I dove back into the Bill Elliot Taurus last night and all the engine parts are either assembled or painted. I hope to have in-progress pics tonight or tomorrow after I thieve my son's camera. Whistling [:-^] Sometime in the next few days I'll start spraying the gloss red on it, and progress will accelerate, because the frame, cage and body are all gloss red.

Ooo, you're going hard-care! Will still chack gurneyflap to see, but this is my refsite for my build, which is the "right" car for me. They also have subsection from the main site to the newer LM cars and I'm sure there'd be ample pictures. Will still see how much I add, I've seen guys throwing their toys about the model of cellphone not being quite correct.

V-formed windshield is something Im not looking forward to messing with. Mine should be here thursday or friday cant wait.  Say have you found any or know of any place were i might find wiring and fitting for the cockpit of the car....  also looking for as many pictures of the cockpit I can find...

Nope, none built. (Tbh, I've not even done many MM kits at all.) But I've been a fan of their kits since I got my first one and have built up a bit of a "collection". The newer F1's... trust me, they will make your jaw drop!

Just took it out the box and glanced through. Resin looks superb, the engraving looks just rightto be perfect after paint. If I am confident, there's a couple of places I might drill through where they just have indents. The main thing I am apprehensive about, is the windows - seems all are of these vac-formed ones you have to cut out. But the best thing (please other manufacturers...) are the rubber-backed PE! I jump of joy every time I see that! Btw, will be using Hiroboy's Zero colour for the DBR9.

Was wondering whether to do this or a Jag XJR-9 with SMS PE and CF - maybe the DBR9 will be a great oppurtunity to learn together. If the rest won't find it boring.

Have you built any Model Factory Hiro kits?

Sounds cool to me. And call it what you want - Le Mans, prtotypes, LM Series, Endurance racing, I'm in...

I might do some prefitting before then, depending on how my other builds go. Otherwise I'll fall in a couple of months late!

Dustin, which of the DBR9's are you getting? I have the "original" one - LM 2005, I think.

I'm OK with pushing the end date back. And though I wouldn't be in on it myself, a Le Mans or endurance group build sounds awesome.

Although I like the idea of a LeMans GB-I've got the Sebring Stars & Stripes Corvette in the stash and found a set of NART decals online that would fit the bill-I was wondering if it could be opened up to, say, an Endurance Racing GB to include Dayton, Sebring, etc.  Just a thought.  Would give me reason to pickup the Accurate Miniatures Grand Sport Corvette...Whistling [:-^]

No issues with either moving the date or a Le Mans GB! Like the idea of the latter. Also have a MFH DBR9, so it could be quite fun. But maybe a chance to pull out the LMM Bentley. Any ideas regarding the dates? This will also solve my "what-to-do-next" dilemma quite nicely, but an indication of start-date would help with timing my builds.

Just finished the Lotus 80. Went okay, just a "slight problem" towards the end. Will post pics tonight (if all goes to plan).

 Hey Guys,

I hope all of you are doing well?  I was wondering if we might extend this group build a few months? Life has been getting in the way of my modeling and it looks like Im going to be able to start back up just cant finish kit by march. Let me know if anyone has a problem with pushing back the end date....

Plus I was thinking about a Le Mans GB????  My MFH DBR9 will be here next week.  Thoughts?????

I finally got up the nerve to drop the body of the Stratos into Superclean and strip off that paint.

I found out what I did wrong....I sprayed gloss white Testors enamel, then for the green sprayed Tamiya lacquer. I have an airbrush now so I don't have to use rattle cans anymore! Hurray!

I just sprayed the white, once that dries and sets I am going to mask and do the green. Probably have pics by the weekend

Hey guys, nice to see some action on the thread! Sorry, at work now and can't see pics, so will comment from home.

Just a quick request - say a couple of silent prayers, I am about to do the final assembly of the Lotus 80 front suspension. I dread it! Allready yesterday evening had some stuff come off when trying to enlarge a hole closed up slightly due to *duh* too much CA. Re-drilled it this morning and it looks as if the part that should go in the hole now dry-fits at least. Add glue and it won't...

The Lotus 107B's decalling is still progressing. The base colours on the rear wing is done (and wing assembled). Some of the bigger "base colour" decals needs some sub-assemblies to be completed, notably inbetween the suspension parts on the nose. So think I'll be leaving some stuff at the base decals level, let all dry properly and then gloss to protect, adding the rest of the decals later and glossing again. Don't want to tear decals whilst inserting fron suspension arms.

Finally I got a paint job that I can live with.  Ended up using Tamiya primer & semi-gloss black & clear coat spray cans and Slixx decals.  Although there is some orange peel, I'm going to cut my losses and actually start gluing things together.  Most of the small parts have been painted and I should be able to finish before the listed end date.  One pleasant surprise was when I was looking for a paint that would look like the aluminium interior of most race cars.  I saw a can of Testors MM Chrome spray at my LHS as decided to give it a shot-I might tone it down a bit with some flat, but I'm happy with it.  Which is good since I had to strip the chome plating off of the injector scoop-three attachment points on the spruce and the plating was too heavy anyway.

