Looking forward to seeing some pics of that Spitfire Bear, I must admit I've got a bit of a thing for Spits

Now for a question, how come Mrs Bear goes out and does the shopping but doesn't leave you with a list of mind numbing household jobs that's longer than your arm, because that's sure what happens in my house.  My only chance to model is after the entire tribe has gone to bed. Sad [:(]

Now that the Dora's are off the bench I can start this one!  I'll have to see if I can fit some painting in this week.  If I can get the pit together next week I'll be able to show you something!Tongue [:P]

I've slowed down as well-- haven't even started Thatch's Wildcat yet!  I am soon to be finishing my Atlantic Build SBD and Carrier GB Hellcat-- and in the midst of all this, we spent the weekend painting the new house-- lots to be done before we move in in May-- so I may wait until then to start this one...

I was looking over my Trumpeter 1/32 P-40B (Hawk IIA) and man, it's a really nice kit!  Has some photo etch, lots of detail, and rivets, rivets, rivets!  The engine is pretty much a kit in itself!  I hope to begin construction in another week or so, just as soon as I can wrap up 2 other projects I'm working on at the moment.

Well i guess you could say that i've made a start, all i've done is to study and then study the instuctions some more, excellent details in this eduard Sopwith Triplane and a bucketload of PE witch makes planning the build timeconsuming, but for now i may just make a start on the engine witch has a staggering amount of parts for such a small piece.....

This time thing is a pandemic!  I have only opened the box on my Mustang.  Most of my time has been working with my son on his submission.  That has truly been fun.  He has really done better than 95% on his own.  We hope to have it finished before Sunday evening...will take a break for soccer and a trip to the Air/Space Center at Dulles tomorrow...time to load up on detail photos!

Speaking of which if anyone is looking for something specific let me know, the collection at Udvar Hazy is fantastic!

Hey guys!

Dad and I went to work after we got home from the Air & Space Museum.

We used British Green and British Medium Sea Grey.  The hardest part was masking the stripes.  We have al ot of touch up to do yet.  We have to paint the propellor blades yet.  It is getting close to my favorite part.  Putting on the decals.

Waaahhh! I hate internet blockers!  Sorry termin8tor if don't comment.  The company I work for has blocked a bunch of sites (including photobucket) and I can't see your pic.  I'll try to get on at home later and check it out.

That goes for everyone else.  Please forgive me if I do not comment on your builds.  I am not being rude or pretentious.  I just can't view the pics until I get home and I usually don't go on the internet at home much.  When I get home after working on a computer 8+ hours a day, one of the last things I want to be doing is hopping on the computer for another couple hours.

Looking good. Hope you don't mind my advice, but it looks like your mask is just a dust mask? If so, you really need a respirator type mask to block the harmful fumes, a dust mask will not block those.

Waikong...true it does look like that but it has multiple lawyers in it with activated charcol (I think) layers. They are sold by Lowes and are more or less a one shot deal.

Hey, thanks for the info. Thats really useful, 'cause my particle mask doesn't fit my kids, and I'm always concerned what to put on them if they wanted to learn to use the airbrush. Next time I'm in Lowes, I'll check it out.

I still have my respirator from when I was working at a gas plant in the paint shop painting gas cylinders.they still give me trade in's on my nitrogen cylinder that I use for airbrushing and filling my paintball tank I just wish i could afford the cartridges for the thing there a tad expensive.I guess due to it being an industrial rig

Hobby shops are evil! evil I say, just pure evil! either that or I am just weak...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I stopped in during lunch at the LHS I go to most often and I found out he is moving next month to a bigger place not any further than where he is now (sweet!).  Right now he has a ton of Hasegawa kits on sale, 1:48 Spitfires on for $21, Mustangs for $24, BF-109s for $20, all great deals! and I promised the wife I wouldn't buy anymore until my B-day (in July).Sad [:(]

Anyway, I only went in there needing ocean gray and medium sea gray for my Spitfire.  Then I thought to myself "what else do I need"... big mistake...

