progress report:
i haven't gotten much else done on my little fokkers,
i was working on the white sections of the fuselage
on the Baumer a/c, but need 2 lay down another coat
of white paint because the streaky green finish is still
kind of visible underneath... Dead [xx(]
hopefully i will have some more 2 report & updated pix next week.

And now, thanks to Ed, (keyworth on the LEM Forums) who sent me a replacement propeller, I can now declare the construction on this SOC-3 Seagull completed.

This is the old Revell SOC-3 Seagull in 1/72 scale, painted with Tamiya Metallic Silver in the rattle can and Testor's Yellow and Polly Scale Red with a brush. She is coated overall in Future semi-gloss; although more gloss than flat. I have four views of her:

I am especially pleased by the engine detail I was able to do. I had painted it first in Polly Scale Oily Black, then dry-brushed it with Testor's Steel. I like the outcome.

Now that the construction is complete, I will now take some time to rig her. I'll have photos up later when the rigging is complete.

Comments are welcome.

Thanks Simon! I appreciate it.

What's next? Hmmmm.....

Check out the Ships Forum ofr two of my builds being completed, and I also finished several Armor pieces I posted there.

I should have the Beechcraft Bonanza finished soon, and I'll p[robably go ahead and finish off the C-119 Boxcar.

Hmmm.......

Next I'll be starting an AC130U Gunship in response to a challenge I received from a fellow IPMS club member.

Among others.......

Simon,

Thanks! Count me in! Of course, I've got tons of other builds going and no time to do anything, but I've gotta get these two done for work, so they take priority!

Exquisite build Duke. Glad you have been able to source a replacement prop.
Really great work - what's next?

Cobra - this group build runs to the end of 06 and I for one would like to see you aboard. The more the merrier IMHO.

Well, thanks to a friend on the LEM, I will be receiving a replacement propeller to fit onto my SOC-3 Seagull. Now that the decals are on and it has been clearcoated, I shall be able to finish this model once my replacement has arrived. Meanwhile, here are two views of the Seagull all ready and waiting:

Thanks for looking. Comments are welcome.

Thanks Simon! There are some pretty good ideas there. I may resort to one or two is another friend from another Forum is unable to find me a propeller in his parts box.

Can't wait to see pics of your progres. That Gotha sounds like it will be a challenge, but will certainly look great when finished!

Gap-filling CA glue is great for seams that aren't convinced to close. But I'm sure you knew that already.Blush [:I]

Well done Frosty and Duke - nice to see some people making good progress! The Seagull is a real beaut - well worth scratch building a propellor for whilst waiting for the kit one to turn up. Either that or how about a beaching trolley and work shop dio then you can say it's away for repairs!!
My DrI is progressing very slowly the interior is painted and fuselage mated together but still has a gap that if I can't encourage together will have to fill. This falls on the underside of the fuselage however so isn't that big a deal hopefully. The Gotha has had all the major components cleaned up and the wheels/props have been primed. I thought I would try the lozenge decals on the wheels first and if a disaster I can always resort to the non lozenge painted scheme - (cries of "chicken" from the assembled audience!)
My dad is over from the UK for this month so not doing much modelling currently. Hope all is well with you all
Regards Simon

Welcome back bstrump! I'm looking forward to seeing that bad boy built. I've always been rather intimidated by that kit. Yours will be fun to watch come together!

Thanks also for the compliment. I really appreciate it!

Hi everybody. Sorry I haven't been around much. Looks like I've missed a lot, too. Frosty, Jabbe and Duke, great looking builds you have! Duke, love the camo on the Cr42 and Frosty, that paint scheme is sweet indeed.

As for me, well, I'm just getting going on the Roden Felixstowe. Just got some interior work done as well as some construction on the engines. Nothing worth posting pics of though.

And, Frosty, fantastic job on the Dr1. I'll soon start one myself.

Awesome work Frosty! You are truly a master at these small biplane/triplane models! I just love the streaky camo you use on these kits. I can't wait to see more pics!

I am also pleased to announce that one of my two projects for this Group Build is completed! Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand back as I roll out my now completed Italian Cr 42 Falco Biplane:

I had a devil of a time with those old decals, but everything went together well and I can now deliver her to my Italian Air Force!

