Bandai makes a transforming kit of a VF-19 Kai that can be found here: Hobby Link Japan

It's different that that YF-19A you found, but it's the same scale, transforms and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. But it will take about a month from when you order it to arrive at your doorstep.

it's a pre-made toy but those pictures kept on making me think they are custom made from model kits...  don't know where to find those but they certainly look nice.

that koenig monster in fighter mode looks something that came out of gundam!!!

I was about to finish up my P-51 and F-15 project when my air compressor went out.  I am on hold on my VF project until I get a new compressor.

Pix of my VF-1S build from this past weekend:

Forward fuselage with pre-shading of the panel lines:

Wings with preshading complete

Fuselage with preshading (and a couple of oops that need to be fixed) and the beaver-tail/backpack. I'll finish the tails, attach them to the beaver tail and weather that subaseembly before I attach it to the rest of the kit.

Exploded view of assembly. Leg/Nacelle construction also started yesterday, but i need to paint the engine components (fans, etc) before I can make the final assembly

VF-0S Fuselage pre-shading complete, top white coat in-progress

I got some decalling done too on the VF-1S wings, but haven't taken any pix yet. Should get them shot tonight and posted

LTS....er, I mean, Mud, nice work. I've heard of that variant but had never seen it before. Looks good on the base. That was a resin kit? How do you support it with the acrylic rod? Did you have to put a hole in the back of the battroid?

The acrylic rod is supporting the battroid. There is actually a "T" at the end of the acrylic rod... and it fits in a small space behind the main body and before the wings. It is not the best job of mounting it, but I wanted to move on to my next project! You know how that is.

The variant is an odd one. I wanted to start with this Wave kit, so I'd have some practice by the time I got to the Wave YF-19, VF-22S, and the normal VF-11 Thunderbolt.

By the way, I have that recast of the Cat's Eye... needs a lot of work, but I think it'll be my next Macross build.

Can I add a VF-1S to my mix? Since I'm already going to build Roy Focker's VF-0S, I thought it would be cool to have his VF-1S to display side-by-side

How would you rate gundamstoreandmore.com as a retailer? How is their turnaround time, customer service, etc.?

I normally tend to shy away from gloss for most of my kits.

IMHO, flat to a semi-gloss works best with gloss used only for a few selected areas.

The way I see it too many people try to reproduce a 1:1 finish on scale kits that ends making them look unrealistic and or toyish.

I thought gloss was a pretty good standard for any scale.

If you want a base for your Valkkyries to be displayed on, here you go:

Popping in for a general question here.  Should the clear canopy be finished in Satin or Gloss for that scaled shine?

So is the box sceme really supposed to be that dark a yellow, thevinman? I tried mixing radome tan and white in Model Master colors in a 50/50 mix. It looked way too dark for me, so I added more white and wound up with a color almost identical to the sprue color. I thought it was supposed to be a more "off-white" color.

Keep in mind that my current digital camera sometimes makes images a little darker than they really look. (my G2 is in the shop right now)
That being said, it's all in the eye of the beholder...since there is no "real" YF-19 to get reference photos of. It's an animation so there really is not any "supposed to be" color. I suggest you make it whatever shade of white / radome you think looks most like the box model, the box art, the macross movie, your imagination, whatever...etc. Pick one and go with it.

On the other hand...

What do you think now?

...make a gloss black bunny version, that would be cool!
