Planes of the Red Star Group Build (June 21, 2005- February 10, 2006)
Posted by Tankmaster7 on Monday, April 11, 2005 7:43 PM

Rules: Any planes, from the Mig-1 to modern Antonovs, that flew or still fly in the Russian or Soviet Airforce. The Only requirement is that it have big red stars plastered on the fins.

Other group builds may NOT be combined with this one.

AM PE are all OK. So is OOB.

And of course have fun, and try to keep up with Duke Maddog if hes signs up for this build.[

Tanky,

I have a BI-1 coming in the mail (I hope), so put me down as a possible. It's a prototype Soviet Rocket interceptor. Small kit, so... we'll see.

What kind of time frame do you have in mind? I'd love to jump onboard with this one but have 4 other GBs going on at the moment (although I'm almost done with one of them). If this can be a longer time frame or open ended build then count me in! I'll build a Italeri Su-34 Attack Flanker 1/72 scale for now!

Sorry about the lack of brand name on the kit!! Still am wondering if the thing will ever arrive, its been the better part of a month since it was supposedly shipped!

I had to drop out of the Mosquito Group build because I could not find the kit...this is a different story...I am in, either a Great Patriotic War Yak or an early Cold War MiG...

Excellent. Time frame VERY large. Won't start for a couple of months yet I should think. I myself am doing a revell 1/72 Su-27 Flanker. Sexy plane that.

I'd be in if it were fall 2005. Need to see what I have in the stash, which is packed up at the moment for a move...

Yeah, But Darwin also can crank out some kits!Big Smile [:D] Put me down for a serious maybe. I just got ahold of a Tu-22M with a Russian airfield set (the 1/72 ESCI kit). Should look neat next to my Su T-4 when I get that built!Tongue [:P]

Hmmm i've already sussed out my Gavia LA-5, not much to it considering the price but the detail is as good as Tamiya or Hasegawa put into thier kits....One thing i'm happy with is the express masks that came with the kit, should save a little masking timeThumbs Up [tup]

Six months? Well, then put me down as 99% probable. (My kind of time frame!)

Those times look great to me. It shouldn't take my long to get the BI-1 finished.

Just in case nobody has any idea what a BI-1 is, here's a pic (I like pictures of what I'm doing)

[image]http://xplanes.free.fr/florov/bi/bereznyak-isaev-bi1_04.jpg[/image]

It's pretty much the same story as the Luftwaffe's Me 163 Komet- a short-range point defense rocket interceptor. It was plauged by both endurance problems (approx. 15 minute range) and the tendancy to explode. I believe only one operational flight was made (intercepting a flight of German bombers headed to Moscow), but plans to mass produce them never materialized.

I hope to build the 1/72 scale kit of this airplane, a really tiny kit (few inches long) that is apparantly plauged with terrible fit problems. But I've got a sander and a bunch of putty, and I'm ready! Wink [;)] The Zwilling should be done by then, so no problems there.

Put me In on a purely provisional basis. No guarantees that I've got any soviet Aircraft coming, But If I do, It's going for this GB. If I get it before 2006. I really want another patch.

So put me down as : Something WWII-ish? Maybe...

Tank Here is a very rough idea for a Group Build badge. I threw it together rather quickly, but seeing as there isnt one yet ( i know that we arent starting until July, but... ) I thought that I'd throw this one out there for starters.

Hope you like it, or it sparks an even better badge!!!

That's not bad! Infinitely better than what I could do, that's for sure. If no objections we'll use it until when/if a person designs another badge and then we can have a vote or something.

Matt,
Your GB badge looks good. It is simple and the words are big enough to read, even in the new small size limit.

Hello Tankmaster7,

This is a great gb idea!Big Smile [:D] I have had an ICM Yak 9 1/48th scale in my to do stack for a while.I have really been wanting to do it too. Please put me down for this one for the group build.July sounds fine to me for the start date also,as I need to finish up on my Boeing 314 clipper in the float and flies group build anyway,

Thanks,

I've always loved the look of the modern Russian MiG's and Su's. Put me in, but I'll let you know what I'm buildind as soon as I know.
Cheers,

I've got a submission for the GB badge. Tell me what you think.

Badge removed for resizing (see below).

Obviously, it can be resized to be quite a bit smaller, but still legible.
Cheers,
John

Honestly I like the second badge better (the one by johnforster), but I'll need to see the resized version before I say either way. Both are fine, I just like that one a bit better.

Both good patches. By my supreme mandate, we will stick with the first one until johnforster resizes his for us. (Please)Smile [:)]. Then to be formal we shall conduct a vote, whose result will be that you can use whichever one you like.