My daughter gave me her Bill Elliott McDonalds Taurus. She considers it too daunting and prefers looking at cars to building them...now I know why she loves Snap-Tites!

So, tonight I took it out during the Super Bowl and got the engine mostly done. Monday or Tuesday night my son and I will be working on the Todd Bodine Tabasco Grand Prix.

If you count the Tabasco car, that's 14 builds I've got planned for this year. Ai chihuahua! Of course, only some of them have due dates, so I'll concentrate on those, including these race car builds.

No major problems!Just remember to cut the "Canon"decals so that you can lift the rear deck to view the engine and transaxle.

Lovely! Any interesting problems with the FW11? Mine still to be built...

The Lotus 80 is nearing completion. Just (haha, yeah right... "just" ) the suspension to go> Plus the wheels, obviously. The Lotus 107B's engine is nearing completion. Remember me wondering whether I'll succumb to decalling rather than going for the hectic masking and painting option on this scheme? Well, as it turns out, I had no option. Some of the sponsorship logo's are on the coloured decals and not supplied seperately - so you have to decal! Thusfar the decals (touch wood) are really impressive. The go down superbly, fit well, no worries. I am doing them very very slowly so that I don't accidently move one whilst busy with another. Inbetween the engine grew, the 80 got some attention... no rush!

I am applying decals to the MP4/2. This includes some aftermarket TABU decals for the schmoookiiin' stuff. However, I was somewhat disappointed in this. The decals were made brilliantly, they apply like a dream, except for it being split to try and circumvent legal issues, thus causing you to have to allign the boro with the first part every time. But what bother me was that the sizing seems somewhat off. I have been rather carefull when painting to refer to pics and drawings to try to get the red lines right. Yet the sidepod decals run into the red! And the rear of the rear wing does not cover the whole of the width... Likewise the decals next to the driver seems a bit big on initial application. There's no way to correct it, so I'll just have to grin and bear with it.

Anybody else run across this before? Or is it just my bad luck - or was my markings off? Will post pics shortly...

First off - best wishes for 2008 to all you guys! Hope there's lots of completed models, little lost parts and paint-stripping ahead! Wink [;)]

The Lotus 80 is coming along. Painted and decalled the body, just starting on the interior. Just had one mishap on a decal that stuck in a not-so-straight position... It's what happens when it shifts ever-so-slightly when you add the micro sol and then you quickly have to attend to your daughter who could not get past the exercise ball she moved into her own way, then, a minute later (max!) when you turn around and want to move the decal, it's allready stuck! Blush [:I]

Also started on a Lotus 107B I picked up for a bargain at my LHS. It will be an interesting exercise in decalling! And the MP4/2 for which I don't ever seem to have time, found some attention and I did the rear wing. I think that counts as a model on it's own! Now onto the rear suspension and some decalling. Think the Lotus build is helping that one along, since I now am anyways working with WM and PE parts, so "while I'm busy" I just do some stuff on the MP4/2 as well. That as well as the intimidation factor that's gone out the window, because whilst working on a 43rd kit, the 20th just seems so much easier! (At least you can see everything and can hold it in your finger, you don't need a tweaser to hold eg. a steering wheel whilst painting it!

Thanks SeaBee-the LHS didn't have Gloss Black in Tamiya spray, so I picked up a can of the Testor's equivlant.  Tonight I prime, tomorrow sand and maybe start painting on Saturday. And thanks for the advice.  I was on the Tamiya site and they also suggested 'stirring' the can rather than shaking due to the new type propellants used.  I would have never thought about that....

Darn, that's not good!

The TS paints are the only rattlecans I use. I almost allways give it a basecoat, also Tamiya (and allways white for the "colours" - for a black the grey will do fine.) I used the gloss black on a R390 a while ago and it worked just fine.

The most important things are to heat the can in water first, it helps with the diluting of the paint, making the flow and mix better. Then obviously you need to shake it a bit - I prefer to "swirl" it rather than shake it. Then build up with a couple of mist layers, about 15 mins apart, plus a thicker wet layer. And I usually still add some clear to that as well. Overall, very easy to work with and you get some very consistent flow. Just remember to have a thoroughly clean part to work on! When I've had issues, it was mostly due to dirty/contaminated surface.

If you have an airbrush and want to get really good matching paint for some other projects, also try Hiroboy's range of Zero paints. He mixes it to create some good matching shades for esp difficult to find/match shades. Very usefull for race cars with different tinges of the same colours. But you'll have to wait a bit for that, should you want some. For the black, I'd be more than happy to advise the TS paints!

Good luck with the black, let me know how it goes.
