Since you are using Windows 98, I'm not positive about this, but you should be able to hit F8 as soon as you fire up your computer, like when you see your RAM amount and other info first appear.  It should then give you otptions of how you want to boot up, one of which should be "safe mode".  I'm not sure about the camera thing, but as long as you have the drivers installed for the camera, there should be no problem with it connecting to the computer, I wouldn't think.

Jay, I thought I'd never say this but I'm glad the Oilers won last night. Shock [:O]  With Ottawa down 3-0 they may be the only Canadian team left in the hunt after tonight. Sad [:(]

Okay I posted this in the BofA GB.  I got it working and downloaded the pics. I did a disk defragmentation and that helped a lot.  Last time I did one was before Christmas.  Also the internet connection I use is dial up and the provider had a software that you could download to speed up their dial up connection. It owrks by reading imagefiles and compressing them when displaying them (sort of)  Ever since I put this software on my computer last January, it hasn't been running right.   My wife and I have also decided to go with a highspeed provider now so hopefully that will help with things and I will get rid of the other internet software.

Tom and Darren even though I am on a comnputer all day, I really know nothing about systems.  BTW, I use Win98.  Tom how do you get the camera set up as another drive?  When I plug the camera in I have to turn it on and it tries to automatically connect to the computer.  Recently it would just get hung up on trying to connect.  Can I just map it as a new drive in windows explorer even if the camera hasn't "connected" yet?  Darren, how do I boot it in safemode .

Dave, that's great, I was thinking about whether or not you got them yet while I was watching the Oilers in triple overtime!   Well, actually during the intermissions.

Has any one ever worked with Falcon vacuformed canopies (from NewZealand)?  I can't seem to find the one I want in stores here in Calgary and may need to order it from somewhere else.

Joe you are more than welcome, if you can make some use of some of the stuff I sent than that's enough in the owing department.

JB, OK Tom is right you've come to the right place so now just sit back and relax this won't hurt a bit.  It sounds like you have a corrupted device driver on your system that is playing havoc with your PC.  Have your tried booting the PC in safe mode?  This will tell you if it is device driver or something more serious.  Have a look in Control Panel - Hardware - Device Manager and check for any conflicts that can be fixed up easily.  Failing that the next thing I would do is completely blow away and then re-install the HP image downloading software and see if that resolves the problem.

I'm currently banned from yard work (Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]) after a recent stay in hospital that I had a couple of weeks ago.  Banned from yard work but not from modeling Big Smile [:D], I've been having a ball.  The only bad thing is that I have to go back to work on Monday.

Tom I hear you with Hasegawa and their split tails/ gun ports/ fuselages I had fits with my P-40 I the Aussie GB trying not to loose too much detail with sanding and sill achieve a decent join.

Cheers

tho9900 - Is there any way you could take a picture of the kit and the parts you are talking about.  I would be interested to see what you are referring to.  Thanks

Well Darren, it is hard to explain exactly.  I will turn on my computer and once it boots up it just freezes, no mouse, no keyboard etc. will work (Angry [:(!]).  Then if it does go okay I plug in my camera and it won't connect to the HP image downloading software (Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]).  Really frustrating and besides I have been very busy for the last week doing yard work and building the shed.Sigh [sigh]  Figuring it out has been low on the list of things to do (and my modeling time has dwindled to zero too!Black Eye [B)]).

Jay - you came to the right place for this... almost all the usual suspects are in the computer field in one spot or another... what OS are you using?  Win98, WinXP, Win2000?  maybe I can help ya get it sorted out... let me know because I can ship what you might need if I have it, to get it fixed...  have you manually tried browsing to the camera via Windows Explorer?  I don't even mess with the software that came with the camera anymore.  when I connect it, it maps like a network drive and I pull the pics straight from there!

ALL - well today was a great day.. my interior detail set and canopy masks for the He-111 arrived so probably by next week I will be building for this one...  The set looks exquisite with the tiny belts and IP for this 1/72 kit... I really am looking forward to diving in to it.  Also it will be the first Hasegawa kit without the split tail and rear fuselage to contend with..  (I love the Hase kits but hate their engineering with the rear half having a separate uppper surfaces that are a pain to mate!!)

