                        OK guys, I'm trying to pick up this thread again and I've got to tell you it's not easy, I'm still a tad confused about what you are talking about Confused [%-)]. Is it the post office or beer, or both.

                        Also I was (un)fortunate enough to spend Wednesday night last week with a couple of guys from BrisVegas. Well we all watched the State of Origin rugby while we had a drink or ten and all I can say is they breed them mighty strange up north Big Smile [:D]

                        ok to Sydney it is 13810 km, or 8581 miles from me... (give or take, sometimes Drunk Joe gets his golf cart stuck at the end of the street and you have to go a block over to leave the neighborhood), to Melbourne it is 14447 km or 8977 miles. To Alice Springs from here it is 15120 km or 9395 miles miles. NSW wasn't listed on the distance calculator, it had a sign saying the entire region was down for construction.... Confused [%-)]

                        To London from her it is: 7821 km or 4860 miles

                        To British Columbia, Canada it is 3184 km or 1978 miles..

                        So if we track each leg through on there we can get a grand total.

                        OK ladies, I'm back from Canberra (stayed there a little longer than the planned two days). I'll have a look at the cockpit for this 109 today. The detail in there is pretty scarce, so I might add some extra bits and pieces. I'll post pics as I go.

                        BTW, while I was in Canberra, I picked up lots of goodies at the comp/swap meet. didn't win anything at the comp, but got a second place and a few thirds so I'm happy.

                        Thanks Karl. The goodies I picked up were:

                        1/48 Mauve P-40N plus decals for it,
                        1/72 Hobbycraft S-2F1 tracker (a pretty terrible kit really) with conversion set for an aussie S-2G. I'll save that one for the next Aussie GB, gonna take some TLC to get it looking half decent.
                        A 1/12 Tamiya Yamaha YZR-M1 motorbike kit,
                        and a few books and decal sets.

                        All pretty cheap too......

                        It's a very nice kit Jules. The eduard kit is actually the Mauve kit, but with added PE and resin parts. I've seen the Mauve kit built up and it's very nice. The cockpit isn't the greatest, so I might get a resin pit. If you want a P-40N, have a look at the new Hasagawa kit. It is beautiful. The cockpit is awesome and the surface detail is great too. I'm just starting work on one now, doing some cockpit painting. I'll post progress pics when I can so you can see what it's like. I'll do the Mauve kit soon too, so I'll be able to compare them well.

                        While we are on the subject of P-40's AMtech are going to release a P-40K which will come with RAAF markings. This is going to be their P-40E with a new resin tail by Black Box. Now the good part is that is will also come with the decals for the P-40E as a bonus which also has RAAF markings. So it's going to be hello AMtech P-40K and hello Hasegawa P-40EBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

                        Oh and Pingy congrats on your placings, but you didn't tell us what models you entered?

                        You heard me right Jules. Hasegawa released a P-40E a few months ago, and have followed that up with a P-40N now. Both 1/48 scale. The N model had the clear canopy for the rear cockpit instead of the windows used on earlier models.

                        I got mine for only about $40 mate. That's pretty cheap for a modern 1/48 scale model that's just been released. It's a good kit, but I've just run into the first problem on mine. There are alot of inserts and the tail is molded seperate to the forward fuselage to make it easier for Hasegawa to mold several versions. Problem is, some of these parts don't fit too well, and alot of the inserts go where there aren't panel lines on the real aircraft. Means you have to fill the gaps, whish is hard to do without losing all that nice detail. That's my only complaint so far.......

                        I know what you mean Pingy I came across that with a 109G which had the normal tail and the larger wooden one for the G10, i think it was the Fujimi kit which i gave to a mate who has only just started modellingThumbs Up [tup]....
                        I'll definatly have to get one, Athertons A/C is quite striking with it's white tail and wing leading edges..........

                        That's pretty much the scheme I'm doing mine in. Olive drab over neutral grey with white tail, leading edges and prop spinner. The canopy is also natural metal so it should look quite interesting. Mine is called "Black magic", there's an article on it in the latest flightpath magazine. Found out from the mag that my decals are all wrong for it. Gonna have to do some scrounging for decals.......

                        The Hasa Hurricane suffers from the same problem.

                        The inserts on the leading edge of the wing don't fit too well, but at least all the joints are along panel lines. I've read a few reviews of the Hasa P40, and they've all commented on this point.

                        As for the decals being innacurate, what are they Error Master, as the ones I used on the Hurricane were incorrect in several key areas?

                        Look forward to seeing the photos once it complete though Daniel.

                        The decals are by an Australian company called Red Roo decals. According to the decals, the fuselage code is HU-L and the serial is A29-563. I've now read a magazine article that is pretty sure that the fuselage code was HU-E and the serial was A29-575. Also, the codes are printed grey when they should be white. I got some A numbers this weekend, and I'll probably mask and paint the codes.......

                        Daniel I picked up that copy of Flightpath last week, it's excellent isn't it. Jules I would recommend grabbing a copy as it covers Aussie P-40's from the desert through to New Guinea and makes a great reference.

                        I think from memory that the Hase P-40N is retailing for $38 at my LHS, which is not bad money for a brand new kit.

                        It is good. It's got some good pics of "Black magic" that I'd never seen before, so it'll be very handy reference when I come to paint and weather it. And, $38 is a steal for a kit like that. Worth every cent.....

                        I might start doing some work on the 109's cockpit soon. I've found a few pics on the net of a G-10's cockpit, so I've got a decent starting point for references. Does anyone else have some good shots of a 109G's cockpit. Anything would be helpful because the kits cockpit is pretty crappy.

                        Darren does your LHS have anymore of the P-40N's cause i wouldn't mind getting my hands on one, My LHS hasn't had any new Hasegawa kits for months..........

                        Also, it's a huge pity but with the P-40 kits that are coming out at the moment the only decals you can get are for the Pacific when all our aces scored their victories in Nth Africa (Caldwell, Barr, Gibbes etc, etc). Not that I have anything against the Pacific theatre, it's just I'd like to see some from the desert war.

                        Daniel, Check out the following link for some great shots of the G6, it shouldn't be that different to the G10 as they are pretty much the same aircraft, it’s just that one has a souped up engine

                        I picked up the gunsight thing too, you can see the holes in the IP where it’s supposed to be bolted on.

                        I’ve got the same two 109 references JB and I had a look through volume 2 last night and couldn’t find a picture of a cockpit, heaps of pictures of 109Gs from the outside, but nothing for the inside.
