Happy New Year everyone.

Welcome to the build Leon.

Good to see the progress people have made on their builds.

Mist, I really hope you get your decals soon.

I've just got back from a camping trip and am getting back into the swing of things.

Here are some photo's of the cockpit for my Dad's F-111.

I missed the Christmas deadline, but as he's an airline pilot,  I've got till the middle of January before we catch up for 'our' Christmas.

At the moment I'm having a major issue fitting the wings as with all the cutting that went on the're both warped and twisted in different ways and the wing tips heights vary by about 1 inch. I need to get these in so I can start on the majority of the putty work.

Cheers

Mark

Hey Kenny and Mark, some really nice progress on your builds, glad to see the holidays has not slowed you down too much. I will be back home next week so looking forward to getting back into the A-4.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Still fighting the wings on my thing.

Kenny.

At the moment your Humvee looks like it was parked in Woodridge (Not too nice a suburb in Queensland) overnight. You could make a good Dio with it.

All you need is some 1/35th scale besser blocks for it to sit on and you'd be set.Wink [;)]

I'll keep an eye out in the local classifieds and see if your wheels turn up for sale.

Seriously though, it's looking pretty good.

John,

Your bird looks set for paint.

Is that a Ruffe in the back ground? Looks good.

Have a good day everyone.

Had a win with the wings!

They're in place and I'm ready for putty.

I also managed to get the 2 fuselage halfs together without the massive step that most guys complain about. I've had it myself on another kit I built so thought I'd try making a sleeve for the the two to join on. I din't take any photo's of it though as I wasn't really confident it would be any good. Pity. I'd like to have a photo or two to show others who plan to build the Academy kit.

I've also included some photo's of the intake trunking I've made using Milliput. Academ just had a plastic brace across the fuselage with engine faces on it and it looked pretty poor. I've moved the engines to roughly the right position as well. When I dummy fit the rest of the intake it looks pretty good

Cheers

Thanks Eric, no intrusion at all. I appreciate your comments.

Well guy's I am back from my holidays and it's good to be back. After I get work caught up I will be back to the building, hopefully by the end of the week.

Kenny, I was thinking of ya as I was stuck in traffic on Friday trying to get out of JFK and back to Va. The Hummer is taking shape nicely.

Mark, great job.

Thanks Kenny, John and Steve.

More progress.

The F-111 had the worlds worst intake design and although constantly modified and several re-designs it continued to hamper the F-111 throughout it's service life.

These are the Vortex generators, One of the many 'fixes' that tried to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I've painted the walkways as the decals are really brittle and they're very hard to weather.

I've got the top colours painted tonight.

The family gets together on Sunday for Christmas in January and it's looking like the 111 won't be ready. There is still too much to do. It's a pain though as I'm so close.

Thanks guys.

Mark

I finally have enough work done on my VTANG F-16C to warrant an update:

Here's the current status of my build:
The kit seat with added lead foil straps with wire buckles.
I added a wire "hose" to the oxygen bottle on the side and added the pull ring and emegency release handle to the sides. Also some little bits of rod on either pitot arm.

I used the kit decals on the consoles and panel since I want a fairly simple build. The only additions here are a couple of discs punched out with a Waldron set for the buttons and knobs on the stick and throttle. I have a piece of guitar string to make the G-suit and oxygen lines out of.

Here's the intake after filing, fitting, filling and sanding. And paint. It took a little time but wasn't a real trouble. How come Academy left that bit step on the front edge of the intake bottom piece? I'll mask off the part to remain white before I attach it to the fuselage.

hey guys here are a few more pics of the build. pulled out the cover to an actual tow missle i fired and was thinking of incorperating it into the build but i dont like it too much. thought it would be cool to show you guys. i know the missles arent exactly the right color. tamiya calls for olive drab for the missles but that is definately not the color they were more of an olive green so thats what i painted them close but no cigar. but when i put the cover on they look right without being in direct light so i guess i will leave them . but enough out of me here are a few more pics.

steve if i knew you were in NYC i would have told you to stop by hope you didnt have to wait too long going to JFK

Sorry Mark, didn't catch your question back a few. Yes that is a Rufe in the background, it's the old Tamiya kit but still makes a good build

Dave, nice progress and good to see it comming along.

Mark, outstanding paint job you have there, You are in the final stretch by the looks of things, too bad you will miss the deadline but it will be worth it when finished and am positive your dad will be pleased with it.

Kenny, time to put some wheels on that thing. Looking good.

Thanks guys.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Some nice work on the Humvee Kenny. I like the idea of displaying it with the TOW cover. If you can make it work it'll be very original.

Dave, Love the detail you're putting in the cockpit.

Nice seamless intake trunk too. don't see too many of those in f-16 models.

Thanks for the kind comments guys! The intake was nothing three or four applications of filler and some coarse sandpaper couldn't fixCool [8D] I wrapped the sandpaper around a medium sized oval file to get into the corners.

Mark, that is an awsome 'Vark. I'll have to send a link to your build to a guy who flew them from Plattsburgh AFB in New York. He's building one now as well and I think he'll be able to gather some inspiration from your build!

Kenny, sharp looking Hummvee. That's looking like a nice clean build. Are you going to dirty it up in the end or is it going to leave ready for the IG's inspection? Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing it complete. I have a pair in 1/72 that I could use some ideas for.

Kenny, looks good, you must have been posting at the same time I was last night. Color difference does show up in the photo's. Too many shades of OD exist in real and it is hard to match in model building

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in posting for this build. Things have been real bad for me right now. I lost my internet at home and my computer crashed on me. Then I left my job to go back to school. This is my first week back in 16 years. It is tough reajusting to this type of life, COLLAGE. I am at Texas State Technical Collage in Waco, Texas. I am taking 25 hours this spring. Plus I am having to be away from my family for the first time since I was deployed to the "BIG SAND BOX" the first time for Desert Storm. I have not had a chance to work much on the E-3, but when I go back home tomorrow I will be getting the bird and try to do some work on it.

So far all of the builds here are comming along nicely.

Hey Guy's, finally got back to the work bench last night and got a lot of decaling done and some small touchups. I am still scrounging the spare decal box to come up with the numbers and some of the colours etc. Still have not been able to come up with the tail code numbers yet though. URRRRGH. Might get some work done tonight and might post some photos tomorrow.

Ok, as promised here are some update photos of the A-4. Most of the decals are on except for the tail codes. Tonight my daughter made them on the computor and I printed them so hopefully they will be on tonight. I did a little panel wash but there is not many panels to do so that did not take too long. I am not going to dirty up the bird too much as they were kept fairly clean. I might do a little pastel chalk on it to give it some depth.

As always comments and critique are always welcome.

Looking good Steve.

The A-4's really look good in that colour scheme.

I've bogged down with the one-eleven.

The Aussie equivalent of futre is a rather poor cousin. It ends up with a fair amount of orange peel and I've not been happy with the results on the last 2 models I've used it on.

I  tried my panel line wash without it and it didn't work. The matt acrylic just wicked it up out of the panel line and I ended up with a distorted colour about 3-5mm either side of the panel line. In the clean up I removed half ot the post shading and got streaks in my enamel tan. (which I used as I'd run out of acrylic)

You know that little voice in the back of your head that says " You're not going to make the deadline anyway, so maybe you should just wait till you can get the right paint." Well now it's saying, "Told you so, bet you wished you'd listened to me. Now look at all the work you've made for yourself."

As a result, I've put the pig aside for a moment and am working on the accessories till I get the new, purpose made modelling equivalent of future sold here as Passt.

I'll catch you all later in the week.

Cheers

Mark
