Still thinking about this one. I know what I would build. With August being the fiftieth anniversary of the first flight of the Lockheed U-2, I’d backdate Testors’ U-2C to a 2A. Will see as we get closer to May.

Oh yeah, I love that badge. I say we stick with that one.
BTW, what exactly is the update to this thread?

Tankmaster, I'd like to build from both sides of the Cold War, so I will also do a DML BMP-1 if that's okay

that's a nice patch too, but I'm sticking with the one already here. The Soviet military parade IMO is a brilliant example of the Cold War in full swing.

I guess I should've set the fall of Communism as the closing date, for some reason I see the beginning of Peroistroika as the end of the cold war. But you're right 1989 should be and will be the ending date.

That badge looks good too. Can you put a small gray drop shadow on the lettering? It would make the word "war" stand out better against the blue bkgrnd on the american flag. If you need any help just ask.

I propose a more generic badge because there are non-armor models showing interest.

The Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989; how about using that as close date?

I was thinking the same thing you were Zokissima. I saw one in my LHS yesterday. I think I remember it was $25. I don't think I'm gonna do it though.

Squadron has some very cheap 1/400 Maquette subs. Even if they aren't good quality, I might get one just to add a sub to this GB.

If I find a reasonably priced Zvezda Kursk, I'll do a dual-build, but I haven't seen one around for a while.

I posted this in all of the pertinent forums but I guess they don't want to come over and play.

There should be a couple subs in this GB. Any submariners out there? Seawolf class doesn't quite make it in but Los Angeles class is good. Soviet attack or patrol class sub just screams for this GB.

Im up to my ears in GBs right now , but I really want in on this one. Put me down for a Cheiftan plz. Id like to do the Accurate armour conversion for a mk 10 but I suspect my finances will only allow me to do the regular Tamiya mk5

I vote May1st. for the start date. May day, you know, the worker's holiday. I shall stage a military parade in "Moscow" (my basement) and inform the People (a bunch of legos) that construction is begginning on a new weapon with which to strike fear into the hearts of the Western capitalist pigdogs! SoapBox [soapbox]Then, a display of soviet might (my toy soldiers will fight each other). By the way, if all goes well, I'll be posting pictures of these festivities! Oh, and my model kit too.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Yeah, so anyway, I vote May 1st for the start date.

EDIT: Oops, i forgot to read the rest of the threadBlack Eye [B)]. Shure, the open endedness is fine. But i'll still aim to start on May Day. Or at least hold my parade.

Ok, forget my last post. A shell propelling artillery piece isn't really representative of the Cold War. Comrade Sergei is doing a Scud and that gives me the idea to do a Nike missle. So, please allow me to join in with a Nike-Hercules

There is a Revell 1/40 kit but mine will be scratchbuilt in a smaller scale probably with the mobile Goer launcher vehicle (very plain squarish boxy looking thing with wheels). I have the plans so the missle is an easy build. Difficult part is finding tubes that are the right size Black Eye [B)]Smile [:)]

I'm interested in this GB. I can do a T-55 or a T-80 but I really want to do an artillery piece (ie a BIG GUN). Is there any such animal that qualifies as Cold War equipment. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mac, that would be the unit. Any unit that was stationed in Europe, NORAD. Alaska and Japan would be allowed. If they were in a shooting war or a UN sanctioned "event" then that would fall under a different GB. Yes I am planning a Viet Nam GB sometime in the near future, depending on how well this one does. Your CH-54 would be fine if the unit markings are for any unit that qualifies under the guidelines. BTW what scale is it??

Wibhi, glad to see more AC in here!!

Welcome aboard guys!!

I've got a revell 1/48th MIG-21 coupled with an F-4 - So you can count me in with both since they are in the same kit. I've also got a revell 1/32 ah-1g cobra to toss in the mix and maybe get the helicopter guys going.

Hey, the open-ended idea sounds great. It would give people a chance to join, and then finish up whenever they could.

Not involved in a shooting war...are you referring to the equipment type or the unit. I am pulling together info for a CH-54 and thought about throwing it in here.

Thanks roadkill_275. I'm looking forward to finally building the Big Stick though I'm not sure which version I'll actually do.