Meanwhile, despite the loss of the propeller and a nasty fall off the workbench, I have forged ahead on my little Seagull. I got the last bits of paint on it, and will now clearcoat it again to ready it for decals. Once that is done, all I can do is hope that someday the propeller will reappear out of the Black Hole it fell into!

Here is the latest pics on my Seagull:

The yellow is brighter in the second pic due to the flash. The upper pic shows a more accurate yellow.

I'll post more pics up later when I get the decals on the Seagull. Until then, enjoy the new Falco!

i used post-it notes 2 mask the decal stripes & black wingtips
it worked pretty well, thank goodness !
the lower & middle wings 4 this one go on this weekend,
then i will do paint touch-ups on all 3 Dr.I a/c...

Hi guys!

I'm happy to say I finished my build. For such a little airplane, it took me an awful (aweful? awfull?) long time. It got put to the side for a while and then school got tough. I kept thinking "I'll work on it while I work on some of the bigger models"...but I ended up just staring at it and not doing any work. Finally last night I buckled down and mounted the wings, and the decals went on this afternoon. There are a few touch-ups needed (like a tail skid), but that'll happen soon.

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know that Modelscala contest ended today here in Portugal. Around 660 kits were displayed there! Huge success!!! And the good news are: the "Buzzard" got an honourable mention and an invitation for an article for a national magazine, and the Halbie got bronze! Nice day....

Every one seems to be doing really really well. I've been busy with school, so I haven't had much time for the Fokker. I promise I'm still in this GB, and I like seeing everyone's progress. I'll get mine finished soon enough.

This group build is really shaping up and it looks like everyone is having fun. Duke your 2 builds are progressing really well the paint jobs on both are very well executed. Looking forward to seeing the finished result. Rafael in a single word sweet - well worth the 9 months of work expended. A really beautiful build and another gorgeous scheme. Frosty thanks for the further pics - the DrI lineup is going to be impressive.
Regards to all.

Yes the DRI is great I just can't get over how small it is. With such a small span it must have been very twitchy in roll.

Simon U:
thanx !
i really love lozenge camo also, especially now that i've tried eagle strike decals !!!
the ailerons on the d.vi were attached 2 the main wing, i had 2 separate them myself in order 2 reposition them...
here's a pic of the d.vi head-on, as requested:

no doubt about the Dr.I being a handful, apparently only expert pilots
could handle one... a basically unstable platform makes 4 a very maneuverable a/c,
& the climbing ability generated by 4 lifting surfaces was hard 2 equal ...
but those same lifting surfaces generated an awful lot of drag.
so it wasn't the fastest a/c in the skies, but i'll bet it was fun 2 fly
if u knew what u were doing !

Rafael:
that's another beauty !

progress update from Schwerin West:
here r the latest round of pix:

Lt. Baumer's Dr.I

Nice projects, Duke!

I've just droped by to show you my latest project, the vacform Joystick 1/72 Halberstadt Cl.IV, a project I've been building since January, and that I've just finished yesterday (for the Vacform GB). Enjoy!

Well, after a month of overtime at my job, I finally found some time to get into my hobby room to build! I gotta say first, well done on all the great work done on all the completed kits! You guys and gals did awesome! Also congrats on the award Simon! That was well deserved!

Now, here is the progress I got done on my two planes. First off, I finally managed to get the upper wing on my SOC-3 Seagull. It went on well and easy. Now I have to find out if it needs to be rigged. Here it is:

The engine cowl is only dry fit on the model. Structurally, I can go no further until I find/replace the missing propeller. Man, I got to get back to building jets; no propellers to lose! Banged Head [banghead]Sigh [sigh]

Here's another couple of views, including a closeup of my pilots and instrument panel (which isn't as clear as I wanted):

I'll be clearcoating this and decaling it next, after a couple more paint touch ups.

Speaking of paint, I finally finished the painting on my Falco Cr 42. Here are a couple views of this one:

She's also ready for clearcoat and decals. Note if you can the scratchbuilt windscreen I did from that clear plastic used in bubble pack wrap. The originial got lost somwhere, so I replaced it.

Once I go to nights as talent at the Haunt, I'll have much more time to work on things. I should have these completed in no time then. Until then, enjoy!
