Military Veterans GB

Well, i've given up on the hobby store, so i'm going with the box decals.  It won't match with the Tarps pod so i either have a non-accurate model or take the Tarps off and reload it with weapons.   What do you guys think i should do?

Mark, hang in there dude. Dont feel bad about the future, for some reason I get the same effect when I use it and as a result I dont use it much anymore. I tend to use Testors gloss coat and dull coat. I use enamels so it's just easier for me that way. I am sure you will get it fixed. Just step back from it have a beer or whatever and come back at it.

Here are a couple of pictures of my 1/72 scale Revell M998 HMMWV. It represents the first HMMWV I was assigned as a staff officer. I was the Battlion Maintenance Officer (BMO) for 3-32 Armor of the 1st Cavalry Division in 1992. My callsign was Scorpion 8.

nice build rob. 3/32 INF was my unit when i went through basic at FT. Benning . then i moved onto the 101st ABD 1/187th INF. I was 11HE9 but the 101st didnt have tracked vehichles so i ended up in a hummer and i loved it. we didnt have a cool call sign lol D43 was ours everyone went by there vehicle number.

Hey Mist, hang in there. I was/am having the same problem with decals. My daughter bailed me out last night with her computor and they are close enough. Thats the problem when you model an exact replica of something you served with or on. You cant find decals for every unit or squadron. I searched every model web site and none had a match for my squadron. If you cant make the decals you want then sling some ordenance on it. At the end of the day though, model the way you like it.

 I want this bird done so bad, i'll just decal it with the box decals.  I'm sure one of the atlantic squadrons were tarps birds.  I want to get this completed and weathered.  I have a new weathering tip i want to try.  It should be done shortly.  Stay tuned

Wish the weather here would warm up so I could crack out the old airbrush. Unusual cold spell for Phoenix. Living in an apartment does have it's disadvantages when it comes to modelling

Hey fellas, Just got back from a wonderful few weeks at Graf. Anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes in Germany knows exactly what I am talking about. The only saving garace was that it rained instead of snow! Any ways.... I have a question for the group. My chinook, or rather my chinook parts are taking some time to get here. I am afraid I will not have enough time to do this project justice. So here is my proposal, I just spent the last two weeks as  TC for convoy live fire tng in a M1025 variant...... without vehicle mounted weapons. My wife bought me the tamiya version of this kit when I was in the field. I was wondering if I could build the HMMWV instead? I feel pretty certain I could get that done before the deadline, and truth be known I think the hook is gonna take some time..... like more time than I have before goin' downrange. Let me know what ya think.      JOSH

that is fine with me hook as long as it is something you served on that is part of the build. i am thinking about building a blackhawk or chinook when i am done with the hummer flew on them enough in the 101

i am trying to post pictures for the first time sooo bear with me. I don't know if they are gonna work. I just started the hmmwv yesterday.... wah wah wah wouldn't you know it my wife is puking her guts out today, just when I thought I would have time to do what I gotta. Anyway I finally got to try out the badger 360..........money. Maybe this thing spoiled me because the old airbrush I had was so yucky. The hummer is in what I cal pre- weathered condition. Some of the base coating is not complete. I just had to send up some pictures. I plan on building the hook downrange. I was really worried about getting her done before I left, I am really glad you guys let me build the hmmwv. Lord knows I haven't logged as many hours in these things as a lot of you, but I have spent my fair share of time in these things. Go be a warrant they all said.... you won't have to do this stuff they all said....I have to tell you my friends the ARMY  is still the ARMY. You will always have to do stuff you don't want. Enough of my rambling. Let me know what you think fellas. I like to paint everything black first, then detail and weather. Enjoy my friends.

Nice work on the Hummve Hook.

An interesting note on the Chinook.

The Boeing Vetrol engineers had major problems with the amount of noise this helo made during the early prototype stages. They solved this by containing it inside the passenger cabin.

Same solution was used on the C-130 I believe.

So now we have two Hummers going and still no wheels on yet. Its looking like a junk yard so far guy's. Let's get em done.

A-4 is comming along well and should be able to finish off the decals today or tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of the Hmmwv progress. The first picture was the silly putty masked over the base coat green. This was my first time trying this. I think it worked out pretty well. When I sprayed the black down it came out a little to "black". Every army vehicle I've seen with woodland on it had almost a grey color from where the black faded. I think I go ta little too carried away trying to tone it down. I am not too worried because I am not even close to done with the weathering process. As you can see I lpainted the hood off color. When we were out at Graf my vehicle had a recent hood replacement. So the hood was the same weird color you see here ( it was just luck that I got even close, much less dead on). I painted the wheels black in my traditional style then drybrushed them. I think they will look neato with some dust and mud on them......... we will see. The tamiya top fits so well that I am thinking of leaving it loose so that when my friends bring their kids over for some hamburgers and rootbeer they can see the inside. Next the windows go in, then the undercarriage will get another coat of black. After that I will detail the under side join it to the pax compartment. Then the fun will start. Dust with just the slightest hint of loose mud. Should be fun. By the way my wife is feeling much better this evening. I got all this done when my daughter was napping today........ I love being a parent! Really adds a slight challenge into everything. Life would not be the same without the little ones. Cheers fellas...   Let me know what ya think.               JOSH

Thanks Hook. I've only got a little lap top screen so I struggle at the best of times to see any detail.

That's a great camo job you've done there.

I like the way your wheels look too. I might give that a go with my F-111.

sorry guys.  It's been awhile since i was on last.  Weird stuff in my life right now.  Anyhoo.  My LHS "promised" me my decals will be in on Wednesday.  If they are this bird is 1st in line on the workbench.  Keep your fingers crossed

On my side of things, I am almost finished my A-4. Got a lot of work done last weekend and only need to put all the fiddly bits on it. I will post some photos hopefully this weekend.

Whoah, wish I had seen this GB earlier! I woulda done a 130 for it... then again, wifey would prolly kill me if I tried to buy another kit, rather than work on one of the many in my stash

I was deployed to FOB Speicher last year and the Rakkasans were there too. Unfortunately Col. Steele is in trouble for some ROE violations.. the charges are absolute BS though.
