Sean I'd always heard that the Abrams had a heat signature that rivalled the sun. In your neck of the woods it should surpass even that heat source. Better make sure those Kiwis don't try and mount an invasion!

The beer chiller is a given, and they won't need the barbie cause as soon as they try and run those things in Central Oz they'll overheat and cook themselves Black Eye [B)]

In hindsight, the Aussie Gov buying those tanks was a BAD idea IMHO.
It doesn't exactly rain diesel in this country, but I guess they didn't think of that........................which really doesn't surprise either.

Progress Update

Finally started applying top coats to the MS406., but not before pre-shading the underside, the top colours I'll post shade. I now have a 406 with RLM65 undersides, and a gloss white fin, and no, this wasn't another cock up on my part thinking it was primer, the fin is meant to be white.

There are a lot of little areas on this aircraft that I am far from happy with, as you'll see when I post some pictures tomorrow.

As for my 129, going to have to custom mix the paint I think.
Can't really find the RLM 79 in th shades I need.

Good news guys!!!!

I just had a long chat on the phone with Jules and he is alive and well but still suffering from severe computer problems. To add to his problems some Censored [censored]

head stole the bike that he uses for his work forcing him to buy a replacement and in the process soaking up a load of his spare cash.

He said to say a big hi to all the usual suspects and was desperate to know what Kremps has been up to.

He hopes to get to a working computer on Sunday night and read through some of the 300 odd new posts in this build and then add some new ones of his own.

Ours isn't small by any means, but I can't figure out where all the competition is Confused [%-)]

Our largest newsagent gets Tamiya (can I type that here Evil [}:)]

) and Finescale magazine, and a few other modeling mags in every month.
They all sell inside the first week, and if your not on the ball you miss out.

But for some stupid reason there is very little competition.

Thanks John, I am also thinking of leaving off the future so it sticks to the paint well.. (just on that one spot, maybe liquid masking like you said) I have a Canadian Quad Tractor with 25 pounder I want to build one day soon and your scheme would go nicely with it...

Tom, iyou want the burnt sienna to stick, apply it as you would a wash, then, just leave off the q-tip part and seal it with a flat coat.

hmmm.. you've given me a diabolical plan in the making John... I want to try the salt technique with paint, then the in same rough area with future over salt... I WANT the burnt sienna to stick to the paint like on those fenders... would be a nice contrast and *maybe* make some realistic weathering...

wow, thanks guys!
the wear was done by first painting the vehicle panzer grey (as they arrived in africa) then I used the salt technique (thank you swanny!) and for the larger stuff I used rubber cement. Painted Dark yellow, and removed the salt and rubber cement. While removeing the salt with a toothpick I scratched the surface of the yellow paint. It looked like a perfect scratch, so i made some more, and eventually got WAY over carried and had a scratch everywhere on the vehicle ohwell, live and learn.
The rust was just a (i think) burnt sienna wash that wasnt completely removed.
