Hi guys,
thanks for the links and info. I did a few price comparisons and the kits certainly seem cheaper in Canada than they are here in England. Although I am living in the south of England where nothing is cheap. Although saying that I did pick up a couple of bargains lately. I guess the LHS had overstocked...Revell 1/32 F4-F from £35 to £15 and a Revell 1/72 B-36 from £50 down to £20. ($2.20CAN = £1) I'm a sucker for bargains.

I think I will start my CF-104 slightly before the Sep 1st start date as I am between projects and don't have enough time to do anything else before the start date.

Paul, I think I can make an exception for you, seeing as you are soon to be a Canadian. Keep us posted with progress pics. I know I'm going to be late out of the gate for this one as I haven't done anything for two weeks! My Beaufighter still doesn't have it's engines on and I haven't got to scratching the new wheel bays. And my Pearl Harbour Zero was stalled for a bit while I was getting seat pics but that one is slowed right down too.

I think I'll try to keep my Bolingbroke as OOB as possible (yeah right as if that'll happen) except the nose and cockpit. I'm also going to try something new for me - re-scribing! The rivets on the Airfix kit are way to big, the Beaufighter's I can live with, not the Bolingbroke's.

(edit) Matt, I work only a few minutes from Uncle Bills, bad, really bad! When ever I drive my car to work which is rarely as I cycle most days, I inevitably find my self driving over to talk to him and see the new cool stuff, and I usually end up buying some paint or other little things I need. Like I said, bad, very bad....

Tom, only a 7 days till it starts, you gotta get one soon! I don't think Canada or any Canadians used the martlet but we did have some pilots in the FAA. I know of your love of Naval AC so here's some you may be interested in.
We had 2 aces in the Pacific, one, Bill Atkinson From Vancouver got 5 in Hellcats? You can read about him here:

The other, Don Sheppard flew corsairs, also with the FAA (5 kills).

Another one you may be interested in is Hammy Gray (FAA Corsair pilot), One of the last pilots killed during WW2 and a recipiant of the VC. There is lots of info about him on the net. There is even a decal set for the Corsair he flew in his last mission (can't remember who makes it).

Finally some head way on my Beaufighter. I finally got the second engine plumbed and almost ready to install. I have to paint it. Ths time I'll paint it BEFORE I glue it into the nacelle! Dunce [D)]

doh! The first one I put in then added a couple drops of superglue then about 5 mins later I realized, I should have painted it first! Banged Head [banghead]

. Soon it will be ready for the paint shop.

Only 7 more day guys!

Yes I have read several reviews now on the new Lancaster and while they all have their reservations about this or that it sounds like its a winner. Like I said though it will be a couple of months before I can order it and get started. Might have to see if I can dig up something less demanding for this build in the meantime.

I went through my pics last night and I have:
30+ pics of a Lancaster, 35+pics of a Bolingbroke/Blenheim, 15 pics of a Harvard, 15 pics of an Anson (mk2 I think), 10+ of a Sopwith Triplane, several pics of a Barkley Grow, Several pics of a Hurricane mk.XII under restoration and several pics of a real authentic doodlebug.

I'll be posting them somewhere soon. I'll keep you posted.

Rick, it is pretty easy. I used the basic template, here is Dave's Lanc

First I opened it in Paint. I then openned paint again with the pic I wanted to use (Boly for mine, Fury for yours) I selected the actualy image I wanted to shrink then used the Image file drop down with the stretch/skew command and shrunk it down to the size I needed to fit into the space in the GB badge. Then cut and pasted it into the badge and saved the GB badge. Hope it works for you!

I'll give you guys a little rundown on my Spit rebuild...........

I originally built it for the first Old Guns Gb in BoB colours but since then my little angel kids Angel [angel]

got a hold of it and practically destroyed it, Kids eh Evil [}:)]

They bent the wings until the seam gave, ripped the udercarriage off, snapped the prop blades off, pulled the canopy off and destrroyed the antenna and rigging......
So what i'll have to do is strip it back to plastic fix the seams and repair all the broken peices before giving it a new paint job, Darren sent me a spare pilots door that he had so i'mm gonna scribe out the door and make it an open canopy.........

BTW if Jay is cool with this i will probably need a hand finding a Canadian subject to model............. Thumbs Up [tup]

I'll do some research for a mk1 spit in Canadian markings.

Rick I was going to do the same as Dave but he did MUCH better than I would have been able to do. I like the one on the left.

Jules, did some quick research here at lunch. The only RCAF squadron to use spitfire mk 1s was RCAF 403, They only had them from May to July 1941. Their code was KH*?. I think they still had the green and dark earth camo, I guess the mk2s they re-equiped with had the geren/gray camo. There was probably a fuselage band (sky colour?) as I think that was standard from the end of the BoB. I can't find anything on serials though.

I did find numerous websites with RCAF 403 hsitories. I also found this interesting link http://www.junobeach.org/e/4/can-tac-air-fig-dick-e.htm

I have a book on the history of the RCAF, I'll look in it when I get home tonight.

Jules I was looking through some books at the library on my lunch break (1 block away Big Smile [:D]

) and saw some notes on a group of Canadians that went over and joined 609 squadron before 403 squadron was formed. There was one pic of a Mk.I of 609 squadron. I'll pick the book up on my way home and scan it for ya.

Jay Thanks for the pics, finally had a chance to look at them. Let me know if you plan to remove them so that I can download what I need. Also, Jules has given me an idea, I think I'll start rebuilding my CF-18 until I get my hands on a Lanc kit. It was my pride and joy at one time (my first experience with PE almost 20 years ago) but many moves and years later it has been much damaged and I might even repaint it if I can find a good decal set.

Thanks for the links Jay I think i've found my subject on sheet 48001 A/C no PZ856 a Spit MKIIa in Ocean Grey and Green, I have my Spitfire books out looking for differences between the MK I and II............
How do i order that sheet Question [?]

by the looks of it i have to print an order sheet and mail it off, i might give Water mark a call and see if i can order the sheet over the phone.........

BTW i like the badge with the Lanc in it, is it cool if i stick that in my sig..........
OH yeah i've already made some Progress not much just scribed out the pilots door but hey it is progress, i may take a pic of the model before i do anymore so you guys can see what i'm starting with Thumbs Up [tup]

OK i think i'm in the clear to build my MKI as a MKIIa, the only major difference was the MKII carried the Merlin XII which improved performance by about 110 HP.............
Looking at the profiles i can't see any differances in panel lines between the MKI and MKII............
BTW are you guys cool with a little artistic licence Question [?]

all i want to do is to add the small Maple leaf decal under the forward section of the canopy, I'm building a Canadian subject so i at least want it to look Canadian instead of British, I have the same Problem with RAAF A/C, i mainly stick with the Pacific RAAF subjects because they Look Australian where as the European RAAF units look British.............

Jules You can certainly use the badge with the Lancaster in it . I know what you mean about the Commonwealth European markings. They were all just lumped in with the RAF and not much to distinguish them with.

Well i found a set of Aeromaster decals with PZ856 on it so i've already gone and ordered it, they should be here in a couple of weeks so now i'm happy Big Smile [:D]
