                        Round the world Group Build (Start soon - finish later)

                        The round the world GB is go. Should be fun to see if we can get this model around the world and actually finished. The subject is a Hobbycraft 1/48 Me-109. Unfortunately, there's not much room for other people to join the build, so this is the line up:

                        We'll assign jobs later on. So, get rambling fellas, I know that's what you do best.

                        hmmmm... a new GB.. something I swore I wouldn't get into... although this is interesting, 7 people shipping a kit around the world until it is finished... maybe we will see some more of these...

                        Tell ya what Daniel - better than a picture of an East Texas Timber Jackalope I will ship you the real thing when it comes my turn on the build list... maybe you can solve part of that cane toad prob that way... Jackalopes are voracious eaters! (an the only carnivore of the rabbit family)

                        For those who don't know... this GB is one kit sent over 3 continents with one part of the construction occuring at each step... this should be really interesting. Something more interesting is the person who forwards the kit also sends a bit of memorabilia back to the person who sent HIM the kit of where he lives or his culture... (hence my comment to PingTang about sending him a Jackalope)

                        So far it is going from Australia, then to Texas (USA), Canada, then (hopefully) to the UK....

                        However I dropped into the Midawy GB last night to see what the rest of the Happy Acres residents were up to, and spotted my name, and there was no cussing after it either!!!

                        Obviously there is a more than possible chance some damage will occur to our little project somewhere along the way.

                        So each persons 'step' of production may become a repair aswell, with pics of courseSmile [:)]

                        OK so i have the kit here but what stage am i doingQuestion [?] how about i just send it to Pingy for the c/pit construction, and when it's ready i can prime and preshade then send it to Tom for canopy masking, BTW Tom how about you do the undercarriage as well as the canopy mask.............

                        OK then, this is what I've got so far:

                        Me - cockpit;
                        Darren - assembly and maybe filling/sanding;
                        Jules - filling/sanding, prime and pre-shade;
                        Tweets - camo painting;
                        Tom - canopy and under carriage;
                        Dave - decals;
                        Karl - wash and final painting;

                        Then maybe back to Jules to do the final assembly (?). Don't know about that order, I'm just trying to do as little international postage as possible. How does that sit with everyone? Any suggestions?

                        Jules Haven't seen that plane, but I'm sure Tweets can handle it with his camo skills.

                        Tweets That's half the fun of this group build mate. If we can get this thing to the end in one piece, it will be a miracle.

                        My missus' thinks I'm totally bent just talking about models on the internet, she's supportive of my hobby, just doesn't understand the need to share it with others. I wouldn't even dream of telling her about Kremps or any of the other dicussions that go on here or she'd likely unplug the modem cable. Shock [:O]

If Dave is interested, I have some bf109 decals from superscale, I could send you some of the extras, I don't think there are any markings for Bartells though. they would probably be better than the kit decals anyway. So Dave, you game? (that way at least I can contribute a little bit!) I assume this is a 1:48 kit? Smile [:)]

                        Jay First of all, you got to hang out in more than one GB if you want to catch on to a great idea like this Wink [;)]. It was cooked up by the gang in the Midway GB.

                        If you can scan the images of the aircraft camo schemes (or a link to a review or something) so that the group can see what they are then maybe they would take a vote on which one to use, your Superscale or the Bartell, or any other suggestions. The model is 1:48 and I believe the model is a G-6, am I right guys?

                        Hey, I only have a few kits and I can't be all the GB's I see! Okay I'll scan them tonight and send you the images tomorrow. Let me know if you guys want to use them, I don't see myself making any bf109g6's any time soon. I think the set I have is for Barkhorn, Marseille, and Hartmann. The Marseille decals for JG26 are used up though.

                        The bottom scheme of each sheet is I believe the two schemes that are up for discussion so far. Anyone have any other schemes they wish to consider?

                        Yes Dave, the bottom one is the one I have. But I only bought it for the unit markings of Marseille (jg26 or jg27), though I didn't actually use his aircraft number etc., I also have the detail sheet for the extras like fuel, oil, first aid etc. Like I said I'll have to check again tonight.

                        actually if Jay was still willing to offer the decals that would be keen too... even though he isnt in on the building itself, it is participating! Then we'll add two dots to GWN for participation.

                        Canopy and undercarriage sounds good to me.... you want me to just paint and weather them a bit? I have the feeling that, and the prop would be the FIRST things broken off and might be best left for final assembly.

                        ::rubbing hands together with glee:: masking it is then! umm... this isn't like the Hasegawa Stuka and Tamiya Zero canopies is it? I hate those... but will still do them! hmmm... if they are too picky I might paint them by hand, something I am practicing and getting good at lately!!!

                        I was just thinking, we could include another stop in the kits tour. Maybe we can get someone to do a coat of future after camo and before decals? Unless you want to do that too Tom.

                        Maybe Jay could do that, and then if he's still willing to offer the decals, can send it all along to Dave to put the decals on......

                        Tom Seeing as though you'd come after the camo is painted, you could mask, paint and weather the wheel wels too. Then put your completed under carriage in the box and jules can glue it in at the finish.

                        And I like Red 13 too......I've always like those late war camo jobs with red numbers on them. They look kinda cool.

                        Jules - next time you get near the end of a roll of film snap a shot of that canopy so I can plan my attack... or Daniel if you can when you get the kit. I'd appreciate it! I've come up against two canopies lately that have tested my skills... (the Stuka being one of them)

                        yeah we need to think about the tail end of assembly as that will be a bit more difficult to plan out as so many things happen right at the end... I'll be happy to paint and weather the wheel wells... I can't wait to see all the pics...
