Thanks for the comments guys!

Joe - Yep, that's Tamiya's 1/72.  Very nice, inexpensive kit.

I just MIGHT do Mirage Hobby's P.11c as Wladyslaw Gnys' one, I got a pic off the internet of it, though for some reason it won't paste. Once you pics of the model popping up here, count me in!!(Sorry for my lateness, I haven't been on the forums for a while!!)

Hi all thanks for the well wishes.  I'm just back to work today the Bronchitis & cold got worse and I've spent the last couple of weeks horizontal (Dave your right I picked a great time to be sick the world cup has been great GO FRANCE).  So much to catch up.

Karl & Tryingintomodel great work on your builds

Bob & Jay great progress on your builds

Chris I hope your back is feeling better.

On the progress side not much,  assembled the fuselage and started filling in the seems strangely the Airfix Spit I scraped went together a lot better the the Italeri Spit  I'm working on now.  Thats it for now.

Cheers

Trying to Model, nice job on the 'stang, looks bigger than 1/72.

Chris, hope the ribs heal quickly.

Picked up the Nieuport 17 again today, while I await parts for BoB GB Do 24.

All the seams have been given a coat of Mr Surfacer, followed by sanding and polishing, as this machine will have a silver dope finish.

Still a few more things to do before I start painting, but it should enter the paint shop tomorrow after a thorough clean up.

I'll be using Gunze buffable metalics, so first up will be a coat of flat black, followed by a coat of Future then the metalic. For some reason applying the metalics over the Future and black base, leads to them adhering better than if spayed straight onto bare plastic.

On 12 October 1944 Lt. Chuck Yeager was flying escort on a mission to Bremen.  By the time it was all over he received official credit for 5 that day.

Here is my submission attempting to replicate his mount:

It is the Tamiya 1/72 kit.  I used Polly Scale paint along with a silver pencil and washes for weathering (even though they can not really be picked out in the photo).  Decals are Eagle Strike along with some spares. The invasion stripes are done by hand.  When painting those I tried to keep in mind that they were painted with everything from airbrushes to brooms.

Thanks for the look and all criticisms are welcome.

Karl-looks good.  I must do a WWI subject one of these days.

Joe-very nice job on Yeager's Mustang.  I'm still not brave enough to go the 1/72nd route.

Joe - Nice job on Yeager's Mustang!

Karl - Looking good.  I have a Sopwith Camel F.1 in 1/32 that I would like to attempt one of these days.  Not quite brave enough yet though.  Lot's of string and I haven't figured out how to paint decent wood yet.

Thanks to everyone...

I mentioned over on the BoB thread that I have been in a sort of funk.  This project sort of wore me down.  The invasion stripe masking, painting and inevtible touch up, fine weathering with a silver pencil and the "striped" prop hub...wow....

Now I am raring to go!

By the way I do have the 1/72 Loon Models resin conversion to make a P51D-5 model (sans fin fillet).  I was in the throes of prepping it when I got the heebie jeebies and decided to work the kit fuselage instead...If any one is interested in trading for it drop me a line and we will work a deal.

Hey all, I've been really slow lately but I'll try to get to my Spitfire soon.  Dave23 and rudy_102 I'll add yo tot the front page.

So for my birthday on Saturday I got a respectable haul.  I got a 1:72 Tornado Gr.Mk4.  I don't normally build jets but it came from my nephew so I'll build it.  And with my B-day money, I also picked up a Dragon T-34 Tank, my first tank ever, I am so excited!  I also decided to try my hand at NMF so I picked up the Revell P-51D and P-38 to practice on.  Big Smile [:D]

rudy_102, I can't seem to find info on how many aircraft Wladyslaw Gnys shot down? I did several google searches, lots of info on him but none listed his victories.

rudy_102 Iv'e done some checking as well on Wladyslaw Gnys and have come up with 5 victories for him.  Check out http://users.accesscomm.ca/magnusfamily/ww2pol.htm and see what you think.

Jay happy birthday Party [party].  Did you get that giant 1/16 T-34 or the more respectable sized 1/35?

Joe lovely looking job on the P-51 and the invasion stripes look great, nice job Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

Progress on the P-47 has picked up again while I'm taking a little break from my Hurricane, P-40 & Do 335.  I know this is taking a while but the cockpit is nearly done now so I shouldn't be that far away from the paint shop.

Darson, neither, I went for braile scale! Big Smile [:D]

The 1:72 T-34 76 Mod 1942 is a very nice 1:72 kit, I bought it then went looking for some reviews and two I read on Armorama were very favouable.Thumbs Up [tup]  As, I said I am so stoked about it as I've never done a tank before and I just love the white paint schemes of the Russian tanks (guess which one I want to do?).

Joe, I should update the front page for you, good job!. While I'm at it, has anyone else finished that I haven't seen yet?

Karl, nice nieuport 11, I forgot to say that.  JoeRugby, excellent work on Yeager's P-51 and great start on your P-47 Dave23.

I am piddling around on the 'puter at home so I thought I'd take a moment to check everybodies stuff out since work has blocked a lot of stuff.  So here's my spitfire as of two weeks ago, I've been going steady on my canso for the BofA GB lately so no progress on this one.

Dave & Jay-Nice work.

I managed to get the P-51A painted yesterday.  Tried the faded paint technique from an old FSM.  Didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but still I'm happy with it.  I just need more practice with my airbrush skills.

Jay, Dave & Bob excellent looking builds from all of you so far.

Bob I think the faded effect turned out quite nicely, I think subtle is a lot better than overdone.

Cheers

Thanks Rick & Darren.  I think I'll get the look I'm after with the addition of an oil wash and/or pastels.

Bob,

Looks good. What method did you use for the faded look?  I have tried the one with an artist stump and pastels, need practice though.  I am certainly putting an Allison engined 'Stang on my wish list.

I finally have something to post on this one...it's Tamiya's Wildcat.  I have a little gap in the wing roots to fill but otherwise it's going together like a dream.  I did paint the undersides yesterday...

I can only seem to find photos of Thach's Wildcat around the time of Midway though-- before he was an ace.  I need to figure out what I am doing for his markings....

JoeRugby-I used the method outlined in the May 2005 FSM (I think)-only I used MM acrylic (they used Tamiya).  First step is a 50/50 mix of Olive Drab & Dark Yellow (Insigna Yellow).  I may have cheated on the ratio though.  Then a straight yellow to the panels you want faded (again, I toned down the yellow with a bit of OD), then a straight shot of OD for the darkened areas.  Lastly, (hopefully, you don't do like I did and not mix enough of step 1 & save it or write down the ratio Banged Head [banghead]) and overspray the entire plane.  This is more of a trail & error for me-I have a P-38 & a B-25 that I'm considering building (one of the two) for your South Pacific GB and I'm wanting to get the heavy weathered look.  I think that with some practice, I'll be happy with this method.

Mike-The Wildcat looks good-that kit is one of my favorites.

Thanks all...

Lots to go still...and I think I may have to lighten up the underneath of this one as my gray seems too dark...
