Is it possible to join this GB? I have a Matchbox 1/76 Jagdpanther assembled and basecoated. Just waiting for my airbrush parts to arrive (and figuring out how to use it).

I'm going to do the Jagdpanther in the XVIII SS Freiwilligen Panzer Grenadier Division Berlin 1945 version, with the aim of making it look like it's done some city fighting.

Edit: Oops, sorry, misread the scale, 1/72. Guess I'm a bit off... Sign - Oops [#oops]

NikToo,

76th...72nd...they are all pretty much the same.

I'd say bring it in.

Wulff,

Thanks man...that is cannon.  The tank still looks big next to my 48th scale Stug IIIb.

Osher,

Looks good.  You are making me look at my Attack Models kit now.

Grant: what can I say... that is one big gun!!!!!!!

Osher: The dirtier the better when it comes to weathering. Looking good so far!

No progress from me yet but I'm steadily working through the pile on my workbench so it won't be too long.

So here is my Stug IV (early).  It was a lot of fun, and I purchased the Jagdpanther L48 (early) yesterday because of it.  Like the Panther II, I'll probably decal the periscopes and do a little more weathering before the next show in May.

Both my Panther II and the Stug IV competed in a show yesterday in the OOB Small Scale division with 3 other kits (all 48th scale Tamiya kits).  The competitors were a cast sherman, an M10, and a panther.

My Stug took 1st place.  The other 4 kits were disqualified.  My buddy brought the sherman and the M10 and asked why.  There was no answer.  We all brought directions (unlike last year when I forgot to put them out Dead [xx(]).  Strange stuff.  This is why I like model shows...you don't know what is going to happen in judging.

Er, if you like a challenge!  Let's see, the detailing is not so good as the Revell (although reasonable), and the wheels are solid, when the Revell are open (as they should be).  Also, some minor fit problems (but the Revell might have that too).  Oh yes, and it's more expensive than the Revell too!

However, a good modeller (and that doesn't include me, I hide a lot to not show the screw-ups), could make a good model out of it.

For weathering I use Mig Pigments.  In this instance, light dust and earth.  First some dust, then some earth smeared on.  Then the whole lot washed off with water, then back on again.  I learnt this technique the hard way!  However, it looks OK.  For the tracks, I painted it silver, then painted it brown, smeared it off again, then on with Mig Pigments rust.  The silver will appear a bit, but especially where it's worn.  Oh yes, and a black 'wash', using some ear-buds (q-tips), rubbed over bits.

At my LHS they laugh at me for nearly always chosing more difficult kits.  They congraulated me for chosing Accurate Minatures last time!  I agree though, tanks always look dirty, except on parade.  Even training tanks get dirty (and then us poor tankies are forced to clean them as punishment for even breathing it seems!)

Hi everyone.  Its been a while.

I've been looking at a few boxes of kits lately, and I'll be starting the Hasegawa Panzer IV F2 soon with an aftermarket gun (as soon as the barrel is delivered).  Its an easy kit with a nice add-on barrel.

Does anyone make Zimmerit for the Dragon kits that do not come with it in advance?

Osher,

How the progress on your kit coming?

Hi Grant,

everything has stopped, as I'm hoping to move home in around a fortnight.  At the moment, just busy packing, and chucking out stuff.  However, that stage is almost completed, and one of the models left for me to play with whilst waiting for the move is the 1/72 Panzer III.  Fingers crossed, back into modelling in the next few days!  No pictures though, yep the camera is packed!  Also, using a spare laptop, so no card slots either, for the camera.

Brews, the time frame for this build as listed on the first page is:

"Starts January 3rd, 2006 and ends January 3rd, 2007."

So, you've still got lots of time. Jump right in my friend, the water's warm!

I myself will most likely be starting another project for this one: Hasegawa's 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer IV L48. I may even have more after that but I don't know for sure yet.

