Jin,

I will sorely miss the humor and wit you have brought to this GB, yet I wish you the best of luck in your pursuits. Please keep in touch with us here. I know I'd go crazy if I was in a place I couldnt build models, at my age model building is one of the few things that keeps me sane. Propeller [8-]

Good luck in your endeavors across the big pond.  Keep in touch whenever you can.  You have put a lot of time and effort into modeling and the FSM forums.  That will be missed.

Wow!  The builds shown lately really are looking nice! Bow [bow]

Doom,

Remember, the most important person to please when building is you, unless of course you are doing commission work. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Any Interested parties,

I have been keeping up with the group, and providing some feedback, but have not mentioned progress on my second Petty car.  I am presently working on the body and the masking and painting of the red and blue.  As with the Kyle Petty car, I could not match the blue used on the decal sheet, so I am going to be carefully removing the unnecessary portions of the decals, once I finish painting.  With six different blue paints in my collection, I thought that adding white to one of them would match the decal blue, but alas, this was not the case.  Anyway, I hope to be finishing up soon and posting some photos of the end product.

Thanks for the compliments, gents. I just took another look at some reference photos... aparently those gaps should have be dealt with. Oops. I think I'd had enough filling and sanding on this thing, though. I'm sort of glad it's on the shelf so I can move one though. Next I have a hobbycraft Humvee on the bench... actually it's half done.... 3/4 done. Don't feel like putting much effort into it = ). I'll keep up with the build though.

Doom, a beautiful build, very clean, other than a couple of noticable gaps, it is GREAT.

I think doing an aircraft in a scheme that you want to do gives an added motivation to complete it.  Sometimes, if I am trying to copy a scheme, I lose intrest.  This one would have kept my intrest if I had been building.

You did a great job of color selection; my first thought was you did this as a 'what if' Kuwait scheme.  You also did a great job of getting it loaded to go do some "bad guy A$$ kicking"  Your cockpit detail is wonderfully detailed.  Looks like you put some hours into that! Thumbs Up [tup]

mpddraco, I have this one in the stash, which decals will you use?  While I love Big Beautiful Doll, My favourite scheme for the P-51 is the 55th FG.  I plan on doing Miss Marylin.

Also, no progress on my Titanic, I've got three other GBs taking my time.

Please ignore the super glue fume marks. I was told somewhere by a birdy that it would not adhere to Future-treated clear parts. Oh well...

Blemishes?!  What blemishes??  You have personalized weathering.  And since you have modeled a plane that has seen some action; your result looks very well to me.  I am sure you have seen some photos of some of the battle hardened planes, so yours is looking like it has done some "egg dropping" over Europe.  It looks like you put on a very fine layer of 'dust' for the look of flying a couple of missions.  About the only thing I'd suggest is to add a few spots of an off-color to represent "repaired & replaced" body panels (if you felt like you need to do something to improve the big bird).

I know what you mean about the difficulty in this kit.  I have built it twice; the first time, I was 12 so I didn't know better; the second time, I was building it for hobby shop, so I went nuts trying to correct the issues.  Since it is now hanging from the ceiling, I 'whimped out' and didn't do anything that wouldn't be seen from below.  I think most Monogram kits have been designed for "ceiling flight" and not "ground maintenance on the shelf".

Hi guys sorry I haven't posted anything yet, but my computer crashed and just got I back up and running, needless to say this took up a lot of my time.  Now I'm ready to start on the P-51D.

All the builds look great, hope mine turns out a least half as good (Haven't build a model in a long time)

Fightnjoe nice work on the interior. Looks like your making good progress. One thing I see you should remove the control yoke next to the bobsite. It was used to control the chin turret on the G models earlier A/C didn't have it.

Dave your B-17G looks pretty good to me. I know it can be a tough build.

When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/

It's not a challenge, it's a nightmare!  lol  JK  Everyone, especially in this GB, knows that most R/M are a struggle.  But I've always wanted to build that model.  I remember when I was about 5 and my Dad build one and hung it from the ceiling.  I was always fascinated by that plane ever since.  I'm glad I struggle through it.  At a glance, which most none modelers will take anyway, it looks pretty decent.  Any more of a look would reveal tons of errors, but oh well.  I'm glad I built it.

Looking good Joe, you've taken on quite a project but it's coming along nicely!

Dave, your finished B-17 looks great to me!  I've heard it's a bit of a challenge, but you seem to have met it head on and won!  Smile [:)]

Well, after long last, I finally finished my B-17G.  I made so many mistakes on this build, it's ridiculous.  I salute all the modelers that make this kit look good.  It tested my skills and it's well beyond my abilities still.  You gotta really work to make this thing look nice OOB.  I hope you enjoy the pics, sorry my camera sucks but maybe it will hide some of the many blemishes.  Smile [:)]

I am in with a P-38.  Going to do the 'added surgery' (above and beyond the normal amount for a Monogram) and convert into the F-5 photorecon.

Doom, it's a revellogram nothing can be insulting about the construction of such a kit. If you haven't entered it in the "Firecracker 500" it must be a good build.Big Smile [:D] Even I of little skill was able to make a revellogram look OK.

Update on my A-10. It's finished! I have to say that there weren't too many disasters on this build. There are some flaws.... many flaws.... that I can still see, but I think it's time to put this pile o' plastic to rest. I'm a total newbie so the result may insult you slightly = ). I'll post some pictures later.

Nice work on the PBM.  I love the shark mouth on the box art.  Instead of wolf in sheep's clothing, is that called a "shark in whale's clothing?"

Hi gang, I am still plugging along on my PBM.  It was such a simple model, I decided to add a little scrach building to "earn" my badge.  It needed some beaching gear so I made some detachable units.  I then hogged out the stupid engine fairings and built recessed engine plates.  Next I made a crew door out of plastic card and wine bottle foil.  Lastly, I backdated the radar dome to the old version by wraping it with card stock.  And don't forget those pesky vortex thingies on the horizontal stab.  Greg

Do the best job you can then be proud of your efforts.

Thanks guys I really enjoy building these older Monogram kits.

Air Master I too have one of the Promodeler kits it's the Hasegawa kit in a Monogram box. A good buy if you can find one cheaper than the Hase. boxing.

Joe, that detail IS amazing! Likewise, I too am looking forward to see the finished product.

Mk, Great job on the Phantom! I can tell it is indeed a Revell-Monogram kit... I can still see the seam line behind intakesWhistling [:-^]

Just an FYI... Monogram had a 1/48 Pro Modeler kit of the F-4E that did indeed have the recessed panel lines. I know this because I have the kit in my stash.Big Smile [:D]

Well Done Gents!

Joe,

I am looking forward to seeing the end product, as the interior work is very nice. Cool [8D]

mkhoot,

I thought that this was a Revell Monogram group build!  That F-4 looks far to nice to be one of their kits.  Are you sure that you didn't slip in a Hasegawa on us? Big Smile [:D]  In all seriousness, the plane turned out very nice and I congratulate you on your fine build!  Bow [bow]
