hmmm true... would be hard to find paint schmes for it though. The reference in the box is all the 30's bright yellow and green scheme. let me get back to you!

(besides it will earn me brownie points with madame la Kremps!)

Joe if you could I would appreciate you sending them to me or posting them here.. I found an overall OD one today, an actual pic taken before Dec 7.. but would welcome the chance to see more of it... the NMF one sounds good too... especially because it is a 1/32 kit. Too bad I cant use it in the bright schemes... they are something to look at in that... But it would definitely fulfill my quest for "fringe" builds within GB's...

---edit---

Darren - another pic of you, at the top of the page showing a Pearl Aircraft... looks like they were fairly fresh, maybe some exhaust staining...

Yup-- that was my pick too.....although it looks like I'll have to gho with the old OD/NG scheme as the only NMF Peashooters I have seen pics of are pre-war ones....

Jules - actually I was at the GOOD LHS today and learned the P-26's at Wickham were done in a NMF and that sounds kinda neat for P-26... definitely something I haven't seen before!!! (per the Squadron book on them) still the jury is out... since I am doing a Spit for the NA GB I might sacrifice my WIldcat for this one because it WOULD be nice to do wingmen! sned me a scan of your decal sheet!

Tom I know it was a page back now, but muchos gracias for the links my friend. That sure makes my job a lot easier on when it comes to chipped paint schemes. I sort of figured (hoped) the aircraft would be well cared for but wasn't sure if they’d seen a lot of active service in China before the attack.

Jules I have some pretty good references for the Wildcat, let me know if you need anything OK.

Cheers

Darren - no prob! Being former Navy myself and knowing Navy's have a lot of similarities worldwide... I figured they would have been dolled up, just to show the Americans how good and proud they were of who they were and what they were doing. I posted it somewhere else before but I remember the Marine helicopter squadrons being up to 0300 and beyond at times getting an aircraft spitshined for the next day (after damage or maintenance)

Jules - I'll have to check Joe's reference, I seem to have seen one online listing crew members and perhaps plane numbers as well...

No prob. I have been contemplating painting it, but the thought of all of the masking work and cutting the templates makes my blood run cold. I found a nifty three view of it but it's about 1/144 or smaller. I'll keep looking. Hey, who knows, maybe the EAL bird was at PH that day flying some millionaire in to pick up a load of fresh pineapples and mangoes!!Tongue [:P]

FOR THE P-26 GUYS!!!

I have a book called "Flying Colors" that contains a side profile of an OD/NG P-26. The caption states that it was at Wheeler Field "December, 1941". I'll try to scan it and get it posted here.

roadkill-275,

I had sent an email to you in regard to the DC-3 scan and decals, I'm awaiting an answer from Steve of 'Hawkeye Decals' in Oz, regard to your request. What scale are you looking for as this bird ?. If I don't get a reply shortly I will catch him at our forthcomming Model Expo in melbourne over June 11 - 13 weekend.

Roadkill - much appreciated! The NMF Peashooter was listed as at Hickam in 1940 so maybe it would be better to go with the OD scheme. Although a NMF P-26 done in Alclad had me thinking hard about it... woulda looked cool!

I'm glad it's 1/32 too... the 1/72 ones are TINY!!!

According to the caption in the book, the type was retired from service but the squadrons kept some as trainers and hacks. Can you imagine training in a P-26 and then stepping into a P-40??

Okay, my scanner crapped out again. My technician is going to work on it, but I won't be able to post anything until next weekend. The book is Flying Colors, written by William Green and Gordon Swanborough, published by Salamander Military Press in 1981. The ISBN is 0-89747-121-0. Hope this helps as this book has been a valuable source of reference for me.
