Just a couple of progress pics...not sure of the quality and clarity.

1/48 Revell-o-Gram P40B. This is my first attempt at making my own seat belts. The seat was modified using thin stainless steel wire to better represent the real aircraft. I was going to box in the pit but I have lost my contour guage...no way I would be trying to freehand that bit of work.

As always, critique is welcome...

Mark, you're right about the instrument panel on the AMtech. Decent amount of detail but it's not really raised all that much. I used Prismacolor pencils to highlight the gauges and switches, then shot a flat coat over it. I have much better luck with that technique than trying to dry brush everything.

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

Gary and Joe, your Tomahawks are coming on very nicely! Gary, I forgot what year Monogram came out with their kit, but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Arki, your cockpit looks great from what I can tell. AMtech's cockpit isn't bad OOB, but I've always had trouble painting the Instrument Panel. How did you do yours?

I primed my Eduard P-40N last Monday with Mr. Surfacer 1000. Unfortunately, I still had a pretty bad seam where the fuselage insert behind the cockpit goes. There're no lines there on the real plane, so I've spent what little time I've had this week after work and family fixing it.

arki What I can see of your cockpit looks nice mate. Thumbs Up [tup]

My build is coming along slowly still. I might get a coat of primer on it soon. Then I'll find all the bits that need more attention and I can start painting it.

wing_nut, yardbird78, paknick-40, kingthad, rjkplasticmod, thanks for the good comments. Camera's a 1.5 mp with no zoom....it just doesn't cut it for that close in work.

wing_nut, good suggestion with pulling back. If I still have this camera later, I'll try that and just accept the smaller detail. Cockpit is now fully assembled and ready to install into fuselage, so it'll have to be a different project I try that on.

PakNick-40, you know for the life of me I can't quite remember where I got them from as I've had the PE for awhile. I think it was Squadron.com. Eduard sells single PE frets for USN and Army Air Force aircraft so you get about 4 or 5 seatbelts on one fret which is really nice.

Once again, thanks for the comments and I'll post more as the build progresses.

The pics aren't great, but the pit looks good Arki. Definitely time to upgrade the ol' digi cam.

Bluriness? I just put my glasses on backwards and it was fine...

Really, even with that it looks good. The IP looks like it came out nice. Try a higher resolution setting from a tiny bit further back. A smaller "subject" inthe shot but might be clearer when clicked on and expanded. Better to see sharp small detail than fuzzy big.

Ok, posting pics of the cockpit. This is the AMtech P-40E cockpit, totally OOB except for the Eduard seatbelts.

I completely apologize for the blurriness of the pics as my digital camera is an oldie and simply isn't up to the task of these close up pics. Time for an upgrade, I know.

As I have two other projects dead in the water waiting on AM, it's nice to just build something without fuss. Comments welcome.

The Osprey book on modeling the P-40 is a must have for anyone interested in building a few P-40's. I usually don't buy modeling how to books, but this one & a few others in the Osprey series is an exception.

I had a little trouble with the fuselage in that the cockpit didn't want to fit when I put the two halves together, a very small bit of sanding on the edges took car of that.
Oddly enough, I had some trouble getting the exhausts to stay in too.
I bought this kit about 2 years ago,and it has some flash on the smaller parts also.
How long has Monogram been using this tool?

Looks like I'm about ready for some primer and paint.
I have to say that this old Monogram tool still looks fairly decent to me,I guess it's been around a long time.
The wing fit to the fuselage was bit of pain, but I took my time and got it to fit.
I have been very busy with work and other stuff(summer time, you know), but I think I'll get this thing finished soon.

PakNick-40,

Your P-40b in RAF service would be painted in the US colour of Cockpit Green.
These are the FS numbers for the cammo:-
Used by the AVG the colours would be these;
Brown FS 30118
Green FS 34258
Grey FS 26440
Or if you require the Blue as the undersides ;
Blue FS 35414

Hope this helps.
