subject. to me this build is to honor those who died and those who survived on both sides. that is the heart of it. it is my wish that all who participate in this build do so with that idea in their hearts. the interaction between members is fantastic. it is my hope that all enjoy the build. it is also my hope that all who have signed up or shown interest will participate. it seems that in group builds less than half of the people who say i am in actually do anything when the build is in progress.

thankyou for being patient with me in this. thankyou for showing interest.

Geez guys you are start making me paranoid about doing a Kate Big Smile [:D]. As far as mine goes it's going to be pretty much OOB with the exception of some PE seat belts. I also might wimp out and go for a commercial pre-cut mask on the canopy.

BTW, it's nice to see some traffic on this thread.

Cheers

Yeah Eduard does some pretty nice PE sets especially with some of the sets having multi part Instrument panels and throttle quadrants that give the model just the right kind of look and best of all are the sets that have different seatbelts for each nationality. and if your looking for seats weighted tires or bombs or rockets True Details is your best choice and then there is Verlinden descent Resin part all around. BTW Eduard is coming out with a new express mask using Tamiya's yellow tape.

BTW Joe how many of the 60Kg bombs did the Vals carry on each wing during the Pear Harbour attack one or two?

Ok joe....

heres what im going to build...a 1/48 Val and a 1/48 Kingfisher in memory of the Arizona and the aircraft she carried on her catapults.

I have always been a fan of the Arizona since i built one of my fisrt kits the classic revell kit and found the little silver and yellow winged planes interesting.

I would like to find some reference material...on these if you have any material please let me know.

Mike,

I'm trying to find the exact reference, but I believe I read somewhere that they were only outfitted with the central bomb and did not carry any ordnance on the wing.

CS,

I have a decal sheet I can scan and send to you that has Val Pearl Habor markings, if your interested.

Also, were Kingfishers on the Arizona at PH or was it the bi-wing predecessors of them (Curtiss SOC 'Seagulls')?

Aurora - they were Kingfishers, click on the link and check out pics 79 and 80. They are a Kingfisher from the Arizona taken in Sept, 1941.

Hey Hey, I'm in for sure 100%! With some super sleuthing and my amazing powers of deduction, I figured out what I will be getting for my birthday next week! Would ya'll believe me if I said an A6M2 zero in 1:48 by Tamiya? Big Smile [:D]

Actually it wasn't all that hard to figure out. I went to a model shop with my wife (I was thinking this could be bad or good). Then she starts asking me questions about kits and models I would like but then I see the Tamiya zero kit and I got all excited so she buys the zero with a warning "you won't see this again until July 8th!" Hot damn I love my wife.Blush [:I] (for more reasons than that mention above!) - and my to-be-built stash grows....

Does any one know of a 1:48 decal set for the Zuikaku? otherwise I guess I could mask the markings, it wouldn't be all that hard.

Jay,

I just went searching for markings, and only found the Shokaku and Kaga available by Eagle Strike. You can get them from Squadron.

Well I pulled out the Kate the other night so that I could "sniff the styrene" and get into mood for the build. Don't worry Joe I haven't started yet.
I might have to place an order with Squadron soon so that I can get the AM bits that I need. Geez, after all this time there’s only 5 weeks till kick off Big Smile [:D]

Cheers

Yes, Colonel, I found those two sets as well but I thought maybe someone had seen/heard of one. If I really want one from the Zuikaku, I guess I'll have to mask them! Thank you.
