                        hmmm, maybe you ought to get a Martlet under your belt next Battle of Britain group build! I already have all the info on what mods you need to make to the kit to make it authentic like!

                        Thanks all.

                        Tom-a Martlet is on my 'to-do list'. Lots of interesting options with color combinations/time frames.

                        Jules-I used Model Master Acrylic Medium Grey. I forget the FS number, but it was posted on the Aircraft forum.

                        Same here Jules... Right now I am in the middle of like 3 kits and swapping back and forth as the mood fits... I work on one till I come up to a frustrating or hard part and if I feel like it I take and go to the other.

                        I want to experiment with some paint colors some before putting together and painting the Zero.

                        Q? did you go with the two tone paint schme on yours? I found somewhere they suspect that the rear part was matte and the front was semi gloss. thereby giving the appearance of two difference colors... I'll probably do mine like that...

                        Is that allowed? Wink [;)]...just kidding. For some reason, I can't seem to carve out time to get started on any project, GB or for fun....maybe after U-12 soccer is over (2-3 weeks) and the weather gets a little colder....

                        Well there's a bit of a story behind that Tom, I initially went with an overall coat of lightened Gunze IJN grey and gave the rear section a coat of flat clear just to see what it looked like and whilst it looked ok and you could definatly see a distinct change in tone i couldn't handle the look of all that wing being shiny so i dosed it all in flat clear and then lightened the IJN grey some more and did the rear section slightly lighter, unfortunatly the extra coats of paint covered my preshade totally so i gave the panel lines a very slight going over with some pastels...this has been one of my cleanest builds yet but the weathering is still noticable but subtle...There is a couple of spots on the finish that i'm not happy with but overall it's turned out to be a fairly good build and i reccomend building the Has Zero wholeheartedlyBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

                        yeah I plan on getting one of those for my next build Jules... I mean the Tamiya A6M2 is ok.. but basic.. and it comes with Tamiya decals as well... I'm hoping to be able to scrounge enough off my PEarl Harbor set from Eagle Strike to be able to get the main ones done...

                        Yeah Tom I'm using my Tamiya Zero as a paint hack at the moment and while i think it's a fairly good kit it's not really in the Hasegawa's league on detail because it's such an old casting, And one more thing avoid using the decals, i used em on my Has kit to get an A/C that served on the Akagi and i had no end of trouble getting them into the panel lines.....

                        well im back and despite a little trembeling in my hands i am working on my models agan (a little slower than before) anyone know what would be the correct underside color for a marine Buff at midway im assuming it would be the same as that on navy types i need to hit hoby shop soon as all i have is RAF sky "type S" on hand at the moment

                        Chris - you're probably right.. usually the Marine AC were wearing the same color as the Navy... the SBD-2 I did from VMSB-241was light blue/grey with light grey undersides... it would be a fair bet the Buffalo would look the same...

                        here's an artists rendition of one of the Buffalos from Midway... note the AC number in black paint... if your decals are white I wouldn't be put out by that... it's hard to find scale numbers for a smaller craft and in the right font...

                        I noticed a navy.mil pic of a Marine VMF-221 Martlet Wildcat on Midway after the battle and it had the black markings as well...

                        Jules if you are thinking of picking up a Buffalo to do then I would reccoment the Classic Airframes over the Tamiya offering any day. The detail and fit on the Tam Buffalo are a little on the average side.

                        Yeah i like the buffalo Darren, there's just something about them, But what scheme to paint it in, i like the Aussie version but i also like the Midway versions....

Believe it or not I might build a REAL Wildcat for the Battle of the Atlantic GB... It will hurt but maybe it will get this martlet monkey off my back!!!

                        Sounds like a plan Tom. I know that Rollmodels carries a Techmod decal set for the Atlantic Wildcat. Thought about doing that one myself for the Carrier GB. Already made up my mind to do the Accurate Min. Avenger (or maybe a Tarpon?Wink [;)]) for the Atlantic GB-and trying to decide if I want to go the full PE route. Hate to spend more $$$$ on PE than on the kit itself....but it looooks sooooo good.

                        I might have to do a Martlet for the Carrier build......or the next North Africa GB......Big Smile [:D]

                        Bob - if you get in the mood for a spifire there is a set of decals out there for "Defenders of Malta" that has a solid dark blue Spitfire in it... they were carried over on the USS Wasp to resupply the embattled Brits there, on the voyage the US Sailors painted over the brown and green camo with deck blue to help hinder in air German reconnasaince from clearly recognizing them as it would be a cinch to figure their destination...

                        that would definitely be fringe... I have the set and if I never get the urge to build that Spit on my shelf you are welcome to them!

                        I know how you feel Bob... something I have taken up is having a "non-GB build" handy... when I get down and feeling pressed for time there it is!!! Of course my last "for fun" build quickly turned into a build for the Nightfighter GB once I found some cool pics and decals online... now I don't know what I want to start next...

                        Maybe get those Colombian decals for a Colombian AT-6 Texan in South American clothes.. "Just for fun"

                        haha well.. I'm already in that one.. it's the Latinamerican Air Forces group build. Wink [;)] I'm building a P-47 for the 201 squadron of the Mexican Expeditionary AF.. they flew with us in the Pacific.. They kind of have a similar story tot he Tuskegee airmen with both the discrimination AND later respect at their bravery and skills.

                        I should be able to build on my Zero soon... I'm coming to the end of the F3F I am doing and need a little simple build to get my mind back on modeling... it was a good build and not too tough but I did a lot of things for the first time on it so it was time consuming... (come to think of it I have been doing a lot of things for the first time on the last couple of builds)
