Shayne - I cut the little peg off the part and then drill holes with a drill in the right dimension. I then dip the fishing line in some super glue and attach it. Simple as that. Don't use CA glue though as it will melt the plastic of the fine points of attachement.

I hope you guys have seen that Renaissance is releasing a Konica Minolta RC211V '05 transkit? It will cost 64 euros but will include allmost every cowling part in resin and the decal sheet. From what I hear Etienne is also working on the Batman decal sheet and some stunning transkits for the 2001 Repsol NSR's!

best regards
Joel - who is awaiting a hopefully stunning race at Laguna Seca

Progress report.
Fortuna Yamaha M1 parts all prepared ready for painting, just waiting for a warm sunny week-end. Have started the WEST RCV with glueing a few bits together, will probaberly work on the RCV for the next couple of weeks getting the bits ready for painting once the weather turns more favourable and warm

Hey Gents,

Just got back from Laguna...OH MY GAWD ARE THOSE BIKES LOUD!!! I mean like shake the earth, pierce your eardrums loud. Got some GREAT pics and video, from turn 11 and the souvenier area, including video of one of Rossi's '04 M1s at the Yamaha tent. Also got Wayne Rainey's YZR, and a few others. If there is any way possible for you to go to a Moto GP race (if you haven't been) you MUST go. Tickets don't go on sale until September, but believe me, I will be among the first to call. And this time I'll be going all three days-the only way to do it. Even the wife agrees with that one as she had a blast as well. I will do my best to post some of my pics in the next couple days. And seeing Nicky win was fantastic! Woulda liked to see Colin take it- hey, he's on a Yami and from Texas - but this is just as good. Obviously, I didn't do any building out there, picked up a New Ray "model" of Rossi's M1 for $15USD that I plan on trying to do a detail job on alongside my Tamiya effort. I definitly have new inspiration after seeing these machines in person, so excuse me while I go build!

There's nothing like seeing them in real life for inspiration is there? I'd love to go and see a moto GP race one day. Maybe next year I'll be able to go there as well as the F1. Good to see Hayden win the GP though. I'm getting sick of seeing Rossi win all the time.

Hey Yamafreak. I know what you mean. I made it too the Assen round afew weeks back, and you don't realise how loud they are until you hear them in the flesh. my ears are still ringing! My last motogp before that was donnington 2002 and they are much louder even since then. Get you tickets booked up for lagna next year!

As for my build. Not started yet. Will hopefully make a move within the next few days. Been too busy racking the miles up on my "real" bike. The weather here in Scotland has been too good to be holed up inside. Glad to be out on my gixer again after shelling out for a new cylinder head. Long story!

Ciao for now. BTW, Rossi will be victorious again at Donny! Well done nicky though. Loved that victory lap with his pop on the back!

Hey guys,

Just started painting and assembling the M1 engine components today. Finnaly got off my lazy ****** and started the build!

Was looking at the frame and swingarm assemblies today. Was wondering what the consensus is on leaving these un painted? This was the first time I've really inspected them, and there are lots of nooks and cranies that could get swamped by the paint. Don't want to loose the detail underneath the paint. The plastic does look a bit dull though so, maybe a coat of matt clear coat over the plastic?

I have the piant here ready to go so might just try 2 coats of a very light mist. My only concern is that I'm spraying out of the can (no airbrush) and I know how tricky this can be.

What do you guys think?

Just give the parts a matt coat and see how it looks. If it looks good to you, go with it. My only problem would be the marks left at sprue cut-off points and any seams that needed sanding. They might look a bit rough with just a clear coat on them. If you've got Tamiya TS-29, it works very well IMO. If you warm it up in warm water and spray it on in thin coats, you shouldn't have any problems with covering details.

There hasn't been much going on in this GB lately has there? I'm sure once a few more of us start our builds it'll start getting better. I need to get a few other builds off my bench before I start my M1's, but they (at least one of them anyway) are next on the waiting list. Can't wait to start.

Cheers for that daniel.

Just finished spraying. Looks fine after 2 light coats of TS-29. Don't know what I was worrying about! Thanks anyway mate.

You're right, it has been quiet on here for a while. as you say once more people get started it might pick up. I'll try and post some progress pics before the end of the week.

Sorry guys, I just got started, now on a course for the next few weeks. (Trying to an old dog...) Anyways, time is not all that readily available, either to build or to chat. Will have more of an update soon, though. Currently hardly started with the engine. For those of you wayyy down the road: that's step 1!

