That was cool you were at the same show.  I am a bit jealous, where I live it seems to be on the edge of the world some times.

Yes Rick...I'm going to try to get to Kalamazoo, and it would be a pleasure to meet you. I thought about trying to get an announcement at the show if there were any forum members present. It's hard to put a face on the members we talk to here. But now I've seen the picture with you and Jeff, I'll know who to look for. Swanny has posted some show pics on his site, and I'm in one of them. Unfortunately, it's from ....let's say...an unflattering angle. I entered 6 different catagories and won third with my 1/48 Gekko (multiple engine cat.), and also 1/32 109 trop. It was the only Messerschmitt with the RLM 79 sand scheme. The big gawdy alpine schemed JU52 was also mine. Did you judge any of these catagories? This was my first big contest and I really wasn't expected to win anything. There were some awesome builds on the tables. I feel very fortunate to have won anything.

Same here Jerry.  I missed Matt (Swanny) & a couple of others as well.  Maybe next year we can co-ordinate a meeting spot & time.  Congrats on your hardware BTW.  I served as a judge for aircraft, so didn't enter any of mine. I don't believe in competing when you're also judging, though some do it all the time. What categories did you enter ?  I may have been responsible for your 3rds .  Are you planning on making it to the Kalamazoo Michigan show in September ?  If so, we'll have to plan on hooking up.

DING! Fireball's done!

This is B11 from the VF-66 Firebirds circa 1945. Following excerpt from Squadron's MINI in action FR-1 Fireball: "The squadron was commissioned with the sole intent of getting the Fireball into action against the Japanese Kamikazes as quickly as possible. The war ended; however, before the Fireballs could get into action."

Forgot to put the nose weight in so I've adhered her to the display shelf in the office with some reuseable white putty adhesive (not pictured). I decided to go with the decals from the kit only rather than creating the red 11s on the cowling and tail as some references suggested they were. Stayin' OOTB. It just so happened that a small piece of black bead wire and some monofilament found its way into the box for the antenna assembly. Yeeeahhh. Riiiiight.

That's good to hear. I have the same kit in my stash. Tamiya kits are great when it comes to fit. I almost feel guilty using glue.

Minor update.

Had an hour to spare tonight so I worked on touchups and painting the canopy. The canopy will be glued in place next and a coat of Future will be applied early this weekend. Once the Future has cured, on go the decals and yellow prop tips. Another sealer coat of Future and some minor weathering around the exhausts and she's done.

One oops so far. I forgot to weight the nose so to keep the tail from dragging, I think I'm going to create a small base for her out of a small picture frame (using the technique from last months issue) and CA the front tire down.

Next update should be the finished product.

Besides the fact this needed a bump... some progress to report…finally.  The good news about being busy is how it helps the modeling budget.

The fuselage is done as are the wings.  The wings turned out to be a fair amount of work.  All the ejector pin holes in all the LG parts and gear doors are filled and sanded and some scratched detail have been added to the LG.

Looks like Quag's in the lead. Lookin good. The 262 is temp. on the back burner till I get a 109 done. Should get some paint on by the end of the week.

Glad to hear everyone else is trundling along smoothly.  The rescribing on the Vampire is finished, now comes the polishing, I have decid on a Natural Metal finish (ugh, gulp )

I am trying to figure out how to get this thing to sit on its gear correctly.  There is little to no room up front...

Progress report...  Mom was visiting form Ohio so no work for a couple of days, but she flew out today so back to work on the wings tonight.  The wing tips fit like they are for a completely different aircraft.  Some big time filing and filling needed.  Getting the flaps and ailerons to fit was a task as well.  Wing roots look like they are going to fit pretty tight without much work.

After a few weekends of weddings and family events I got an opportunity to tackle the FR-1 Fireball again. Used Porc-a-fil (a lot like Mr. Surfacer) to fill the cracks and sanded for a couple hours while watching the NFL draft. Thought the Bears should have gone for a TE in the third round, but I digress. Anyway, I sprayed the FR-1 in MM Acryl Dark Sea Blue. Comparing this paint job with my other Navy planes (Hellcat, JRB4, and Bearcat) I found MM Acryl Dark Sea Blue to be quite a lighter shade than MM Enamel Dark Sea Blue. Clearly, I have some touch-up to do, but I'm at the bench again. Should get more done this weekend. It's a nice rainy modeling weekend we got here in the Midwest.
