My entry for the FW 190 D “Langnase” GB – and warm up for the 1/24 D-9 for the Battle for gern=many GB- Tamiya 1/48 JV44 converted to a “big tail”. Eduard PE cockpit and detail set, scratched strut springs and cowl flaps with actuators, Ultra Cast exhausts, Aero Master decals and MM enamels.

I LOVE 1/32 scale WWII fighters, big enough to add tons of detail to and still small enough to fit in my small house. I am begining to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this one. All told i think that I have invested about 60 - 70 hours and a bunch of cash into her, but it is so much fun. I had to scratch build the spring in the tail since the Verlinden kit doesnt have anything that represents that part in the aircraft.

Thanks for the comments.

ok here are the updated pics with the painting mostly complete. The Reich defense bands are painted on, I hate having to mess with those decals. Most of the colors are the polly scale acrylic rlm colors, the BMF is MM aluminium plate with a bit of stainless steel. Colors used are light blue(76), bright green, dark green, grey-violet, brown violet, the RLM 84 light blue green, and the BMF. Interiors are RLM 66 and 02.

My references were the Revell Germany instructions and the profile I found on another forum.

Here is the profile

And here is my effort

Hope that you guys like it!! Big Smile [:D]

Any and all comments are welcome!!!

Matt – Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Future this morning… decals tonightSmile [:)]

Had to re-dip the completed canopy (headrest, rails, slides, hand grip… all installed) in Future from a "missed a spot with the tape masking problem and the following paint clean up gone awry"… and I dropped it on the floor…. Dog hair stuck all over the placeDisapprove [V]

Looks good, by just looking at my model your mix looks just a bit too tan but very, very close. I think that I would be very pleased with that mix had I not bought the color of eagles paint.
I have most of the painting done, just have to do the small stuff and the canopy. I'll see if I can post some pics later on tonight.

Never tried it, but I don't think there should be a problem. Water based products, (future)cannot attack laquers (metalizer). BTW...have you noticed there doesn't seem to be much activity in this GB?

The references are very sketchy for this A/C but the rudder and bottoms of the Ailerons are 76. There are references to the NMF being the whole underside of the wing and others says that maybe the front half was 84. Since it is speculative I decided to go this route since it looks a bit more interesting.

Now my question is…Can MM buffing metalizer be sprayed with Future and decaled like normal paint?

Finally getting some paint down on the 190 big tail conversion. Mixed up a whole jar of RLM “84” and that goes down tonight.

In the event you are unhappy…. I was playing around with the suggested mix form the decal sheet and it’s not even close. Remember I am going by the way it looks in print and on a PC monitor. So far most of what I have read uses the word “green” in the description of the color and the mix 76 and 02 is anything but that… too blue ish. Going back to my kindergarten art class on how to make green… I added some Gelb 04 then white to lighten to the right hue and it looked great. But of course I did not write down the proportions but they were approximately in color/parts:

76/4or5
02/1or2
04/1
White was added ‘til it was the right hue. I am close to that stage so when I mix up a final batch…. I will make a note of the mix. Found this web site as well along the way…. Check the bottom 3.

Good info,

I have received the color of eagles paint and I must say that it is a very close match to most of the color profiles that are online. Having said that, I will pass along that you MUST thin the paint as suggested on the bottle (I used my standard - isopropyl alcohol ) and it was not good. I have switched to using the suggested distilled water and it works just fine. I am also a bit fed up with the Polly S acrylic paints, great colors, just a ton of tip dry going on and that is very annoying and time consuming.
Other than that I'll try to get some pics up so you guys can have a look.
EDIT
Here is a link to the profile that I am using to as reference/ inspiration:

I have ordered the Color of Eagles RLM 84 ( which it turns out was not a genuine RLM codeing but is supposed to be the Green blue or straw color that is on a bunch if the late war planes.) If I dont like the shade that the paint gives me I will definitly use the method that is mentioned in those instructions.

Jerry,

Looks great, I love the subtle weathering, especially on the underside. Looks like it just returned from a flight!!!

Great Job, hope mine turns out as good.

Update
I have started on the painting on my D-9, talk about a complex paint scheme, a total of 8 different colors!!! I am attempting to paint it as "black 6" like seen here
http://hsfeatures.com/features04/fw190d9bigtail32ir_1.htm
but will be adding some mottleing on the sides, that is the biggest challenge so far, I think that my Fine needle for my badger 150 is a bit tweeked so am having some difficulty. Will post some pics for you guys to look at and hopefully give me some feedback.

Nice looking conversion!!! I am very glad that my kit came with the big tail so that i wouldnt have to mess with converting it. And I can use the other tail on the other kit that I'll be converting into a D-12 "gelb 10" sometime in the future.

Again...very nice work there Marc.

I have finally completed the Trimaster kit. First let me say WOW!!! I'm not afraid to also say I was a little intimidated at first because of the complexity of this model. But with some excellent tips and support from Pix and Cobrahistorian, I stumbled thru this build. I have definitely learned more about modeling in this GB, than I ever have. Too many Tamiya kits I guess. This was no box shaker for sure, but I am reasonably pleased with the results. Now that it's finished, I want to do another and improve all my screw ups.

Anyway....I hope you like my entry in the "Langnasen " GB.

Cheers,

Jerry

I didn't want to get anymore grief for not having the rigging on...so here it is.
