Well Joe...went to the LHS....no  Mig 15's,  no P80's,  no 707's,  so I picked up another 262 so I guess I'm back to plan A. I don't have any markings yet, but looking for something interesting. At least I can get started. I haven't built one of these yet, but it looks like a gem in the box. There's some pretty sweet Luftwaffe camo schemes available.

Cheers.....Jerry

Ditto on the start of my FR-1. The N-1M is still occupying the workbench and I'll probably get it done this coming weekend. Just the props, pitot tube, and a nice glossy Future finish to seal the N-1M up and the Fireball is on stage. There's yellow everywhere... it ain't a pretty sight.

Thanks Rick.  This old FROG kit is strange.  It actually fits fairly well, with no filler for the top of the fuselage, and just a smidgen on the bottom.  The thing is, the plastic used is really tough, making sanding a wee bit difficult.  Naturally, being raised panel lines, I'm losing some detail here and there.  As re-scribing an entire aircraft is not my thing, there are some blank bits.  Oh well, can't be helped.  Interior is...a seat!  The base is from two inserts, which means a gap, and not one to get into easily.  The clear bit is the usual USSR way, that is, cloudy.  I don't think even Klear will improve that.

Picked up a cheap 2nd hand Condor He 178 V1.  Now that really really is a first jet!  As I'm moving house in the next fortnight or so, not sure if can include in this GB

Osher,

Looking good, the flash was on the kit, the kit in the box, then it is okay!

Desdinova,

Welcome to you and the F84E.  This was a great example of why GB are cool.  I never knew the first Jet to Korea was the Thunderjet...

Still no Vampire for me...I am holding on till my son (7yrs. old) is finshed with his first build I am helping him with...should be starting on Monday night.

April 1, 2006 and once again officially 2 GB's behind shedule.  I may push the BoA build back a bit and push this one up.

Have been spending time playing with my new website and I come back to find that i am not just a few posts behind in my reading... but a few PAGES in some thread.  I may never get to build a model againBoohoo [BH]

Advantages of a 1970's FROG kit, and being 5 hours ahead of New York, is that you can be half finished in a model, before others have started.  I know it's not a race, or a mad GB, but anyway, here are some progress pics.  Next step is plenty of lovely sanding... (one small change I made was to use the masses of flash to block up the fuselage, to seeing right through it.  I mean, it's still OOB, no?)

Desdinova & Joe I do believe that the F84 was the First jet produced by Republic aircraft as well as one of the first jets sent to Korea

Hey Joe if I finnish my Meteor before the deadline I may do a F-100 Super Sabre if I remember it was the first american jet to fly a sustained airspeed of MACH 1 in level flight

Yahoo!  Ready or not kick off is almost upon us!  No kit in the post today, no problem though!  Looking forward to seeing everyones work!

Hey there Desdinova...love to have you join our merry bunch...F84E.  Was one of the "Firsts" but forgive me, I am not sure what made it a specific first.  My early jet history is a bot weak, hence the Group Build.

Just over 2 hours for me until start time (London, England).  Thought I'd show the kit I'm preparing to build.  As you can see, not much to it!  It's the ex-FROG kit, now built in Russia.  Or rather, USSR, as it says on the little plastic plaque projection.

It's not the most accurate kit either, but there is no accurate kit of this aircraft, the first allied jet.  Loads of flash of course, but one guesses that that moulds haven't been kept in the best condition either.

Here's the box.  Seems that this kit is now being marketed by Chematic of Poland

Fiber optics in a P61---interesting, should be cool.

The start date is tomorrow, or anytime after tomorrow...looking forward to getting going.

As soon as I finish my Beaufighter and N1-M, the 1/48 PBM Mariner will be on my Current and Subsequent Projects list. The timing will be interesting for the resin group build... I'm planning on incorporating fiber optics on my P-61B... that'll be a challenge of a build.

Finally an excuse to build one of my Collect-Aire kits or other resin kits. The 1/48 scale PBM Mariner from Pend Orielle Models is looking like a strong candidate.

Interesting you mention a Mariner, I think it qualifies!  Hint:  "Thin Red Line".  2nd Hint:  Start date will be August 7.  This one is going to go for a year, so get the "extras" out!

Enough of that...back to this one...hey Jerry, have you got something yet? Whatever it is I am sure it will be A grade work!

My Vampire has not yet shown up...bit disappointing...everyone else is set and ready...now hours away from the start...

MMMmmmm.....Air Force One. I'll have to think about that one. At least that would be different. I wonder who makes a decent 707 kit?  It's too bad I've already completed my A37. I could have used VNAF markings. I'm pretty sure the Dragonfly was their first jet. The Mig sounds interesting. Aaaaaaahhhhhh......I'll come up with something.

Okay...it is First Jets...I know this may go against your grain, but...how about

the first Air Force One jet...I think it was a 707.  There are some AM decals sets out there, check out www.modelingmadness.com on decals review.

The other suggestion is a P80.  With a MiG or P80 and the right application of national specific decals I don't think you could go wrong.  How about a Mexican Air Force bird, I think they first used the Shooting Star.

How about everyone else?  What suggestions do you have for Jerry?  Any thing he does will be great so don't hesitate to jumpo in with a suggestion!

Joe.....I've been flying under the radar lately, but checking in on the chatter from time to time. Here's my problem. I wanted to build a 262, which I have in my stash, but I remembered I purchased a $20. resin detail set to go with it. OOOOPPs!! I could always buy duplicate kit, but I was wondering if you would have any suggestions for an alternate subject that would fit this catagorie. I need decals as well. Any thoughts.

Still brown and orange in Ahiya,

Jerry

Well, I'm not really into jets but I really like that bat faceTongue [:P].  Also I also kind of have a soft spot for the early jets, like the vampire, sabre, mig-15, shooting star.  They seem to have a bit of a throwback to the props where you still had to get on the tail of your enemy and use your guns to take him down. None of that sitting 25 kms away and pressng a button and off goes your missle, and you don't even have to see your enemy!

Cool looking project Jay, didn't know you were into stovepipes.

I am in the same predicament as everyone else as far as a start date goes.  I have this scheduled in for the month of May I believe but I am behind schedule by at least a month so June/July be more likely.  Looking forward to it though.

Marc,

SIR ?!?  Hell I work for a living...call me  His Emminence Smile [:)]

No problem, markings are very subjective considering the nature of the build as well as the rules.  I am doing a Vampire in RNZAF markings..Vampire is Brit, markings are not...no worries.

Jay,

No worries on July...Deadlines, uh more of a guideline any way...the Bat would be awesome!  Could it be masked and painted?

I need a ruling from the moderator.  So… Mr. Rugby, SIR!

I am, as you know, going to build a P-59 as it qualifies for this GB as being the 1st US jet.  And I am building straight OOB, according to the rule.  My question is about markings.

Since I will use markings that do not match the very first ever flying example of the P-59, it could be described as a P-59 in markings other than the original aircraft BUT is a P-59… the 1st US jet.  So…. Will it be such a stretch if I did this in Brit markings since the description will be the same really… a P-59 in markings other than the original aircraft BUT is a P-59… the 1st US jet.

And Happy St. P'Day to all as well.   I heard on the raido today... a local bar is planning on giving everyone green hats, scarves, ties etc... and a shillelagh.  Can you imagine what that will turn into...have everyone drinking green beer til they barf.... and hand them sticks.
