Marc and Dragon Fly, thanks for the comments.  I'm almost ready to paint the Airfix kit (wing on and sanded) I just have to get the wings on the Hase kit and sand the fuselage a bit.  Looks like I won't need any filler for the wing root!Big Smile [:D]

I found the end date - OPEN.  I went looking on the first couple pages and found it.  I'm looking to finish these Doras by the end of Feb.  Hopefully I can do it.

Some good lookin' stuff Jay.  Nice work on the scratch stuff and the seats look real nice.    WOW that is some thick plastic onthe Airfix.  Did they charge you double the price?Wink [;)]

I was able to sand the Hasegawa fuselage down and make it look acceptable again.  So here are my first prgress pics of my 1:72 Airfix and Hasegawa Fw190 D9s. (The Hasegawa I am building for this GB, the Airfix for the BoG GB)  The one on the right is the Hasegawa CP.  I scratched the Airfix based on the Hasegawa bits.  I am really impressed with the resin seats, it adds so much to the CP, especially when all you see in 1:72 is pretty much the seat! As you can see the Airfix isn't painted yet.  This morning I was able to get that done and the fuselage halves for both models are now closed with CP installed! Hopefully more pics by the weekend.

I hope this GB is still going

I got a good start on my Hasegawa dora.  The cp is ready to be installed in the fuselage.  I've got some pics so I'll post them as soon as I get them downloaded off my camera.

Had a little mishap, spilled my bottle of Ambroid proweld!Censored [censored]  unfortunately some got on the port fuselage half Angry [:(!] but luckily none hit my cp bits or any of my other builds!Shock [:O] I've cleaned up the fuselage where the proweld hit it and it looks okay now.

so here are some pics of my Academy 1/72 FW190D.  I just finished glueing the canopy and did a pin wash on the panel lines.  next come the decals!  or should I do some sort of yellow tail on this?  Also, how do you go about doing the red underside?  Getting the white stripes even and straight intimidates me. I chickened out of doing that and went with a light grey.  and do you paint the exhausts a rust/black color or silver/steel?  Thanks for looking.

just noticed that I haven't painted the air intake.....

So how long do I have for this build?  I didn't see any start/end dates.  I'm hoping to get my Doras  finished by the end of Feb? maybe?  we'll see.  Tongue [:P]

Easy to get hooked on that plane.  If I could only build 1 plane over and over... I might choose that one.

Cobrahistorian(Jon) I was wondering if I could get in on this build.  I just picked up a second 1:72  D9.  My first one is for the Battle of Germany GB, I thought I'd like to do my Hasegawa kit for this build if it's okay with you.  After getting the first D9 kit I am beginning to really, really like the doras.

Thanks guys!

Matt,

She's the DML 1:48th kit with a DML Ta-152 tail grafted on to her.  I hear ya about too many other involvements, though.  I'm trying to get as much modeling done in the next week as possible.  Then its 17 days off and then I start Pre-Flight.  After that, I don't expect to have much time to do anything!

I did bring about a dozen kits with me, though.  We'll see...

Looks like a great start there Jon, what scale is she?  I have been contemplating getting another D-9 and the resin mod parts from JRutman to do a D-13 "yellow 10" for this GB but will not, too many other involvements right now.

Great looking Dora!!!

Well, here's my Big Tail Dora!  She's coming along nicely and I figure I should be able to finish her pretty quickly. Just need to get the KG(j)27 decal sheet with the checkerboards.

Thanks Matt!

I just arrived here at Rucker and I'm headed to the Museum today.  Should be a good time.  I start JOPD on Monday morning.  Should be good!

I've brought two Doras with me, one to rebuild and one brand new Trimaster kit.  We'll see if I get any time to build em!

Nice work.  The mottle turned out real nice.  Right side decals look to be a little off kilter.  Color look fine.

Jimmy,

If that's your first airplane build, we're all in trouble!  The colors look good, don't worry about them. I did notice that the exhausts were unpainted.  That's the only comment I could think of.  Oh, and the Staffelkennzeichen (the side number).  After this kit came out, further analysis of the photo confirms that it was Yellow 15 and not Blue as the Tamiya markings say.  Oh well...  BEAUTIFUL Dora!

Thanks Cobrahistorian and blkwkmatt!  I've got two 1/72 FW 190 D's in the works, a Hasegawa and an Academy.

Until I make more progress on those builds, here are some pics of my Tamiya FW 190D I did a couple of months ago.  this was my first airplane model build, and, like Tamiya's armour kits, was fun and easy to put together.  I sprayed too much Future on it when I was doing the decals, so it has a glossy look that I haven't been able to flatten at all!  I'm also not happy with the colours I used for the camo, but what's done is done.  I would really appreciate comments to help improve my skills.

And I apologize, as I've been falling down on the job!  SURE! You're welcome to join in!

I've actually made some progress on my "big tail" bird.  Got the basics painted and now I'm moving (Mother Rucker here I come!) so it'll have to wait a few weeks for final assembly, decals and paint.

This has also become an exercise in repairing existing Doras.  I've got 8 sitting in a cabinet now, completely repaired and up on their gear again.  Still have 1 more to repair.  Then there's Red 3 in Dallas, Yellow 6 upstairs and Red 13 still in the Trimaster box!

Yeesh!

Good luck at Mother Rucker, LT.

I doubt that you will find the time to complete many more kits while you are there but I'm sure that you'll have a blast.

Remeber a good landing is any one that you can walk away from!!! and oh yes, Take-offs are optional but landings, they are manditory!!!

Take care,

Matt

Hi all,
been surfing thru some of the pages of this GB, is it too late to join in?  I'm primarily an armour guy, but I just love the FW 190 and Ta 152.
I've got a couple of FW 190s in the stash and a couple partially built.  would like to work my way up to building one with the red underside.
sorry for being ignorant, but what is "Langnase" vs. other FW 190's?  was it a specific unit that flew the 190's?

"Langnase" is long nose in German, and accordingly the only type of Fw-190 that is allowed is any variant of the D version.  All of the Ta-152 variants are fair game as well.

As far as too late to join, since there is no end date, I would have to say that you could, but it is up to Cobrahistorian since he is the one running this GB.

Speaking of engine plugs, I just ordered another. I went to the Cleveland show Sunday and scored another Trimaster  D9 for $9.00. Yahoo!!!! I definitely want to do another yellow tail.

Ghettochild...can't wait to see your engine plug.
