Bob - Jules... the coverage is both right and wrong... there was major destruction but parts of the city are high and dry with no real wind damage... it's just the eastern part of the city that is affected. There is a lot of blame pointing going on right now but I think a disaster this size cannot be anticipated.. an area larger than the entire country of England was devastated.. over 90.000 miles (148,000 km/sq)... the sheer logistics of helping everyone is enormous... in fact after the damning reports on the people in the inner city of N.O. being ignored, now it is the people in the suburbs that are in inadequate shelters waiting for news and food... all the help has been diverted so there are others suffering..

I figured out the area involved for the benefit of our Aussie firends... the damage is strewn across the equivalent of 38 Sydney's in a square radius... that's a lot of area to cover even for a country with resources like ours!

Tom-thanks for the update. Unfortunatly, we are often at the mercy of the media for our information, and the media sometimes has their own agenda. More often than not, I fear that they look to the 'extreme' story to generate ratings/reviews and oftenoverlook the broader picture. Granted, there is massive devistation in New Orleans, but I think that you have pointed out that it is a small part of a bigger picture.

I hope your in-laws are able to get re-established back home soon.

edit-two days off and no modeling (other than to pick up supplies). I'm getting lazy. With a little luck, should get the landing gear for the Wildcat painted today/tomorrow, along with masking the canopy (and the canopy for the Mustang).

Chris!!! you saved someone's day... for the moment I cannot remember who it was but they were looking for that exact pic and could not find it... if I find out who it is I will give them your name and let them contact you... I remember now, it was in the WWII Carrier Plane GB... let me hop on over there and tell him...

ok the magazine is an Air Classics special edition P-51 mustang vol5 1986 and i made a mistake it appears to be an early P-51 D without the tailfin extention i was trying to find a better photo myself the only markings i can see other than the national insignia with the white sidebars is the tail# 414817 there isn't much detail as it's a small picture taken from the island of the carrier where the plane is sitting on the deck but the plane is natural metal with a dark anti glare panel i dont have a way to scan but if i can be sent an adress to my e-mail i can mail a photocopy to them

Hi all and happy fathers day to all those who celebrated over the weekend.

I haven't actually done any modeling for quite awhile now (until yesterday) but please do not give up on me, I will finish this build.

Tom, please pass on our best wishes to your in-laws, OI hope they weren't too badly impacted.

Cheers

I understand that someone here has pics of the navalized P-51D? I am looking for clear pics of how the arrestor hook was attached for a possible scratchbuild project for the WWII carrier aviation GB that starts next year. Thanks!!

right now I am finishing up my FW190 A8... another plane I am enjoying the build on... I want to get another one as this one is my first shot at German mottle and while I am getting it I would love to try another having built and painted one already...

Yeah Tom I have the Tamiya FW 190 F which is sitting idle at the moment, guess i'll have to wait fo an appropriate GB to pop up in 2009 before i start it..........

As far as this build goes i'm still plugging away, at the moment i'm playin with the IJN grey to get a shade thats appeasing to my eye, there is that much controversy about the correct IJN grey colours that i decided it's the modelers call and i'll paint the colour the shade that i like the best.......BTW i'm going for the 2 tone IJN grey with a lighter shade on the tail and rear fueselageThumbs Up [tup]

Jules I actually found a bit on that... it seems it was near the same color if not the same but the front part is gloss and the rear dull... no idea why and neither did the author of the article..

Yeah Tom all i did was to lighten the same IJN grey a little more for the rear fueselage and tail, And thats interesting about the forward section being gloss, i may just paint a dullcoat on the rear and see what it looks likeThumbs Up [tup]

I asked this Question over at the Pearl Harbour GB but i'mm gonna ask it here as well....
Do any of you fellas know if anyone makes a 1/48 kit of a Mitsubishi A5M ClaudeQuestion [?]

I think you'll find that Classic Airframes makes a kit of the Claude. It's a Short-run kit with resin for the cockpit and engine. I think it's out of production now, but you might find one in a shop. In fact, I think I saw one not long ago in a hobby shop around here. Don't remember which shop though. I think it was in Sydney somewhere........If you want, I can do some investigating for you.........

Jules - Fujimi makes them in 1/72, the Classic Airframes one that I saw at Great Models was the two seat trainer... it's kind of ironic how much the A5M4 looks like a peashooter...

Daniel, Mate yeah i'd aprreciate it if you had a look around, and that goes for the rest of you "Usual Suspects, I don't care where it is or how much it is but i definatly want the fighter variant............

Tom I had a look at great models and read the reveiw on the 2 seater but it looks a little difficult to convert to a fighter, and your right the A5M does look a little like a peashooter.......BTW if there is 2 Academy 1/48 Peashooters at you LHS can you grab me the 2nd oneThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Jules I had a look at one of the hobby shops I thought I saw that kit in today, and they didn't have it. I might try to give a couple of the shops in Sydney a call later in the week and see if they have it.
