Well fellas, I am calling this one finished. I have noticed some small details that need a little tweeking here and there but overall shes done. I have decided to put this in adiorama and use the figures it comes with with maybee a few extras. In quick review. This is a very nice kit with good detail and fit overall. Only problem I had was the wing to fuselage joint at the top had a major gap that was a pain to fill. I ended up putting shims in and liquid cement to fill the grand canyon with plenty of filler and sanding. The rest of the fit was very good. It was painted with MM enamils and weathered with pastel sludge wash and pastel powders. The only recess detail was on the engines and flying surfaces so not much to do there. I used a silver pencil for chipped paint on the cowls and prop blades which I over did the effect and will correct that. The kit decals were terrible as the shattered into hundreds of pieces when they hit the surface and I had to piece them together with a tooth pick. They are also translucent and the invasion stripes show through them. I wanted a D-day bird so I painted the invasion stripes (uuggghhh) and I had to make the yellow code letters to properly represent them as the kit supplied ones are grey. I will now work on the figures to go with the kit in a diorama.

A little progress on the M finally!

What do you guys think of the possum huntin' gun I have on there?  The lightning sat in the box in my truck all afternoon on a 100+ degree day, I'm sure you know the rest.  Actually, I just installed the kit pieces to help me get the nose right, I will be replacing them with brass later.

I like the Mig.  It is nice to see one in something besides a NMF.  The cammo really changes the character of the plane.

I like your work on the Mig.  That squiggly paint job must have been really labor intensive.

I have the same kit in progress right now as well (right there with my P-38M conversion).  You are right, it is an easy and quick build, but you'll need some putty and sanding patience (I have been chasing the seams forever it seems).  That, and I just "love" the dark green plastic that the kit has (The P-51 comes in a dark brown, but the FW-190 comes light gray {working on those as well at the same time}).  Even the primer that I am using is not fully doing the job.  Why does Monogram do that; use a colored plastic instead of a simple gray?

Ok, I know why (to answer my own question).  Monogram in an effort to help the entry modelers with not needing a ton of paints and supplies to build a kit, they mold the kit in a pre-dominate color.  Nice idea, but I have gotten accustumed to the stand grey like Hasegawa does.  I forget how when I was young I thought it was great to have the plane come 'colored' already.

Yes I airbrushed it freehand using the Aeromaster decal instruction sheet as a guide. The markings will be for a "North Korean" MiG-15 flown by a Soviet "volunteer" night fighter ace during the Korean War, ca. 1952. The lowers will be black. I really liked the pattern, and the unique colors on this one.

Great paint job Stik. Did you do it freehand?. it's a very interesting scheme and  was wondering what nationality the Mig is. Very nice job.

Here is my latest work on my MiG. I airbrushed the green camo pattern yesterday evening. I had some minor difficulties with my airbrush (it's OLD) but am satisfied with the results. Next will be the underside color.

Here are some progress shots of the Pine Island. My main goal is to remove all of the cast on railings and replace with PE. Removal took a lot of preplanning, and eventually I had to rebuild the side galleries. Paint should arrive next week.

OK, here are the first few shots of my Monogram 1/48 MiG-15. Initial construction is 90% complete and this is the preliminary stages of painting. I am marking it as a nightfighter flown in Korea by a Soviet ace in a tiger style camo scheme with decals by Aeromaster. Otherwise it is being built straight from the box. The only mods I made was to drill out the cannon barrels and the gun camera port.

I have really been enjoying seeing all the quality work that everyone has put in on this GB.  I for one havent yet started on my B-25J and will not be able to for quite some time.  So it is with great reluctance that I must bow out of this build. 

Keep up the great work turning all those monogram/Revell kits into real jems.

Hey guys, I'm going to switch my build from the Me-410 to the Monogram 1/48 B-24D.  I got some aftermarket decals for it as I want to do mine as the original lead B-24 from the famous Ploesti low level bombing raid of August 1, 1943.  It will be in the desert scheme used by many of the B-24s based in Libya, which is sort of a desert sand/pink color (the desert sand scheme changed to a pinkish hue from the harsh sun of the Libyan desert).  It will be built as Wongo Wongo which was the original lead aircraft of the mission.  It crashed mysteriously in the Mediterranean Ocean on the way to the target.

I think I'll be last as I just joined a few days ago and my MiG is not yet ready for paint. Still dealing with a few seams giving me problems. A few more days though....

The Dakota is getting close to completion, gloss coat and decals. I made my own yellow decals for the D-Day bird and all the kit decals shattered into hundreds of parts, lots of fun pushing them around into place. I messed up the windshield trying to place it perfectly and ended up pushing it too far. The decals are also translucent and show through the fuselage stripes. A little weathering and putting on all the fiddly bits is next.

I am really more interested in the rivet detail, in certian places on the P-38, raised detail is appropriate but it is a bear to get more than a few uniform rivets in a row.

Wow, that kit has such a poor fit.
I've just been through somthing like that with a Mig-31.

On my model, I slapped loads of putty on the seams and
then I sanded the whole area with with 80-grit, completely
producing a new surface.  Then buff with finer sandpaper to
smooth and scribe some panel lines in.  Recessed might look
better, but if you want to create raised panel lines, just hold
the sharp edge of an Xacto at a 45-deg angle and cut.  I
dunno what to do about those rivets though :)

That P-38 is looking good so far!

The progress isn't fast. I've been working with the cockpit, and I've been trying to figure out how much work I like/want to do. There are decals for the instruments, and I don't think they look very good. I used the one to the main panel and glued on the back of the transparent panel. I'll try to paint the tiny areas that isn't instruments. The only thing I can show so far is the ejection seat. I added some thin stripes of masking tape as belts and bent pieces of copper thread for the ejection handles.

I'll try to borrow a camera and take some more pics later.

I think that it is about time for me to post some progress on my P-38.

I've had worse fit problems here with this kit, but this is worse than dry fitting indicated.

Building gear up to hang in my son's room.  It is a bit of a bear to get good joints but doable.

This has always been the worst area for me on this kit.  Replacing the raised detail is the part that I dread the most, any quick and easy ideas?  I may end up replacing the weapons with brass, but at least everything lines up this way.