Um, about all I have done so far is sprayed TS-29 like mitch, and brush painted the interior cowlings X-18. Don't feel like pulling my hair out trying to cut c/f decal sheets to fit those pieces. I'm saving the c/f for parts like A25 and A33, the airbox, and A37 exhaust heat shield, maybe the fender if motivated enough. That's enough seeing as how this is my first work with the carbon decals. Glad to see you all haven't left me in the dust as far as progress is concerned. Speaking of which, any comments on Donington?

I thought Donington was a pretty good race. Don't know how Rossi managed to stay on that bike and win the race though. He nearly got chucked off about 5 times!! But he was just too good at the end though wasn't he? Don't know if Sete could have stayed with him or not, would have been interesting. Can't wait for the next race at Sachsenring.....

Wonder if they'll be an option from S27, or better yet, part of Tamiya's 05 M1 kit with the optional Laguna Seca shceme? (Please Tamiya?)

That's interesting. I wonder what the advantage of those discs over the other ones are? Look the same only with more of that light grey material inside of the carbon.

As for donny, what a race! God only knows how Rossi managed to win by that margin. I really think that we are witnessing something extra special in him. Like we didn't know that allready! Think he will have the championship wrapped up just after the summer break. My respect for the fans at Donny for sticking out the weather. Glad I didn't choose to go there this year! Looked bloody freezing.

Sete,Sete,Sete...what were you thinking? Slow going on my M1, doing a little parts prep here and there not much else. We didn't set an end date did we? Sure hope not with my slowness...

"Rossi, no probleeem, got you nailed today - just one more lap!!" Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]
"Awww sh...."Blush [:I] Blush [:I]

Ironically, I decided in the end not to experiment and to keep it a Telefonica bike. Did some body spraying this weekend. And the 10millionth time: please use primer! I decided to not use it this time around and made life for myself much more difficult! Apart from that, engin basics (Step 1) almost done, did the wash this weekend. Onto step two shortly!

The whole process is being hampered by my nearing the end of my Jordan and quite enjoying my other build (see-through 911GT1) as well. And well, days are getting longer, so I find more time to get on my MTB again!

wohoo, awaiting some Gunze color for the Kanemoto NSR. I've started sanding the fairings and taking care of the frame plating on the nsr's. The RCV's are taking me longer than expected...I don't remember the last three taking this long...I must be old.
I'm getting married on the 20th so there is not much time to build...not that I actually find that too bad this time but I thaught you all had to know why I'm lagging behind.
My best
Joel

Hey Joel, cograts mate! Been married for almost 10 years now and it's been great! Just expecting our first young one now, so it's all excitement in the house! The dogs won't know what hit them! Wink [;)]

Good luck on the road forward. You might find a kit takes a while longer to complete, but what the heck!

Thanks for your thoughts guys! They really cheared me up!

Shayne - Renaissance transkit looks great to me. I've ordered one cause the Konica Minolta bike is just totally awesome. As it is a ยด05 bike it doesn't fit my line up but I think I'll widen the scope and make 99-05 kits instead of stoping at 04 ****** I see some great bikes coming up the road. I guess the transkit could be an expensive experience if Tamiya will release a 05 RCV, but I guess they will be tied up with some M1's. The 50th anniversary livery and the Miro livery will be to good looking on the shelf to be without.
I hope that you've heard that Etienne from Renaissance is working on a Batman livery for the Konica Minolta and also som 2001 NSRs! The pacific GP livery is one of them!

Congrats Joel. I hope everything goes OK on the big day. I'm in the process of arrangeing our wedding at the moment. Got till 2007 though! The stress is getting to me allready!

Got some progress pics that I took today. Reasonably happy so far. The only thing that's given me real greif so far is the carbon decals. There is just so much on this bike, and all the bits are really awkward shapes which has made it a nightmare.

Frame, stand, engine + swingarm

From the other side.....

Frame from above

Shot of the engine

Stated working on the exhuast, airbox (another carbon nightmare!) and am getting the fairing parts ready to paint.

At this rate I will be finished within about 2 weeks! This is the quickest I have built. Never worked on so many different parts at the one time before. Makes sense though.

Will post some more soon........

Mitch

Edit Man, just noticed the seam at the back of the engine. How could I miss that? Where's my filler........
