Mark - I would have liked to have gotten a set of those, but everywhere I looked was out of stock. Now the budget won't allow for it. Sad [:(]

Also try ScaleMotorsport directly - they make their own sets for several cars, super! Maybe they have a set for your car. Very fine bunch of people! You can get their products at other stores, too...

David usually gets stock once a week for the stuff that is not in stock, if still in production of course... And what I like a lot is that he keeps you informed as to the status of your order.

Does anyone know of any sites that sell F1 detail sets, etc. that isn't out of stock of everything like www.scaleracecars.com? I found some very nice sets there, but they are all out of stock.

I should get the studio 27 decals for my T4 in the mail this week, so I'll be right to go on the 17th. The kit is 20 years old and the decals are very yellow. Can't wait to start this build.

Hmmm... As for Kimi, he had some bad luck, but he made some stupid decisions. To name one: why on earth, knowing that your engin is vulnerable and you're on the first weekend of a new engin do you go and pop in the fastest lap of the race on the final lap whilst under no pressure (Silverstone)? In that way, I think Alonso managed his year much better. And no, I actually quite like Kimi as a driver.

Anyways, back to the FW07. Ralph, if that is what tickles your fancy, go for it. Had a look at my kit this morning and there is no problems. You just have to remember that this is not the latest kit Tamiya manufactured, so it might not be such an effortless fly-together build. But it looks very good to me. Oh, and I don't think the Good Year decals are included. If you can handpaint it better than I think I can, go for it, otherwise try and order some from F1 Specialties while you're at it. I forgot to - and now hope I have some spares...

OK I'm in as well, having just found the GB. I'll do either a 1/43rd (I've got about 30 in the cupboard to choose from but maybe a 6-wheeler or the the McLaren 2 seater) or the Brabham fan car using a transkit on the Tamiya base or maybe the Tamiya 1/20th Ligier box stock, perhaps Tamiya's 1/12th Renault or ....... I'll definately need the 4 months and won't be starting until I've finished the rally GB which has definately stalled.

Ralph the Tamiya Williams is an good kit with good moulded detail although a little simplistic in parts. Well worth having. I'm part way through converting it to the following year's car which ran without a front wing on a couple of events and a different rear wing.

Pingtang the T4 is fabulous to build and Mkhoot the M23 is also fabulous and I reckon the M23 was one of the best looking F1 cars ever. I actually preferred building those earlier Tamiya 1/12ths to their later Williams, Ferrari and McLaren.

The McLaren M23 above brings back memories-I built that one after my freshman year in college (1975). Then built the Tyrell 1/12th and dropped out of the hobby for almost 30 years.....

Changing my mind regarding my build-going to wait until I see what Hobby Lobby has-coupon for 40% off. If nothing of interest, then it's time to web surf.

btw-what is a good web site for accessory type items-PE, belts, decals for auto type builds-most all of my recent builds have been WW II aircraft. Gonna be tough not to weather this build..... Wink [;)]

McLaren over took Renault with a 1-2 finish by Montoya and Raikkonen! Congrats! Take home the cup!

I have decided to not purchase and use the Lion Roar PE set. The kit is good enough on its own.

Tamiya F1 kits are well engineered like all Tamiya kits and have great fit and no flash. I'm a little dissappointed by the pin hole marks on my BMW FW24, but most won't be visible unless under a close inspection.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! If one of you discovers another team that would be interesting, otherwise I'll probably go with the Tamiya Williams kit. SeaBee, if you get a chance to look at the kit and provide some quick thoughts on how well engineered it is that would be great. I'm assuming that Tamiya generally puts out kits with excellent fit, but it would be nice to know if this one is an exception.

If you wanted to do a Niki Lauda car, you could do the Brabham BT46 that he drove in 1978. Tamiya have a 1/20 scale kit of that car too. But you are probably more interested in doing a Saudia branded car......

I've got a feeling there was another team that carried Saudia branding either before or after their association with Williams. I'll do some research......

Ralph, you are correct in your research. Niki Lauda never drove for Williams (who was the team sponsored by Saudia). I presume you are more interested in building that car than the Lauda cars (Ferrari's in the 70's and McLarens in his 80's return to F1)

Coinsidentally, I ordered that kit from F1 Specialties just a few weeks ago. So that is one option. (I had a very pleasant experience with them, btw) AMD also has resin kits of FW07's and FW08's. Much more expensive, though.

From (my own ageing) memory, there are more than one decal option on Tamiya's FW07. Ah, yes, here's the decal sheet from the above-mentioned page:

Thanks - I'll do that. A little research has convinced me that my aging memory is faulty, as Niki Lauda never drove for Saudia, as far as I can tell. Perhaps I was conflating the fact that Saudia had sponsored a car and the recollection of Lauda's horrible crash and assuming that they were more related than that.

I know very little about F1 racing, but do recall Nikki Lauda (sp?) when he raced for Team Saudia in the 1970s. My dad worked for Saudia (the Saudi Arabian national ariline) at the time and we were all surprised when they decided to spend some of the petrodollars sponsoring one of the top racers of the time.

So, does anybody know if there are models and/or AM decals for any of the cars he drove? I might be interested in putting together one of them as a present for him, since he already has a collection of the airplanes from the era.

I got my 312T4 today so I'm good to go. The Tamiya kit looks awesome in the box. I might have to do more of these big scale cars in the future. All the detail looks great, and the extra detailing wires and mesh screens for the intake trumpets look very handy too. I also got a few sheets of bare metal foil to cover the chassis in. Looking forward to starting it.......

So far, there are 7 participants in this group build. Sounds like a pretty good number, but I think we can attract more. F1 car kits are fun to build and can really highten your modeling skills from detail painting, assembly of small parts, nice looking glossy paint jobs, and decaling. You don't have to be a model car builder to build a F1 car.
