Battle of Midway Aircraft Group Build

Well i'll learn from your mistakes with the udercarriage fellas, I'll double double check when i put it in

Tom I like the idea of moving it over to the GMD because it is going to be more of a discussion group rather than a GB............

Tom & Jules-I concur with the thought of making it a GMD. I'm assuming that we would discuss, build (if we want) & display (if we do). Would allow a lot more flexibility as far as the topic of the builds and allow me to 'clean up' my stash. With the upcoming Battle for Germany, Atlantic & Carrier GB's in '06, I'm finding my self becoming overcommitted. All are interesting builds with good builders. Hard to say "no".

Jules - just remember the large end goes aft... (pointy bullet shaped piece) even though your mind wants to point it to the fore...



that's the piece that goes to the back... I think the instructions don't list it real clear...

ACK!!! with it that close up I just saw how much gap there is on the forward windscreen to the fuselage... gonna have to be more careful!!!

Bob - actually that is a great idea... it would be like a constant GB over the subjects we like at a leisurely pace.. let's face it, mostly we just talk in the usual subject GB's anyway!!! hmmm... maybe instead of Pacific Modelers, just a Usual Subjects discussion? hahaha

Hey my Old Man went to the library sale to pick up some cheap books and he gave me one called the Octopus Encyclopdea of Aircraft which was printed in 1980 and it's all wrong, they have a Profile of a Do 217 and the captions says it's a JU88 also a profile of a Bristol fighter captioned as Airco DH 9 as well as a brewster Buffalo captioned as a CAC Boomerang it also says that it's an Australian Boomerang but it's clearly a RAF Buffalo........Who researches these books............

I just had a visit from a neighborhood friend today he is somewhat of an expert on the engines of the F-15 his names "jive" LOL

I wish *I* had a buzzard........ I think they are kinda cool...

All we have here are the Turkey Vultures and some other type... I think they are Black Vultures...

i'm using yhe tamiya south pacific kit with a little modification to represent the marine version not much was changed between the 2 as far as i can see if you want i can e-mail you what photos i have

yeah after looking back at the pic I realized that... oh well I feel better now that I know you don't have a buzzard either!! I wanna be first on my block!

yup thats the one it's the only one that was in my price range at the time i cant remember if it's classic airframes or AM that has a specific battle of midway buffalo the biggist thing i'm going to need to do is modify the prop some of the references i have show the marine buffs with a spinnerless prop similar to the ones on a wildcat

Hmmm all this buffalo talk makes me wanna buy one, maybe i can do one next year in RAAF markings......

Only have all the little things to do and the Zero will be done, I'll give my sister a call and organise some pics, hopefully it will all be finished in a week or so.........

Chris-Tom's right-we're not going anywhere. This is starting to look like the 'never-ending' GB. My LHS has the Accurate Miniatures Battle of Midway SB2U-2 'Vindicator' and I keep looking at it each time I walk by......

Speaking of 'never-ending' projects, spent some time on my Wildcat today. Broke the antenna....again....able to re-attach. While moving the plane, I heard something rattle. Lo and behold, the little piece of plastic that holds the prop had 'slid' thru the engine and into the fuselage....someplace. Then I was attempting to attach the landing light on the wing and dropped it. Watched if fall out of my fingers in slow motion....searched on the floor-no success. Then brought out the broom and started sweeping. Since I was working at the kitchen table, figured if I didn't find it, at least the wife would be happy that I was sweeping....Well, I did find it and also a solution to my missing piece to hold the prop...a piece of uncooked spaghetti. Diameter was perfect, cut off a small section and attached everything (landing light & prop). Did a little exhaust & gun streaking, made some tape to cover the machine guns out of white decals and called it quits. Will take and post pictures tomorrow after U-12 soccer and before we leave for a school auction and youth group dinner party.....no wonder it takes me forever to finish a project.....


btw-can I have a little cheese with my whine?

Bob - thjose Wildcat antennae have nie lives... I think I or someone fondling admiring my Martlets have broken it off about 100 times aldready... everytime it goes back on like a champ!!!

Sounds like an eventful day or modeling.. quite the stroke of genius on the spaghetti idea!!!

Bob Good thinking with the Spaghetti solution, I've noticed that modellers area crafty bunch of people.......

oh yeah forgot to mention... I got me another A6M2 with marking from the Akagi (Tamiya) so I'm going to have another run at this... I know a little more than the last time I attempted this as in color and not letting your clear bits get too far from the box until you glue them on...

Gotta love Hobby Lobby 50% off sales!!! got me the A6M2, the SBD-3 from AM and F3F-2 from them too... Almost got the Tamiya Pfiel Trainer "Anteater" but I had to resist... would have been too hard to pay back the wife... (I always feel guilty so I take her somewhere... somehow I feel at the amount that would have been I would have to go take her eat Sushi or something...

Tom-glad you got to drop by Hobby Lobby & take advantage of the 50% off sale. I decided that I needed to deplete my stash down a bit until I hit a 50% sale again....I'm covered for upcoming GB's for a while...

Anyway, here are the pics of the Tamiya 1/48th Wildcat. Had to take advantage of some nice sunny weather outside today....