That's too bad Jay, hope you get things sorted out with it soon. I'm up to the wazoo in yard work too. On a bright note the decals you sent arrived today safe and sound. Thanks for arranging that for me. :)

I just have one more build to finish and then I figure I'll jump into both the Ju 290 for the Atlantic Gb and my Br 20 for this one. That should keep me busy for a loooooong time.

I've never played that game TryintoModel but thanks for the info, I didn't know that Mk 108 was used on anything but the 262.

Jay I'm glad to hear that the shed worked out fine but what exactly is wrong with your computer?

Well a sort of a bit of progress today as my decals from Aeromaster finally arrived.  Now all I need is for GMW to ship my paint and at least I'll have everything I need to start Smile [:)]

I'm willing to bet that is the MK 108 30mm cannon, and your right, it was used in the Me-262 and also versions of the Bf-109, Fw-190, and several other aircraft.  Mainly used in aircraft assigned for bomber intercept because of it's low velocity, low rate of fire, small amount of allowable ammo, but huge destructive power.  It's not very easy to hit other fighters with it, but if you can it only takes one shot.  In Forgotten Battles/Aces Expansion/Pacific Fighters, I like using the MK 108 in the nose of my favorite plane, the Bf-109G-6/AS (the G-6/AS seems to be the best overall performer of all the 109 version, IMO).

Darren - Giallo is yellow... Verde is green of course (probably pale green) and Marrone is dark red/burgundy... which is why the description in the link I provided earlier describes the CR.42's as "Peacocks amongst Eagles" when compared to the RAF and German A/C flying those days...

I had almost forgotten about the Gladiators...  the amazing thing is much later they were still used in the defense of Malta...  a tribute to an otherwise obsolete plane at the time...

Mike's right, that FSM BoB issue did feature color plates of a BR.20M, a couple of CR.42s and couple of G.50s.  The issue also describes the camo colors they used; the only problem is the descriptions of the colors such as "Giallo mimetico3 with Verde mimetico3 and Marrone mimetico2 mottling on all upper surfaces" mean absolutely nothing to me.

Tom don't forget that the Brits used Gloster Gladiators and Sea Gladiators against Bf-109s in the opening stages of the BoB Shock [:O].  Also, that same issue of FSM also features a nice color plate of a He 111-H3 from KGr 100 if you're interested.

The FSM BoB special published last year had some nice profiles of Italian aircraft involved in the conflict.  Don't know whether it's still available or not but it was a great issue.

If you build 1/72, Italeri just released a very nice CR 42.

Tweets - the CR.42 and G.50bis both saw service out of Belgium against Ramsgate, Felixstowe and Harwich.  So did the BR.20M bomber.  They list the color of the CR.42 camo the day they came over on "parade" but not sure of the scheme, there are a few pics on the page so maybe you can find something..  Here's a link to the history:

http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/falco_bob.htm

The CR.42 would be an interesting submission as a biplane fighter pitted against Spitfires and Hurricanes (and possibly Martlets... of course! Wink [;)])

Thanks Espins1, and Darson,
Im not sure about the cannons setting next to the life-like mechanics,  there is a BK-5 50 mm cannon setting next to the Me-262 in the museum, I got a picture of that if you want to see that.

Still haven't decided on what 109 to build for this one.

Might be something with a 'no challenge' camo scheme, bit of a bummer there, unless I get adventerous and detail the hell out of it.

Been lacking in the motivation department for a while now, hopefully a nice decent 109 build will get me back on track.

Tom which Italian A/C did you mention a while ago??

Yeah they look awsome thanks for posting.  Btw is that one of the cannons from an Me-262 sitting next to those two extremely lifelike mechanics?

Joe, I just posted this in the wrong GB but what the heck.  My good lady wife air mailed your reference CD to you on Monday of last week so it shouldn't be too far away.

Darren thanks!  I had found some but yours were interestingbecause of the 1000kg bombs being loaded for a raid over England.. I might try to pick up the (I think Tamiya makes it) Luftwaffe ground kit which I think has a variety of bombs among other things and model that setup...

Tom I've just sent you an email with some reference shots of an He111 bomb bay, they are not much but they are the best I could come up with.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for some decals for you as well but from the quick search that I made pickings seem to be fairly slim.

Daniel (FeldMarSchall Model) welcome to the build and thanks for the offer of posting your 109 pics.

Cheers
