Yeah Pingy I think thats the last time i use Tamiya decals, Eagle strike and aeromaster are gonna be the norm from now on i think............
IYHO what Gunze colours do you reckon would be the best for a Wildcat from the Pearl harbour eraQuestion [?]

Tom, I had an Epiphany today at work, Why don't we(after all the Midway builds are done) rename this thread into something like the Pacific Model builders and keep it going, it will be kinda like the League of extraordinary modelers but we concentrate on Pacific builds, anything we build whether for another GB or not we talk about here......
I can come up with another Badge which can include a link to a photobucket album that shows all our pacific builds.....
I personally have about 2 years of pacific builds in the stash such as Raaf Spits and P-40's Hellcats and an Avenger the list just goes on........
What say you GentlemenQuestion [?]

Thanks for dragging that back again mvricci. Don't know what you meant by it, but I hope you liked my build.

Jules - Sounds like you're having fun mate. I too am a hater of Tamiya decals. They are usually way too thick and are impossible to hide the clear film under a flat coat. Looking forward to seeing your build.
BTW, thanks for those kind words on my SBD.Thumbs Up [tup]

Almost finished Just a couple more days.....
I'm a little dissapointed with the red spot decals on the wings but the rest of the build has been excellent, all i need to do now is flat clear add some pastel weathering, not much cause i kinda like the clean look on it and then add the undercarriage and a final coat of flat to finish..........
I don't know when i'll have some pics cause my camera is stuffed but i'll organise some pics with my sister and her 5 pix camera this week...........

Yeah Mvricci, Daniel did one hell of a job with that SBD ehThumbs Up [tup]

Tamiya DecalsEvil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Black Eye [B)]Angry [:(!]Disapprove [V]Dead [xx(]Sad [:(] I hate them, i should have known better than to use them, for the life of me i can't get the buggers to settle into the panel lines, honestly they are like vinyl, I hit them with solvent until they started to go funny and i've cut them with the knife down the panel lines but they still look a little crappy and its too late to change them cause the future is on, The wash just doesn't want to stay in the lines, Hmmm maybe i'll start painting national markings on in future, eduard do masks for Japanese and US markings.....

It took me all day, but I finally got around to posting some pics. Paint is mostly Gunze, the top-side colour is a custom mix (or home brew if you like Wink [;)]). I built the thing pretty much out of the box except the engine wiring and the little PE gun sight on top of the MG. The decals were the ones that came with the kit, I just deleted the red dots and rudder stripes. I figured there had to be a S-12 that fought at midway (either from VS-5, VS-6 or VS-3). Most of the weathering was done with pastels, the salt effect didn't really turn out too visible. The only place it can still be seen is on the upper flaps and elevators. Enough talking, here's the pics:

Hope you like it. I'll have to build another one of these kits one day, they are very nice.
I'm gonna enter it in a comp tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Might pick up a cheap kit or two as well.

Chris-congrats on the contest win! Look forward to seeing you over in the Battle for Germany GB. I would like to do a piece of armor for that one also. Will need to do some research/get some help on which of the Tiger/Panther kits will fit the 1945 time constraint OOB. Of course, theres always the Tamiya Marder III.

Bob - that would be nice, a BBQ with the gang.. I imagine it would be a hoot! We couldn't have them too often lest the neighbors complained!

My condolences also. It is because of the sacrifices of that generation of men & women that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

My condolences to you and your faily Chris... I felt the same way when my uncle died... at least you got to talk to him about it. I never got to talk much with my Uncle about what he did in the Navy, and when I got interested I was halfway around the world in the Navy myself... There's so much I would have asked him.

I know everything will be fine.. he is up there with all the other veterans swapping war stories as we type!

Well today is a sad day for me my great uncle Clifford Burke USN Retired died yesterday he was the man that got me interested in the Buffalo and other WWII navy aircraft as he had flown most of the navy fighters in the pacific. he was a great man and one of my heroes,he tought me so much through the stories of his career in the navy on through working for NASA as a technician on the Apollo project i will miss him so.

Same here... I have 3 in progress at the moment and found that is a good number.. when I get to the point of feeling working on one is monotonous or tedious I just put it to the side and go to the other one...

I am doing the Tamiya P-51 right now and finding it about as enoyable as the Wildcat... it could use more detail on the interior but that is something easily fixed with PE... maybe the next one. It's a combo Tuskegee airmen GB and a gift for one of my co-workers' sons.. HE recently learned who they were and has been reading about them and such.. I thought I could provide some visual reference for him as well as farm another kit out (I don't build them unless I know I can give them out somewhere... running out of room for them here)

Bob I've have the Wildcat on the go at the moment and i agree It's a fantastic kit, I have had to be a little more cautious not to obliterate all the raised rivets when cleaning up the seamsThumbs Up [tup]

Bob - I forgot to include this... I agree 100% on the Martle... umm.. Wildcat kit.. it really is an enjoyable build. I keep one around for when I get frustrated on something a little more complex... the build is so straightforward ion that one it gets me back interested in building again!

I may have to ante up so one day we can close this build! Wink [;)]

Tom-Have you ever considered building a Wildcat? From what I understand, they are very similar to a Martlett....Wink [;)] Just kidding.....

This has been a very enjoyable build....wouldn't mind seeing it hang around for a while longer-never know what will pop-up at the next Hobby Lobby sale run.

btw-the landing gear is on the Wildcat-made the mistake of doing it late in the day. My eyes aren't what they used to be! However, I will have to pick up a couple more for future builds-good detail, easy build (no surprises). Hope to finish it up this weekend...or next!
