I must agree. That carrier is HUGE!!!!  
Man, Kenny - you certainly have your work cut out for you! 

This Mig-31 is a good chunk of work.  The kits has some areas
that need total reshaping, so I've been whittling the fuselage
like a hunk of wook wood some places.  The plastic walls are
1/8" thick around the body, and I'm often cutting all the way
through.  This kit is unlike any I've ever done in the how it is
designed to fit together.

As for additional polling data on who is building their votes, bbrownii,
I don't think I am going to go back and cross-reference all the data. 
That would take at least 2 hours because I didn't keep track while
counting.  Best to just ask everyone.  I was way excited about the
Mig-31, but now... 8/     
well, Ask me when I get done carving! LOL

All in all - I'm really enjoying myself on this kit despite it's flaws.

Update, the cockpit tub of the apache is now finished (well, at least I consider it finished, I know a lot of modellers here would consider it only a start ) so while the glue is setting to hold the cockpit in the fuse halves, I am able to use the time to post some pics...

And here is what I hope to achieve in the end...

Decals is however a problem that will need to be overcome, since this is the only pic I have of that bird.

Wait a minute!!  So what you are telling me is that you would rather build a model than sit and crunch numbers for, like, two hours just to answer a question that really has no bearing on anything of remote significance...  Man, where are your priorities?...

Actually - I love numbers.  Mathematics is a hobby of mine. :)

But I don't want to fall behind on my modelling that's for sure!

DanCooper, nice start! looks like some real progress.

Mist, most tricycle gear models require weight in the nose.  Try balancing it where the main landing gear goes to get an idea of how much weight is required.

jlwilliams, stay away from the instructions!!!  We may not wear pants but we are still men!

Kenny- It will be interesting to watch your build on the Enterprise. I had seen the box many times but did not realize how big she really is. Even the FSM articles never really showed how big it is.

Dan- . At least your getting started. I'm still looking at instructions. And yes, I still use the instructions and i'm not afraid to admit it lol.

Someone else already answered the question, but yeah you have to add weight.  Given how far back the tail sits from the CG, you may be putting in quite a bit of weight.  I love the B-25, so it will be fun to watch yours come together.

Dan, you're making quick progress on the Apache.  As far I'm concerned, I think the cockpit tub looks good.

I use the instructions too, not because I want to or need to, but because I have to ; it says so on that piece of paper in the box "Carefully read the instructions..."

Update : Fuse halves have been joined, and now I remember why this kit has been in my stash for so many years... how the heck am I supposed to get rid of the seams, if I want a seamless model, I loose a couple of dozen of molded on rivets, if I want to save the rivets I need to leave the seams where they are ???  Any advice on this one ? 

I guess those of us that use instructions must be getting in touch with our femine side. 

Dan, here's a thought... in the places that you cannot sand without losing detail you might try applying a thin strip (between 1/16 and 1/8 depending on scale) of PE material or maybe a strip of lead foil?  I know it would not be accurate to the subject but you could hide a lot of sins that way.

As promised, a couple of new pictures, I had to wait till now to have daylight...

You may (or than again, you may not) notice, that I have not installed the main rotor shaft, the reason is that I want the rotor to remain removable for storage reason, also, the tailrotor has not been installed because I want to wait with that till after most of the painting is done, for that reason, the tailfin has not been glued and can be held open with a screwdriver to allow installation of the tailrotor assembly... 

Edit, after seeing the second picture here, I got the impression she doesn't sit straight on her lg, but I checked the model itself, and it must be an optical illusion, probably my camera wasn't perfectly horizontal... 

Ok guys, we slipped to number 12 on the thread list. How Can this be? Is everyone modeling now instead of posting? Ah to be working on a model instead of earning a paycheck.

razor- I don't think anybody reads instructions for electrical thing-a-ma-jigs anymore. Just keep pluggin' things in till it works lol.

Dan- your apache is coming along great. nice pics. It does look off level (plum?) but if you already checked then it must be the optical illusion thing. looks good though especially when you tilt your head just so.

I hear ya there; my wife has a list for me that is up to item #32.   And the boss has this weird thing about me working, and he and the rest of the office leaving for a few days (just because I am the son-in-law and not one of the daughters).  My revenge, I have configured the mail server to send him about 2 dozen suppliers' emails that they send every day.

Are you going to make custom laser printer decals?  That could

I've finally taken a break in my work to photograph some progress.
This first picture shows the amount of sanding that I am
performing along the fuselage side.

I've recarved the space inboard of the intake.  It was way wrong.
It needs alot of follow-up smoothing.

A good shot of the putty usage on the side.  I wish I took a before
picture of this seam, 'cause it was butt-ugly.

Tonight I worked on four different models at once!  I'm in the F16
build, and a couple personal projects. It was sweet to load the
airbrush with a color, use on several kits, then change.  Very efficient.
You can see I blasted the intake walls with black.

This project has only begun it seems.  I will be at this stage for a
long time, I think.
