                        Don't have a copy of the Japanese GP from last weekend do you mate??? On TV over here, they absolutely butchered the coverage. They tried to fit the race into 1hr20min and still fitted 20 minutes of ads in. Went away for one ad break and came back and all of a sudden 8 laps had dissapeared......Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Makes it very hard to follow a race. And, it was one of the best races I've seen (well what I saw anyway)......

                        BTW.... It looks like I might not be able to start my T4 for a week or so. I'm currently building my new work bench so I won't be modelling for a while.

                        Ok fellas,

                        I got a stack of F1 races on tape to provide the background noise whilst I attempt to not make a mess of the Lotus. Supplies are poised to pounce on the kit. Maybe I can get this one finished in a timely manner instead of adding to the "in progress" list.

                        ryanpm-assuming my LHS comes thru, I'll be building the Benetton B192 rather than the Tyrrell. If they don't, then it's time for Plan B....whatever that is....

                        Looks like a great kit Ryanpm, i wouldn't mind building one myself but for now i'll stick with the Lotus 25, I already have the can of Easy off oven cleaner to remove the Chrome so that will be the first thing i do when the GB kicks off........

                        Cool man, glad it's sorted!

                        Realised this morning only what this starting date does... It's keeping the season alive! By accident or design, you've selected to start the day after the season ends! Niiice, that way we can keep building through the offseason!

                        I am at this stage in a bit of a tussle with the supplier. My decals sheet does not look all that brilliant on one or two decals, so I might have to wait for a replacement set, otherwise S27 had a slight mess in their designing the fade-over on the elf's and the renault badge on the nose. Only visible up close, but I just want to make sure if that's the way it was meant to be or if I got a dodgey decal sheet...

                        No problem. That's what I thought you meant. I just wanted to be sure.

                        You speak better English than some members whose first language is English.

                        Here is a photo review of the Tamiya 1/20 Williams BMW FW24 kit. I am thinking ofmaking thumbnails and having to click on those to view the pictures, but I'm not sure about it yet.

                        I think that's probably part of the reason we aren't seeing any new Tamiya kits of 04-05 cars. The curves are too complex too mold in plastic on some of the cars. Especially the Renault and Mclaren. That's why I'm looking forward to building the T4, it's built like a truck.......

                        Ferrari's are good to build too, all red. The decals on the B192 are pretty easy to apply Bob. I wouldn't worry about them too much. With a bit of Micro set/sol they'll go down perfectly.

                        SeaBee-I'm sharing some of your concern for the Benetton I have on order. I'm using a picture of the Tamiya website build as my wallpaper on my work pc as inspiration. Every time I look at it, I'm thinking....oh-this is gonna be a tough one. And I checked out the link you listed-very impressive work. Will be a good aid, although, I'm strictly OOB for this one. I've spent too much time on WW II aircraft and most flaws can be 'corrected' with a bit of 'weathering'! Wink [;)]

                        It's a Revell Sauber I was allready busy with when you started the thread on the GB. Not the R25, which only arrived on Friday! Still firmly in the box, no worries... Getting worried about the complex shapes and curves, though... could be more tricky than I hoped for!

                        That has got to be one of the best races I have seen. How often do you see a fight for the lead on pretty much the last lap? Imola was good, but you sort of never felt like Schuey could get past.

                        Raikkonen won at Japan in a stunning display. Renault has a two point lead over McLaren due to Villeneuve pushing Montoya off the track on the first lap.

                        Bob, you really don't have to worry about those decals. Looks intimidating, but I built that kit a while ago (got trashed in our recent move) and they practically fall in place.

                        I've seen a stunning version of that car - I think it was on Modelersite a month or so ago. Maybe still there, if you want a peek.

                        I stopped by my LHS today and placed an order for a 1/20th Tamiya 1992 Benetton-Ford B192. Hopefully it will be in next weekend. I'm a little nervous about the number & placement of decals but had difficulity picking a subject. It was between the Benetton and the 1965 Honda RA272. However, I just sold my Honda Civic & bought a BRIGHT yellow Ford Focus and that influenced my final decision. Go figure.....now if I can just convience the wife to let me 'accent' the yellow Focus with some bright green....Big Smile [:D]

                        The Scale motorsport templated CF set are pretty much a couple of sheets of their CF decals with templates printed on the back. If you want to save a bit of money, you could just by some CF decals and make your own templates. Masking tape works well for making patterns.

                        cupcai They are some good pics you've taken there. I might have to post a few of the pics I took at this years Aussie GP. Only problem is, I'm not a marshall so I can't get as close as you did.Thumbs Up [tup]

                        Scale Motorsport produces a carbon fiber decal template set for the FW24. I believe it also comes with the decals, but I'm not sure.

                        I have found MS-5 (The metallic black you're supposed to use on the MP4/13) by accident to create quite a nice CF effect instead of X-18, but just a quick mist layer, not built up and sprayed "properly". Works quite nice for those smallish and difficult parts. And if you combine it with CF decals in different places, it ends up looking acceptable to me. Personal taste comes in here, but I don't like all the CF on a car/bike to look exactly the same - at times I just use different scales on different sections as well.

                        Pretty much everything on a modern F1 car except the engine, radiators and (in most cases) the gear box is made of carbon fibre. I usually like to cover most parts that are bare CF on the real car with decals on my model. It's not absolutely necessary, but I think it looks good. On my first cars, I just painted the parts semi-gloss black and it looks fine. You'll probably need to do some research to find the best CF decal for a particular model. I did find through pics that the best match for most of the CF on the FW24 was "scale motorsport 1/24 plain weave CF decal".

                        Hope that helps.

                        Thanks for all the links everyone. I'm interested in buying the Lion Roar PE set.

                        I have another question, what all on a F1 car is carbon fiber and is best to be covered with a carbon fiber decal? I have a BMW FW24. This will be my first F1 car build, and I don't know that much about F1 cars except for the basics, stats, materials, etc. I love to watch the races!
