                        razordws what's wrong with the Hab's 3-0 sofar. My other fav are the Rangers (long story).

                        I survived the closing of the cottage (I had to go into the water to bring in the dock) and actualy got some time to to put on my build.

                        -Finished the cockpit
                        -drilled out the gun ports on the LE
                        -Installed the pe grill fot the oil cooler

                        I will post some pics this week. I hope your all having a great Thanksgiving.

                        Good work so far on the Arrow, Anthony14. Can't wait to see it come together.

                        Made some good progress this weekend. The work on the Hasegawa 1/72 CF-18 tail fins is complete and basic assembly of the fuselage and wings is complete. Not the best fitting kit around but with some knife work, alignment tabs and extra careful assembly, I was able to bring it together with only one minor gap.

                        I also started construction of the CT-133 from Hasegawa with basic assembly complete. Let me tell you, this kit is ancient! Overall fit is excellent but detail is really lacking, especially in the cockpit. I have some True Details seats but this thing needs a lot more than that. Good thing the cockpit colour is black.

                        bear nothing wrong with the Habs, just a typical westerner's knee jerk response. BTW what's up with Zednik? I've got him in my hockey pool, hope he isn't out too long.

                        Got back from Vancouver today and started cutting sprue on the Sunderland. I also started gluing some wing sections together. Boy this is going to be a lot more work than I thought There are lots of sink marks, the ailerons are thicker than the wings and the interior consists of two seats, two sticks and a flat piece of styrene that is supposed to pass as the instrument panel once you've cut out the picture from the instruction sheet and stuck it on. This will definitely stretch my skills to the limits.

                        I think that Sunderland kit was produced by Airfix at about the same time that the aircraft entered service with Coastal Command ! It is a fantastic looking thing when it's dne though, it'll be well worth the effort.
                        Absolutely no progress on my CT-33. I've had a deadline on the Western Desert GB and a bout of Gastro to hold me up.

                        BTW awesome score with the Lancaster kit.

                        I'm almost finished with the beaufighter, I got all the decals on and now have to put the lights on, weather it then add the canopies, missle racks and propelers. I would say maybe next week I'll be done...maybe.

                        As for me i've given the undersides a shot of blue, on the undersides of Spitfires i prefer to paint it once then wash it before misting a coat of colour over that to tone down the wash in the panel lines cause there is that many panel lines on the undersides of Spitfires a black wash just seems to stand out too much........

                        Thought I'd post a couple of pics as I did a test fit last night now that the wing are assembled.



                        close up of the sink holes, basically anywhere there is a locating pin there is a sinkhole.



                        workbench is feeling a little crowded these days as I'm also trying to finish up a B-17F. The suderland is 1 1/2" longer and wider than the B-17 but the fuselage cross section is like 4 times that of the B-17. Cool Cool [8D]

                        Dave I know that kneejerk reaction I'm starting to see it in my brother after 5Yrs in BC. As for Zednik I also have him in my pool and it does not look good I'd be surprised if he's back next week. I'll plrobably take him out of my roster on the weekend.

                        I like the look of the sunderland despite the typical Airfix Booboo's & lack of detail. However i'll finish my Halifax before I tackle that beast BTW what scale is the Lancaster that you got?

                        Jay I'm looking forward to seeing your finished Beaufighter.

                        Jay My research shows 2 colors for the underside of the MK1 Hurricanes LT Gray or Duck Egg would you know which one was predominent with No 1/401 Sqn??? or would they have had a mix as the aircraft would come from various areas. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

                        I used MM 'sky' which the LHS owner said was very close to duck egg. It has that greenish-tan-gray look to it and it looks a lot like what I've seen on others' models. Since it was my first model back after a while, I trusted him. You can check my pics a couple pages back.

                        Unfortunately I couldn't find any concrete resources on RAF 1 Sqdn. I know they were issued RAF machines upon arriving in the UK. So, I just went with the standard at the time for RAF squadrons which was supposed to be the duck egg or sky colour (remember no fuselage band, this was added in Nov/Dec 1940). I have also seen some aircraft having the half black and half white undersides like Lt Willie McKnight's ac (he flew with RAF 242). This was on a number of ac during the battle of France but was changed for the BoB, some obviously, were not changed (McKnight's).

                        well folks got a little more done on the f-18 its the first time in a few days i have been able to get to the bench for some modeling. work has gotten in the way of everything even no hunting latley, so heres whats been done 3/4 of the plane has decals all thats left to do is the right side of it .add the landing gear and doors, fuel tanks, canopy, ejection seat and missles if i can get some info one the type uesd and then flat coat it.and its done. so far this build of this f-18 kit has to be the best i have done yet i do belive i have figured out how to get a good fit with the hasegawa f-18Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

                        Jay Thanks for your input. I have a bottle of MM's Duck Egg so I'll give it a try.

                        I'm re-reading High Blue Battle by Dave McIntosh the war diary of No 1/401 Sqn to put me in the mood for the build. The book states that on June 25th/40 Dowding visited the Sqn at Middle Wallop and when he heard that the planes brought over were not of the latest type, the order went out to replace them. The new ones arrived on June 30th. The book is rather interesting however it does lack in detail at times and of course no referance is made to color schemes etc... that would help a modler.
