I thought the Mirror/mirror GB was a good idea too. I think there are just too many GB's on this forum now. I don't know about other people, but alot of the time I just look through the pages for the builds I'm interested in and don't even notice the rest. Makes it difficult for new builds to get going, but it doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Just keep bumping the build back up every now and then, and you might get a few more in.

Tom I thought this build was dead a while ago, but it just keeps coming back. Good thing too, I like the subject matter of this GB, and the company makes it even more enjoyable. By the time we're finished, I plan to have built every aircraft flown by the US for this GB. Wink [;)]

Panzer - actually yours was original, I really thought of what would the Wildcat look like in IJN green with a blueblack cowl when I saw your GB, the Thunderbolt would be even better... it would remind me somewhat of a Frank or something I think...... I wouldn't give up... it took me about a month to get more than just the usual slobs suspects into this one.. I think all of us are getting into the hard parts of several GB's right now and don't have the energy to post much anywhere else...

That said, a build like this is unusual, most people want a firm end date for the build but this one seems to be flowing along and still attracting the occasional new person. I imagine at some point it will end... I just hate to because it seems like most of us here take a n inkling to the type of aircraft we are doing here.

i like this gb the japanese aircraft and the A-10 build im in but i guess my mirror / mirror idea didn't go over well i only have 2 positive joins an 2 possibles so i guess it's one of the ones that should go to the wayside Sad [:(] I like the what if format but i guess it's not all that popular . on a higher note my buffalo is all buttoned up and it didn't take much cleanup on the seams i'll be going to paint soon once i have what i need masked ready

I agree on the too many GB's thing lads. There are too many people out there just trying to start GB's for the sake of it. I reckon alot of them buy a kit and think "I'll start a GB for my kit". I like the builds like this one that centre around a particular battle or aircraft type. But the WW2 aircraft GB and WW2 armor GB are just silly IMO. Half of the GB ideas that are put up here don't even get any people in, they just push the "good" builds onto lower pages. My 2 cents [2c]

I'm just about finished my King Tiger (just have to find that part that I lost so I can finish it), so I might make a start on the Devastator soon. I've done a fair bit of the re-scribing on the right fuselage.

Wot... This GB continuing on into 2006? Must have missed something? Confused [%-)]

I'll have to see if I can sneak another build in here somewhere but with the Canadian GB and three lined up for the Battle for Germany it'l be tough.

So... your batteries charged up yet Jules?

Amen Tom, I'll be sticking with the "Usual Suspects" as well, I think the Battle of Germany GB and the Battle of the Atlantic GB as well as Grumman cats Gb and Midway will be it for me in 2006, the other Gb's seem a little Vague or just plain silly like The GB badge GB where you glue 2 pieces of plastic together and get a badge, to me that seems to defeat the purpose of actually being in a Gb because your not sharing a build with fellow members which IMHO is the reason for participating in a group build......I wonder what "Kremps" would think..........Anyway just myMy 2 cents [2c]
BTW seein as how Midway will be going on through 2006 and considering Pingy is starting another build i think i'll finish the AM Avenger for this build as well as the ZeroThumbs Up [tup]

oh... and I agree on the amount of new GB's lately...... "WWII anything group build" or "Build an old aircraft GB" is kinda vague to me... I am about to drop a couple I got into as I am learning that building on my own is fun too.. I might just stick to building with the usual suspects...

Jules --- how long can you go on using the same tired excuse??? the batteries are charging???? Wink [;)] just kidding, I got caught in the same problem not too long ago...

I agree on the engines not being seen, but for me I continue to try to get the most out of them because like the cockpit, *I* know what they look like on the inside... Nevermind the exteriors of mine are only slowly getting better, the parts you can't see look fabulous!! Wink [;)]

I think I am going to scratch the Zero I started for this build and do another one... as this seems to be an endless GB we have plenty of time.. I might get the Hasegawa or the Tamiya 1/32 one for the next one... I saw one on sale in squadrons monthly sale paper today...

Oh well Tom we all do these things from time to time, i guess it's just a part of the hobby ehThumbs Up [tup]

Progress.................
Well i spent a good 3 hours on the Zero last night, drilled out the holes in the seat and painted the interior colour, after that i painted and assembled the engine which came out real nice, then i test fitted it into the engine cowl and realised that after the prop is on i'm not going to see much of it at all........
Oh BTW i also painted and assembled the Wildcats engine at the same time seein as how i used pretty much the same colours, the Wildcat engine was a little more challenging but it came out just as nice and is just as hidden when in the cowl with the prop onThumbs Up [tup]

Here's a good zero walkaround if anyone wants it. There's no pics of the seat, but there's good photos of the rest of the cockpit.

BTW, I'm getting close to finishing another build, so I could be starting my Devastator soon.

I had trouble finding a good ref on that too Jules... actually it was a dive company in New Guinea or somewhere like that, that had promotional pics for diving wrecks on their site, that I finally saw the entire seat!!

Yeah, those holes should be drilled out mate. The seats were perforated to make them lighter. Don't know how much weight it would have saved though......

Thanks Bob the kit decals i have appaer to be a little thick on the paper but i'm pretty sure i can soften them into submissionThumbs Up [tup]

Here's a Question [?] about Zero's, or more to the point the seat, Was it perforated along the back rest cause the Hasegawa seat shows holes but i don't know whether or not to drill them out.........

Tamiya decals have always been a problem. Great kits, crap decals. And when they decide to get their decals printed by someone else (superscale for the beaufighter kit), they end up with in-accurate decals. The red RAF roundels were almost maroon .....Can't win.

Wow Bob! I guess when I commented on the Wildcat decals it was purely from line of sight... as you know mine have all been aftermarket Martlet decals but on the sheet they don't appear thick at all. The Zero I was doing for this build came with some decals rivaling vinyl sign lettering... seriously!

I stripped them off and used some decals I had laying around for a Pearl Harbor Zero...

Bob Your Wildcat looks greatThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]So how bad are those decalsQuestion [?] i'm planning to use the Tamiya decals for my Pearl harbour Wildcat which i started today...

Thanks and welcome back.

The Tamiya decals were difficult to position (for me). Some type of solvent or additive may have helped. Getting them to 'melt' was handled by the Solvaset, used very freely. Still ended up with a bubble or two on the side decals. The Tamiya decals were much thicker than any other that I have encountered before (Monogram & Accurate Min.)

Yeah Daniel i know what you mean, i have 3 kits that i should finish first all of them in the painting stage but after a 2 month break i feel like starting a fresh kit just to get my modeling "MOJO" back again, I'll give SMM a call tomorrow and see whats happening with my AM bits for this Zero if there's some sort of hold up i may have to mask the canopy with BMF just to get moving on it..............
