Thanks for the comments Rick, Dave, Jules and Bear. Now I know what the 'fix' in the name 'Airfix' is for!!Laugh [(-D] Even though I've had to do a lot to it, I've had fun. I'm not going to be a near as anal on my Boly.

I got a coat of future on this morning so Wednesday I'll get some decals on! Big Smile [:D]

Hey Superbear, If you're interested and have a kit you could use, you should start a Canadian aircraft and join us! The more the merrier!Tongue [:P]

Awesome, I got you down for one Hurricane Mk1, 401 Sqdn. Approve [^]
I asume it will be one from the spring of 1941? I know in March of that year they went from RACF 1 to 401 and then later that year they switched to Spitfires ( September '41 according to RCAF.com).Smile [:)]

BTW Marc (Superbear) isn't is 'Mors Celerrima Hostibus' not 'hostbus' I just happened to be looking on RCAF.com and noticed your favourite quote. I would have been clueless otherwise... sorry for being nit-picky. Ashamed [*^_^*]

Hi,
I've just started re-scribing a Hasegawa T-33. I'd be interested in joining this GB if I can find some decals for a camouflaged one. Does anyone know of any ?
Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I don't know about a camoflaged t-33 but I did find this nice looking black one

http://www.airshowphotography.com/T-33/c04ct133-133656-2.jpg

I did find a black and white phot of one:
http://www.grostenquin.org/photos/support/pgt-673.jpg

Check out www.rcaf.com
http://www.rcaf.com/aircraft/trainers/silverstar/index.php?name=CT-133%20Silver%20Star
I also did a google search for 'Canadian CT-133' and found a bunch of colour photos of the CT-133 in camo, most from the '60s.

For decals, check out leading edge decals, I know they have some T-33 sets but not sure about a camo version. http://www.lemdecal.com/

If you would like, I can add you to the front page. Thanks for the build out!

Jay no problem with being nit-pickyWink [;)] I appreciate you pointing out the error. I copyed the motto from the patch on my old flight suit. Just my luck I was issued a patch with a typo. We used to call the motto "More Celery and Horse Raddish"

The aircraft I'm doing is SN P3069 YO*A from summer 1940 so it would be from No 1(F) Sqn RCAF. As per Brian walker's site it was one of 10 A/C that participated in the SQN first engagement in the BoB. I'm so used to 401 I keep forgetting about the time it was No 1 Sqn.

Jules, I know what you mean. I have been in contact with a Canadian Ace here (Douglas Lindsey, 10.5 air to air victories). He flew in the summer of 1944 with RCAF 403 and I have aircraft codes and serial numebrs for a few AC he flew. I really want to do his Spitfire mk.9c - KH*K (sn ML411) which he flew on July 3 when he shot down 3 bf-109's to become and ace and raise his total to 7 victories. And it had the invasion stripes to boot! I made sure I asked him about the stripes (For some reason the they look the best on the Spitfire and Typhoon, I just can't put my finger on it as to why...) and he said they kept them on until the end of the war. I really want to do his Spitfire for the Allied aces build I mentioned. The cool thing (from a modeling perspective) is he also got two mig-15 kills in Korea while on loan to the USAF in Sabres! I also want to do his Sabre too!

Speaking of Invasion stripes, I put on the kit invasion stripe decals for my beaufighter, while they look really good from a distance, I must say they were a real bCensored [censored]h to put on. They ripped, pulled, broke, stuck, wrinkled, almost every problem you could think of, they did. That was for the fuselage decal which I should have cut into two but was afraid of the overlap on the spine. I did cut the wing ones and they went on okay except for the starbord wing. As soon as I put it on a chunk of the white stuck and would not move, I ripped it as I was trying to get it into place. The good thing is all the other decals seem to be going on okay and snuggling down with mico sol and set. Once the decals dried, the stripes looked nice and tight in the areas where it didn't wrinkle. I can fix it though, so no worries. It sure makes the plane look sharp though.

Marc, that is funny you are doing YO*A from the summer of 1940. Just this last May I completed my first build in about 10 years and It was for the BOB GB. I did the Hasegawa Hurricane mk.1 in markings from RCAF 1 sqdn. I did it as YO*J (sn v6746) which I got from an armourers list of aircraft that was worked on in Sept of 1940. I should post pics of it.

Jay I would love to see pics of your hurricane, funnily enough this is my first build start to finish in 20 years. Last month i finished up a 1/72 Hurri-bomber MKII (402 Sqn) that I had started in the early 80's. I started back at my wife insistance she said I needed stress relief can't argue with that.

Makes ya feel old doesn't itApprove [^]

Any way i've managed to figure out the camo colours on this Spit II....
It appears to have worn the Green/Brown over duck egg green during the BoB but was changed after that into Ocean grey Dark Earth over Duck egg blue but it still carries the duck egg green fueselage band and spinner, i couldn't find the appropriate colours in Gunze at my LHS so for the first time in many years i'll be useing Humbrol enamels thinned with x20a, from memory the Humbrol paints go on quite well but i will have to lighten the Ocean grey a little.............

