Chris-congrats on the contest win! Look forward to seeing you over in the Battle for Germany GB. I would like to do a piece of armor for that one also. Will need to do some research/get some help on which of the Tiger/Panther kits will fit the 1945 time constraint OOB. Of course, theres always the Tamiya Marder III.

Tom-what part of South East Texas do you hail from and is Hurricane Rita going to be a threat? Hope you are far enough inland for it not to be.

It took me all day, but I finally got around to posting some pics. Paint is mostly Gunze, the top-side colour is a custom mix (or home brew if you like Wink [;)]). I built the thing pretty much out of the box except the engine wiring and the little PE gun sight on top of the MG. The decals were the ones that came with the kit, I just deleted the red dots and rudder stripes. I figured there had to be a S-12 that fought at midway (either from VS-5, VS-6 or VS-3). Most of the weathering was done with pastels, the salt effect didn't really turn out too visible. The only place it can still be seen is on the upper flaps and elevators. Enough talking, here's the pics:

Hope you like it. I'll have to build another one of these kits one day, they are very nice.
I'm gonna enter it in a comp tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Might pick up a cheap kit or two as well.

Yeah Mvricci, Daniel did one hell of a job with that SBD ehThumbs Up [tup]

Tamiya DecalsEvil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Black Eye [B)]Angry [:(!]Disapprove [V]Dead [xx(]Sad [:(] I hate them, i should have known better than to use them, for the life of me i can't get the buggers to settle into the panel lines, honestly they are like vinyl, I hit them with solvent until they started to go funny and i've cut them with the knife down the panel lines but they still look a little crappy and its too late to change them cause the future is on, The wash just doesn't want to stay in the lines, Hmmm maybe i'll start painting national markings on in future, eduard do masks for Japanese and US markings.....

Almost finished Just a couple more days.....
I'm a little dissapointed with the red spot decals on the wings but the rest of the build has been excellent, all i need to do now is flat clear add some pastel weathering, not much cause i kinda like the clean look on it and then add the undercarriage and a final coat of flat to finish..........
I don't know when i'll have some pics cause my camera is stuffed but i'll organise some pics with my sister and her 5 pix camera this week...........

Thanks for dragging that back again mvricci. Don't know what you meant by it, but I hope you liked my build.

Jules - Sounds like you're having fun mate. I too am a hater of Tamiya decals. They are usually way too thick and are impossible to hide the clear film under a flat coat. Looking forward to seeing your build.
BTW, thanks for those kind words on my SBD.Thumbs Up [tup]

Yeah Pingy I think thats the last time i use Tamiya decals, Eagle strike and aeromaster are gonna be the norm from now on i think............
IYHO what Gunze colours do you reckon would be the best for a Wildcat from the Pearl harbour eraQuestion [?]

Tom, I had an Epiphany today at work, Why don't we(after all the Midway builds are done) rename this thread into something like the Pacific Model builders and keep it going, it will be kinda like the League of extraordinary modelers but we concentrate on Pacific builds, anything we build whether for another GB or not we talk about here......
I can come up with another Badge which can include a link to a photobucket album that shows all our pacific builds.....
I personally have about 2 years of pacific builds in the stash such as Raaf Spits and P-40's Hellcats and an Avenger the list just goes on........
What say you GentlemenQuestion [?]

Jules-will your Pacific build include the China-Burma-India theater? I have two builds awaiting in the stash for that one....

Jules that is a superb idea I've got a whole bunch of RAAF, US & Japanese aircraft that would suit the bill.

Oh yeah I would vote for a yes on Bob's idea to include the China-Burma-India theater, lots of good possibilities there.

You are a genius Jules. The other day, I was thinking about the same sort of thing. I build alot of aircraft from the PTO, so it would work nicely. It would be good to open this thread up for more than midway stuff. Good idea.Thumbs Up [tup]

Guess I am with you Jules Wink [;)]

I am in the same boat-- a pair of Avengers, 3-4 more Dauntlesses, a Hellcat and Wildcat, Corsair...

I have actually just started a Helldiver for a colleague of mine who's grandfather was a rear gunner on one in the war.

Sorry I've been absent guys... had a date with a real @#$ named Rita and just got myself all dusted off here... (kinda) still too hot in the modeling room to work, but I am thinking of buying another small AC just for that...

Jules... Sounds good to me... kinda like a never ending GB of sorts... I just imagine how many posts we'd make in a year!!!

Well all gonna go because I am tired... will fill you in on the details of what a hurricane sounds like on the inside in the morning... (kinda like Kremps when she lets out a belch after supper but worse)

Well i'm glad you fellas like my ideaThumbs Up [tup] So anything Pacific theater Burma and all that on a neverending type of thread...........
So What are we gonna call ourselves, Pacific Model Builders Sound OkQuestion [?]

BTW I'll try to organise a photobucket account that we all have access to and i think every build we do Pacific including the Midway builds should go in it, we should also have a link in our sigs to the account kinda like Joe's Pearl Harbour Models...

I'll be finishing a Zero for Midway a Wildcat for Pearl and an Aussie Spit VIII before the end of the year and next year i'll be doing another Hellcat and a P-40 a Claude and whatever else pops up....................

Jules-the badge looks GREAT! Looking forward to adding one (if not two) CBI planes to the collection.

btw-as far as a 'official' start date, the Pacific 60th Anniversery GB finishes up on Nov. 1, so anytime after that would/should be a good starting time. Or now....whatever.....

The start dates are in Toms capable hands cause i think he has agreed to change this thread to Pacific Model Builders when he feels that Midway has run it's course......
I've almost finished my Zero just one more coat of flat to go so after that i'll be finishing my RAAF Spitfire MK VIII that operated out of Morotai and then my Wildcat.....

As far as the Tag goes i'm not going to resize it much when it eventually goes into my sig, i think i'd like it to be a large one thats why i have had my other Tags put into one gif image..............

well well well... what the Kremps has been going on here in my absence???? Wink [;)] you fella's plotting behind my back again ::paranoid look::

I think out of deference to the Pacific Group Build we should hold off until it is over... and I was thinking if this is going to be more of a discussion thing and not an actual GB do yall think we should move it over to General Modeling Discussion? Just a thought... I'll go with group consensus though...

Gonna go, I am tired but plan to get some modeling in tomorrow... it's been over a week since I held styrene in my hands... Disapprove [V]

Managed to 'gently' remove the landing gear assembly and turn it around as it should have been. Not the best of fits after all is said and done, however, I remember the experience for the next Wildcat.

Tried the BMF method for the canopy & it turned out quiet well. The raised ridges on the canopy helped though. Actually, did both last weekend, just can't seem to get motived to finish up. Tomorrow is out of the question also (a one day trip planned) and the rest of the week is full, so maybe next weekend. After that, going over to the F1 GB-build something shiney & not weather it!
