Me Three!! Big Smile [:D]

Outstanding work and I really like the area around the fenders where the paint scraped off and it shows rust, you did the same thing around the gun mount...

AWESOME!!! and congrats on the award, you deserve it!

Alll I can say is WOW!!!! Shock [:O] Nice build John and congrats on the award as well. The weathering on the paint is superb. I would love to know what technique you used to get that nice scratched up paint look.

well, a few weeks short of when I said I'd have them, but here they are. Italeri 1/35 demag sdkfz 10/4 w/ flak 30. Deffinetly not a fun kit to build, to say the least.
The only things I added were the air recognition flag, rolled up tarps and camo netting, and tamiya jerrycans.

Tom This is one build I want to see the back of! The earlier colour scheme is a straight Armee de'l Air, and arguably much prettier than the scheme I was going to go with.

It doesn't help I've now got the Hasa 109G10 sitting their waiting to be built!

Dave Great work on the P51, especially in 1/72.

I know what you mean abour Academy decals, I did their Komet a couple of years back, and they were like leather. This was before I had discovered the wonder of Gunze decal setting solution!

I can thoroughly recommend gloss white as a primer Wink [;)]

I'll probably end up going with a slightly simpler camo scheme for this build, same aircraft just a few weeks earlier, as I'm conscious that the clock is running on this GB. It'll now look more like my sig pic.

Thanks all!

Darren, that's nothing. I've done a HE 111 in 1/72 and my next project is an old Hasegawa B17 in 1/72. Not looking forward to masking that one.

Rick, I did use the kit decals and I must say that they were actually pretty decent... except... the wing bands were too short for the wings so some touch ups with paint were needed and I think the fuselage roundels are overscale after looking at some reference photos. This is one of Academy's newer releases and I'm hoping that the quality of the decals for these otherwise great kits is on the rise.

Dave, very nice work on the Stang. Did you use the kit decals ? They look too good to be Academy decals.

Karl what the heck gloss white, primer it's all paint and sorry but by the way that made me laugh out loud.

I agree with the Squadron In Action books great exterior shot but naff all on the interior, for that the force you to get the Walk Around edition.

Dave great job on the P-51 it looks excellent Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]. How did you manage to mask that canopy in 1/72 without going nuts.

Cheers
Darren

Hey guys, finally finished assembling my p51 and took a few pics before I do the weathering. It has been a real struggle to get this finished with the move and everything. I still haven't got a place set up that I can call my own for my models so I have been using my sons desk and packing up inbetween which is a real pain. I tried hand painting that spinner 5 times with Tamiya flat red before I finally gave in and dug out the airbrush and cleared a spot in the garage to paint it. Anyway, enough muttering, here are a couple of pics of my Academy 1/72 P51.

Edit: Sorry the pics are a little fuzzy, my tripod is around here somewhere. I will find it before taking the final pics.

Progress Update

I had a mad glueing session the other night attaching as much as possible to the airframe, in an attempt to convince myself that this build is still viable!!!!

This afternoon saw a coat of primer applied to the entire aircraft.....

......it also got a coat of gloss white by mistake! It looked like primerShock [:O]!!!!!

I let everything sit for a few hours before gently sanding the whole aircraft with a 3800 grit sanding pad, which took the shine of the gloss, and has left me with a good base for the camo.

This certainly won't be one of my better builds, but I'm determined to finnish it.

The MS406 should be going into the paintshop later for a coat of primer, so I'll try and post some pics.

Amen to that Karl. Looking forward to the pics.

Tom Like Rick, I don't find that net always provides what I need in terms of reference material, and if it does, it often requires hours of searching. I am therefore more inclined to spend the extra £10-15 and pick up a refernce book before starting a build.

Having said that I picked up Squadron's French Fighter's in Action for the MS406, and while the general exterior shots are good, interior and detail shots are virtually non-existent. So far I've found the Eastern European ref books, such as the He162 one by MBI, and this latest Mushroom one to be about the best on the market, and well priced too.

The internet is a fabulous resource for research, but I still prefer books that I can keep on my bench as reference when I build a model I'm serious about getting as close to right as possible.

Tom Fear not, the force is strong within this one!

Though the Ms406 is doing everything in it's power to weaken it!

This is a truky awful kit, but I will finish it.

Rick I saw the Mushroom book on the Machi M2002 a while back and was extremely impressed with that.

All of the Mushroom books are great references. Many of the pics are of restored aircraft, but a good restoration is better than nothing. I have most of them in my library & try to keep up with the new ones. They just issued one on the P-47 which is one of the best in the series.

Tweety - that pic does look like 80 with 79 on top... might be kind of hard to cover like that though... it will be interesting to see your solution! (as you always seem to come up with one)

Sean & Rick I had a good look at the 109 when I got home last night, and it looks like a great kit. The cockpit is a little sparse, as are the wheel bays, but I've ordered the Eduard PE set which will take care of all that, as well as a set of Eagle Cal decals for white 44 in all over RLM76. It would actualkly be an ideal candidate for the BfG GB, but I don't think I can wait that long before starting it!

I also picked up the Mushroom Publications 109G book.....WOWApprove [^]. This has to be about the best modelling reference I've seen, especially at that price, £10 or $14. It has detail shots of every variant, along with scale drawings, period photos and colour plates of about 25 different 109Gs. Well worth the money.