Hi Jay,
Thanks for the wealth of information. I've chosen this one..the so called Silver Shark scheme.

Yes, please add me to the front page.
With 4 GBs and our third child all due on 31 Dec, I'd better get cracking.
Gee, there are some really good schemes for Canadian aircraft, I had no idea.
Cheers

Good to hear you've got things figured out Jules. Thumbs Up [tup]

Tony, thats great! You know, after seeing that all black T-33 (the one sitting on the tarmac at Comox), I've got an itch to build one. I don't normally build jets but I could make an exception as I really like that black one... I just have so many others I want to build! We'll see.

I've gotten hung up a little bit as the decals I printed off for the squadron codes turned out to be too big and I had to print off a new set in a slightly smaller font. I have to wait three days for the ink to dry then for another two days to make sure the decal sealer is totally dry before I can put them on so I'm thinking maybe by next weekend I'll be done? (fingers crossed) I still have a few little fiddly bits to do but they won't take much time at all, like the landing and nav lights, rockets and canopy. Close, very close..Tongue [:P]

Hey Dave, any word on the Lancaster kit? Looking forward to any build you do.
Superbear, what is an MEL controler is it a factor in your stress? Welcome back to the hobby!

I'm torn Jay, I really want to do the Lanc but I also want to do it with all the goodies which is a problem financially at the moment because of the move but also because there just isn't much available yet for the Hasegawa kit. I also would like to see what other versions/decal options Hase intends to release down the road. I rushed into buying the He 111 H-6 for the Battle of Britain GB only to learn that Hase intended to release the H-2/3 and P versions which were more appropriate. Plus I want to take my time and do it right and I have a bunch of stuff lined up for for BofG GB and the Atlantic GB starting early next year.

So... having made my best excuses Disapprove [V]... I saw something in the LHS last weekend that really caught my eye Black Eye [B)]Tongue [:P] that has to do with some of the reading I've been doing lately (shameless teasingEvil [}:)]) and today was payday so... If its still there and nothing else catches my eye first... I'll let you know tomorrow. Big Smile [:D]

I'm holding my breath so hurry up!
Let me venture a guess, you have a hankerin' to do a Mustang I in RCAF 400, or 414 colours.
Wait I know! - one of the CBI t-bolts! now that would be cool. I've only seen one build of one of them and I think they look really cool in that camo scheme.

Jay Thanks its nice to get back into the hobby, now I have to relearn how to keep my eye loop in place and not drop it on my build.

I'm an aircraft Minimum Equipment List (MEL) controler. The MEL is the document that is generated by the aircraft manufaturer that specifys what systems my be inop and the Mtce & Ops procedures that have to be done to dispatch with said system unserviceable. Based on the config an airlines choses for it aircraft an MEL is built to reflect those choices it also includes the various restriction from Transport Canada. I'm responsible for the A319/320/321 & A330 MEL's. Sorry Ashamed [*^_^*] for the long winded explanation, yes it causes me stress at times however it's great fun for you realy get to know an aircraft doing this job from the operational and technical side.

Cheers

Anthony Crap that looks like a lot of work but it looks great and I'm sure all the effort will be worth it.

Okay, just got back from the hobby shop and sorry to say Jay that you are not even close on your guess'.

So without further ado you may change my build on page one from a Lancaster to one of these Big Smile [:D]

It is the airfix 1/72 kit and is one big (as in huge and ugly) looking beast in the box but I love it! Big Smile [:D] markings are for 2*G DD867 of 422 squadron.

Edit: I'll have to scratch the antenae as neither the new or the old versions are included.

Oops! sorry It's a Short Sunderland III used by the RAF (and RCAF) to patrol for Uboats and for rescue operations during wwII. To give a sense of scale its quite a bit larger than the B-17 that is currently on my desk.

Anthony nice work on your build.

Dave At first glance how does your kit look. I recently picked up the Airfix Halifax and did some test fits of the fuselage.I found some nasty gaps when you place the winshield to the fuselage anong others. I'm considering the sunderland for a future project and was wondering at the quality of the kit.

Bear it looks pretty decent for an airfix kit though it lacks any interior detail as typical for its age. I've only test fitted the main wings so far and it will require some fiddling as usual. I found a really good review on a build up over at Hyperscale using the White Ensign detail sets.

http://hsfeatures.com/features04/sunderlandbt_1.htm

The WE set is very impressive but costs more than the kit and you won't see much of it once its closed up so I'm going to pass and try my hand at scratching some of the interior for the cockpit and the antenae.

Ooo dave, you gonna have quite the build on your hands, as flying boats go, the Sunderland is a nice looking ship/boat/plane. It's gonna be freakin' huge man!Shock [:O] awesome score!

Anthony, looking good, can't waint to see some paint on that sucker!

Well, I had a good morning here, lots of progress on my Pearl Harbour Zero and I though I'd get some pics for this one too up too. Here is the current state of my Beaufighter, you can see the ugly patch of white paint near the starboard nacelle where the decal ripped. I applied another coat of future and am waiting for it to cure before I put on the new set of squadron codes.

And just for you Marc, my BoB hurricane from RCAF 1 sqdn.Tongue [:P]