Grant, I've heard of several different companies that make aftermarket zimm but the one most recommended by others was Cavalier. It was the most realistic while being the easiest to apply. I can't remember who carries it but possibly Squadron is one company that might.

Good luck in your search.

I have three that I've just dug out from my model room:

  • Hasegawa SdKfz 162 Jagdpanzer IV L/48 "Late Version"
  • Matchbox (Monogram?) Sturmgeschuetz IV
  • Hasegawa 37mm Flakpanzer IV "Ostwind"

I guess everyone already knows this, but I started cutting some pieces of the Hasegawa Ostwind today, and noticed a sinister feature, that seems to be common to all the Hase Panzer IVs ... the rearmost return roller is colinear with the others, instead of being located a little further "south".

I've razorsawn off the offending return rollers, and trimmed the flanges adjacent to the bogie mountings, so that they taper properly. I also bought a bunch of 1:72 armour yesterday, mainly Dragon, but included the Revell PzKw IVJ.

I found an article on the Hasegawa Wirbelwind in an Osprey Modelling "Modelling the Panzer IV in 1/72 scale" which I'll use for upgrading the Ostwind. The turret is too thick, so will be scratchbuilt.

You have a model room?  I thought that I was the only one.  How many Hasegawa 1/72 kits do you have in there?

Enjoy the builds.  I look forward to seeing the Ostwind.  I sent mine to Baghdad, but if yours goes well, I'll get another one.

Presuming you're only interested in military kits:

Churchill Mk I, Crusader Mk III, M3 Grant, Humber Mk II, M2 155mm Long Tom (Ok, it's artillery, but it's not a plane!), M4A3E8, Mercedes-Benz G4W31, Stuart, Daimler Mk II and M3 Lee.

But I just bought a bunch of Dragon kits <G>.

What a good idea! Only most of mine are already built in my model room. Wanna see?

Go here:

All those pics on the first and second pages are my model room. And no, there are no repeat pics, only overlaps.

Now, time to go add more to the shelves.....

Oh...you meant a built model room.  Nice.

To all,

I'll be starting a Panzer IV F2 for the vacation build (as a #2 kit), and I'll also show it off over here.

Thanks. I can't help it. I like to build all mine! Now, since the Vacation Build hadn't started yet, and this one is still going on, I'm adding these to this build. I started on two more kits; one Dragon, one Hasegawa. These were easy to assemble. This Hasegawa 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer IV L48 was 'tossed' together in about an hour and a half or so:

That's when I threw some paint on the lower hull and set it aside to dry. The upper hull is only test-fit on to show how it will look. Next was my Dragon 1/72 scale Tiger I Late with Zimmerit.. Yeah, gotta love these kits with the Zimmerit already molded on!  Here it is after another hour or so:

The tracks on this one are too short so I'll have to come up with something to do about that. I didn't attach this upper hull yet either. The nice thing  about this kit is this comes with decals for Wittman's Last Ride, so that is how I'm going to build it.

That's what I got for this so far, I'll keep you posted on my progress!

I'll be doing one German and one American Armor piece for the Vacation Build.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Nice work.  You make me want to build more stuff.

How good is that Tiger from Dragon.  Aside from the PE and the zim, how does it stack up against the Hasegawa Tigers?

Grant, this stacks up much better against the Hasegawa Tigers. This model practically fell together. Everything fits well, and the assembly was so fast and easy, I had to stop and look at the directions several times to see if I forgot anything. The detail is crisper and the proportions look more like a Tiger I. The only drawback is that the tracks are too short. Unfortunately, there are no skirts to hide the joint under either, so I'll have to figured something out. I am loving this model. I'll certainly be getting other Tiger I variants from Dragon to fill out my collection!

Yeah Duke I had the same problem with the tracks on my first DML panther I built ( The one with the diecast hull ) but as you said skirts hid the problem well. surprisingly I did not have the same problem with the plastic hull kits Confused [%-)] yet both hulls measure the same as did the tracks Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)] GO FIGURE? But your latest offerings are lookin good Big Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
