Osher, I was looking at a website for a model contest/show and in reading that particular organizers' rules for OOB, it did not allow scratch seat belts.  So I guess it is what ever the organizer declares.  So, are belts in or out?Smile [:)]

the funny thing  (well not funny ha ha but....)if even 1/3 of the fsm forum members, that is more than 15 thousand strong  were to buy an airfix kit for this,  it could tell them (the company or potential new buyer for the company) something

Although I'm building a 1/48 Spitfire IXc/XVIe (when it arrives from Squadron) for the GB, I'm happy to announce that I won the Airfix 1/72 scale 70th Anniversary Spitfire Set last night on eBay. It has the S6b racer, a Mk. I, V, IX, XIV, and XVIe- plus paint! And I got it for $21.50! Woo-hoo!

Now to see if I can find the 1/48 set.

Hey Osher,

Know what you mean about the bare metal finish showing every flaw. The Vampire I am doing is also bare metal and finishing seams withouth loosing detail will be fun sanding. Airfix is never fun with metal finishes.

Some one was asking about OOB!

As Osher mentioned only the stuff in the box is allowed with the exception of scratched seatbelts, I think photo-etched is a no-no.

The other exception is decals, you can choose am decals as some kits have crappy decals or old decals that break apart and that sort of thing. Obviously, one would need to get decals that worked in that case.

Maybe not even radically, osher... Just repackaged, with quality decals and instructions, and maybe some new-tooled bits and pieces to eke out the old parts. Think of the new fuselage parts that created a B-57, while retaining the wings and engines of the original Canberra kit... There again, that is pretty radical mods.

Well, according to my collection log in the computer, I have 70 Airfix kits in stock, so I might as well build one for the GB! I've never been part of a GB before -- what's this OOB specification?

Cheers,

TB379

Hi Jon,

I saw there was 1 box on EvilBay for 18.99 GBP (that's about 36 USD if I'm not mistaken).

I paid 31.95 EUR (41 USD) for mine at the LHS !!

Good luck,

Thanks! Do you recall the seller, URL or anything like that?

Looks like you got around the fuselage problem nicely but the canopy looks like it's in trouble. Have you cleaned it up yet or have you figured out how to fix it.Steve.

Various grades of sanding sticks, and lots and lots of lovely elbow grease.  No pics yet, but the mainplanes (wings) went on fairly well, just a smidgeon of filler needed.

What makes this more difficult is that it's in BMF, so, everything will be exposed!

Hey Osher,  Thanks for the call on the decals, I really have my heart set on the Vampire in Irish Air Corps configuration.

Everything else will OOB. Might also put the kit on the Airfix controle tower kit and make a mini diorama of Airfix stuff.

Here's my progress so far.  First, the box, with artwork dating back to the 50's

Now for the basic kit, just 31 parts!

Well, the fuselage wasn't going to fit!  Nope, a huge step, because one side fitted in the other.  Not sure why, but it did cause me problems.  A lot of squeezing, and Mr. White Surfacer 1000 (I meant to use 500, but couldn't find it).  Next, Italeri putty.  I did make a silly error and used some old adhesive, which spread around unevenly.  Yuck!

What I didn't see was the glasshouse whilst spraying, and so, it's now covered in primer (half, that is)

Hiya!  Hmmm, let's use just the logo in the top left corner (the roundel, with the white background), and maybe the words: Airfix Farewell GB, if possible in a circle around the logo?

All done!  Been looking around for the colours for the interior (as much as it is).  Going to use light grey and black.  Found a picture of a Mig-15 kit from the 50's in a the earliest packaging.  Is this the only mould to be use from (almost) day one to the final days?

Basically (and someone correct me if i'm wrong), it means, the only thing you can add to what's in the box are seatbelts. (OOB standing for Out Of Box).Question [?]

As for decals, hmmm, well, the kit's the thing, and whilst I'd prefer Airfix decals too, sure, use AM decals!Cool [8D]
