Glamorous Glen II is starting to come along.  Now in the "pick and shovel" phase of masking the invasion stripes.

The Tamiya kit is wonderful.  The detail of the panel linel and surface detail is great!  After working on Airfix kits for the OOTB Build and a vac form a shake and bake is nice!

It's a...BOY!

As some may have noticed, I haven't been around lately because on May 22 my wife went into labour and at 1:15am on May 23, little Matthew Nicholas Boutin was born.  So here's a little picture of him a few days after we got home.  The last week has been really crazy so to all the people I am in GB's with, all bets or off as to whether or not I'll finish them in time.  If you want to see more pics, you can go to: http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i107/mattapriljay/

I'm finally rolling on this one!!!

Started work on the Nieuport 11 of Guynemer this afternoon, will start painting the pit tomorrow.

I'm thinking this won't take too long, as the sprues are already practically empty, with everything cleaned up awaiting paint and assembly.

Progress Update

The pit is painted, which must be a record for, an entire pit built and painted in 24 hours!

Here's the pic to prove it.

The wood effect is a dilute application of Gunze Mud acrylic over a base of Gunze Radome, which doubles as a clear doped linen.

I ended up building the gun and mounting brackets using brass wire along with some of the kit parts, and a lot of super glue. Now I know it will all fit after the paintwork is complete.

Tomorrow should see the fuselage halves closed up. The white styrene strip on the port fuselage half is to rectify a slight step shown up with trial fittings.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement.  I'm sure you will understand if my presence here is diminished for a while.  I don't see myself doing much modeling for the next little while.

Bob, the wood effect is ridiculously easy to acheive, but gald you like it all the same.

Jay, like I said over on the BOAGB, don't worry about it.

Progress Update

Fuselage is together, wings are on, and the blue of Guynemer's plane has been applied. This has to be the fastest build I've ever done.

Top coat has showed up a few pin holess, which the super glue didn't fill, so I've ordered some Mr.Surfacer to see how that works.

In the mean time I've started on the Nieuport 17.

Pics to follow.

Well my invasion stripes are painted.  Now for the touch up with the brush.  No matter how dilligent I am in the application of masks there is always bleed through.  This time is black onto white. Censored [censored]!

I should have some photos up within the next week or so...

Joe, that sucks.

Have you tried burnishing the tape down with a toothpick?

As promised a quick pick of the Nieuport 11 to date.

The pin holes are just forward of the cockpit, invisible in the pic, but very noticeable on the gloss blue.

The Nieuport 17 is in the back ground, the fuselage is just held together by the engine cowl.

Karl looks good keep up the good work.

Joe I second Karl's coment that sucks!!! looking fwd to some pics though.

I seriously screwed up the paint job on my spit.  I may have to scrap it.  Can anybody tell me, can you strip MM enamels if so, how any  hints would be greatly appreciated.  I started work on a back up build I found an Italeri Mk Vb in my stash so all is not lost (until its time to paint it anyway).

Cheers

Bear-soaking the entire assembly in Castrol's Super Clean should work. I've also shot Windex thru my airbrush at a model done in acrylic, so I'm wondering if shooting Super Clean would have the same effect (in case you didn't want to soak the entire thing)....just a thought....

Marc, sorry to hear of your troubles. is there any way you could spray a light grey primer over everything and start again? or is it much worse that a simple cover up won't work.

Karl, your build is looking very nice. I'll be very interested in seeing how you do the rigging, I'm still trying to find the 'best' technique in doing this.

Bob Thanks for the tip I'll look for some when I go to Wally World this week.  Even though it is a cheep airfix kit I would like to save it.

Jay I really screwed it up, repriming it wont help unfortunately,  striping the paint off is the only alternative.  I hate learning experiancesSmile [:)]  So how is fatherhood treating you so far, I trurst your wife and the little one are doing well.

Cheers

Waikong, I was planning on using stretched sprue, as I don't fancy the idea using monofilament, and tying all those little knots. That and the thought of filling all those little holes in my beautiful paintwork and touching them in........Sad [:(]

Bob, these Eduard kits are a great intro to WW1 AC, as they are very detailed, but also very quick to build.

Yuppers, little Matthew is doing well and gaining weight, his birth weight was 7lbs and after two weeks he is up to 7 lbs 14 oz.  Since all babies lose some weight just after birth, he has gained over a pound since birth!  right on schedule!   Momma is also doing better with breast feeding, she was getting stressed out last week but things are looking up for them, each day is a new learning experience!

I am really itching to get back into my Spitfire! it's just with grandparents over all the time I feel I shouldn't go down to the basement and play with the models.  Besides, I want to spend time with my boy!  I just love asking him "who's your daddy!".  Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

The little blue Nieuport 11 is ready for decals, I'll post pics later, while the fuselage and lower wing are together on the 17.

All the struts and engines etc, are already painted, so I'm hoping to wrap these two up next weekend.

Whoo hoo! I was able to get an hour last night to play with the plastic!Tongue [:P]  While mom and son were sleeping I was painting the cockpit pieces.

Now, I just have to add a wash to accent shadows and then I can glue the CP together, install it and close up the fuselage halves!  WOW does the ultracast seat look fabulous!Shock [:O] No idea when I'll get around to it again, I guess I gotta appreciate the little times I do get.  It's been over three weeks since I last touched my models, sure feels good!Big Smile [:D]

BTW congrats to our friends from down under in their victory over Japan in the World Cup!  I have been watching bits of ever game so far.  I am really enjoying the matches!

Jay,

Great deal on the grandparents coming in to lend a hand!  I remember when my mom and mom-in-law came down when my son was born.  Fantastic!  My wife could truly relax.  One problem though, we were convinced that as soon as the last one here left the boy would start to cry and not stop until well into his teens...Sad [:(]  Never happened but wacky stuff like that races through your mind as a parent, and it gets wackier the older they get too!

I am almost finished hand painting the clean up on my 'stang's invasion stripes.  Slow going when you are correcting 1mm errors!  I can not say enough about Tamiya, the kit the masking tape and the paint.

The kit went together by just a simple thought.  The masking tape is easy to use, I have the 10mm and 6mm size.  White paint is one of my Achilles heels...the Tamiya flat white was wonderful!  Covered in two sprays and took very little thinning.  Not so great for brushing but with some air behind it I figure it is the deal for me.

I have said this a hundered times but this weekend is it to finish her...I plan to fully take advantage of Father's Day!  No games to coach or play in (retired for good now, shoulder will need surgery after all) No major projects around the house and the Honeydo is done!