Oh yeah, a resin seat might look nice, anything else?...

Deep in the box of resin goodies I also saw a pack of pilot access doors. Hey, I want to open it so that would be good.

Needless to say I could have kept going.  I had to stop, pull out the cash and leave before anything else caught my eye!  I was able to get away with a set of two ultracast seats and two access doors (and my paint).  I also almost bought a vacuform canopy but I thought I've already bought too much.  Besides I didn't by another kit, right?  I made a promise to my wife but that doesn't include the extra details right....Wink [;)]Evil [}:)]

Did I mention, I think I may be addicted to resin seats and vacuform canopies?Big Smile [:D] ( I love this hobby!)

...and so ends this installment of the adventures of Jay and has trips to Uncle Bills Hobby Shop.  Be sure to tune in next week when Jay goes looking for an elusive BoB decal set at a different LHS!Pirate [oX)]

Yeah, I promised my mom I wouldn't buy any more plastic kits.

2 weeks later i have an entirely resin armor kit and a mixed media special hobby firefly. (I agree the mixed media is pushing it a bit, but I thought the resin armor kit was a great loophole...Big Smile [:D])

Jay I'm glad to hear you picked up some Ultracast goodies (even if you didn't mean to), as far as I am concerned they are the best AM resin around for the Spitfire.

My Eduard set for the P-47 arrived yesterday and for once I don't have to remove 90% of the detail from the existing cockpit in order to attach the PE bits and pieces.  About the only major thing that needs to go is the detail on the IP which is this evening’s job.

Cheers

Darren, those Ultracast seats are really nice!  I know I am going to be using more resin seats in the future!

I have the interior green on my cockpit pieces but I'm on a roll with my Canso so until I get the Canso's fuslegae closed up, I'll probably not do more on the Spitfire until then.   Looking forward to seeing the finished pics Termn8tor.

Jay glad to hear that things are going well on the Spit.  I must admit I'm looking forward to some pics of that one because the image in your sig looks extremely cool.

Progress wise on the P-47 I actually had a great long weekend for modeling with lots of progress made on all my current builds.  I have scraped and sanded all the detail I need to from the Thunderbolt pit and painted it Tamiya Deep Green which I think is a good match for the interior color of the P-47.  Now I'll leave it for about 24 hours to cure and then Future the wheels wells and the pit in preparation for a wash.

Question for the group, I was reading online last night about a guy who adds Future to Tamiya paints to give them a glossy finish which allows a wash to go on without having to add a separate clear coat.  Great idea I thought, I'll have to remember that for next time, but can someone tell me what ratio of Future/Paint I should use to get a nice glossy finish?

Cheers

Hey Darren!

I did not use Tamiya, actually Testors Acryll, and added Future to it.  Works real nice!  Check out my Kiwi Corsair for the ANZAC GB.

The ratio was about 70/30 paint to Future.  The Acryll paint is not nearly as thick as the Tamiya so you may have to tweek the ratio somehwhat.

I return from 2 weeks of insanity at work and WOW all this catching up to do, Jay & Karl I saw your builds for the BoG GB SUPER work both of you.

Trmn8tor nice work looking forward to seeing the finished product & Joe nice finish on the corsair.

I did get some work done on my builds despite work & Mrs Bear realising that if Darren has a long todo list Bear should have a long todo listEvil [}:)]

Here are some progress shots of my Spit. I hope you can see the pe detail on the side walls.

Since those pics were taken the wings and fuselage have been assembled and the seems closed and sanded.  I should be ready to start painting this weekend Mrs Bear permittingSmile [:)]

A question to all, what color was the tail band on the spifires circa 41-42 my references are confusing and I'm confused a paint ref would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Good job Marc, as for the tail band I thought they were sky.

Well my "to do" list is getting longer what with spring here and yard work needing to get done. I have a feeling my modeling time will get pushed to the back burner.Sad [:(]
