Auto racing GB March 2007-2008

 I think Im going to do the Pons then the Yamaha the yellow and black one '04,'05 not sure of the year.  At that point Ill have worked with Zero and ready for the Honda

Dustin, we're wandering way off topic, but... hey, it's related! I used the Zero paint "bundle" for my recent 03 Repsol RC211V build - it's in the MotoGP GB. In one word: you-won't-be-sorry! It is awesome paints and... yes, the blue esp is an incredible process. I believe it's exactly the same (or close as makes no difference) paint. Follow the instructions and wait for your jaw to drop when the blue pops out!

My whites as well, if I may continue on the zero paints... I painted the Williams and Handa TS26 and the McLaren I did in Zero white this afternoon. In the end, the TS26 was not so bad, but once I started with the Zero white, I was just shaking my head. Predictable pressure as opposed to the rattlecans, not the possibility of the odd bubbly bit that I manage to get every now and then. Just a joy to work with compared to the cans. Before you ask - I did not want to mix paint layers and have the fluo red from zero as well. After my Spidey bike, I have promised to try to find a substitute for TS36! (It took ages to harden properly, just stayed goo-ey.) I am yet to try this one, but will during the week. And the correct fluo red has allways remained the holy grail, so maybe he hit the jackpot!

 I do find it a little crummy that its not Nicky's bike but oh well.  Im going to warm up on the '03 Honda Pons bike. I see theres a trans kit to turn it into Nickys bike.

  I would like to get that paint set Zero makes for the '06 Repsol Honda before I get to far with it.

  It is a two tone paint job and the decals are both red and silver. And the picture doesnt show that the red is off from the decal a bit and i think its because i used a gray primer. Up close the red paint is a bit orange to my eye but what can you do???  

   Im going to slow down on that build for now because I was asked by  friend to build him a Nickys '06 Honda Moto GP bike. I know that kit isnt his bike but my friend doesnt care. Bikes are not my thing so Im headed down a path Ive never traveled. ......Wish me LUCK!!!!

F1Champ and Dustin, both your builds are coming along great!

Dustin, is that a 2-tone paintjob with decalling the rest of the way? I see part where I'd imagine the red should be painted and silver decalled and the on the sides I'd have imagined they'd let you paint the silver and decal the red. Or how is that done? And if so, perfect colour matches!

Over here I can see just one thing... WHITE! White primer and white paint everywhere. Different phases, but some has first layer of paint, rest only primered. 3 models, all with white as major colour... MP4/2 (only primered), FW24 (first white layer) and (off-topic) LCR Honda RC211V, also first paint layer. 

  Here is where Im at been working on other things slowing this down a little..

     F1 looks like your moving right along...  Looks good.   By the way do you have any pics of the F2001 engine.....side view??

Here's an update on the GT1

Put a thin coat of primer on the body just to see how it was coming along and give me a good idea on what needs more work. Still need to do the fender vents, and figuer out what I'm going to do with the rear end exhaust wise. Also here's a few of the interior pieces, the seats with red velour flocking and CF on the back, dash with the ac vents removed and the top dash CF'd. The door panels were covered in SMS hi-def CF, which didn't lay on as nice as I would have liked, guess I just need more practice.  Hopefully I can keep this build moving along and get it finished so I can get a start on the F1 car for the next GB.

The Studio 27 CF looks great and you laid it on there very well. I have some hi-def SMS CF coming in the mail, so I'll post pictures of that for comparison when I get it on the doors. As for the 23, I agree, I didnt' even notice until I read the comment about it so I don't think it will be visible when the model is completed.

Personally allways liked the SMS decals, they worked very well for me! (Goes to show!) May have to try their "high-definition" one for variation as well. But never could get the Museum Collection CF decals to work for me, esp unimpressed since it ruined my 1:12 F190 (641/2 Ferrari) by peeling off a year or so down the line. Much as I like some of their other stuff.

  I get these from Strada Motor Sports over here. I have used the SMS C/F but I just cant seem to get them to work as well as the ST27 decals. Im thinking about getting some of the MFH C/F decals  but will ask around to see how theres work

Looks good - CFing is hard work! Which S27 CF is that? Awesome pattern, been looking for that kind of pattern to use as an alternate to some of the SMS stuff. And it looks a lot like what I'll need for something else I want to do, after seeing some pics yesterday in the local build-up to the motogp race.

Don't worry about the 23...

The MP4/2 has been shown some acetone on the resin. Looks like a relative simple build (now I've gone and cursed it!) and it's been cast very cleanly. Quick-fitting looked good and I ventured into the front wing. Very little to do on the outside before painting will commence. The buildup of the rear wing looks like the main challenge in this one...

FW24 seat is inserted and starting to build up the bodywork in preparation for painting that as well. Will then commence with the other detailed building to allow the paintwork to settle.

    This is what Ive been doing this weekend. Been adding CF to some of the tub of this racer. I tell you the middle where the shifter goes took me forever!!!!!  But the ST27 CF went down wonderful for me. Not the best pics but Im still learning this camera.

A little progress on the Willys'.  Since this is a '60's era car, I decided to use red oxide primer.  Since the top coat is black, shouldn't be a problem...I hope.  The kit is nice-a fair amount of detail.  I'm hoping to be able to take the time to wire & plumb the engine compartment.  However, it does lack seat harnesses...go figure.  Hope to get the car painted by weeks end....maybe....

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the positive comments. Fact is, without the input from you guys and the guys over at F1M, I'd never have (a) even attempted it or (b) manage to make it look like it was supposed to. Still room for improvement, but that the bad thing about this hobby, there's allways some things you know about...

As for "next" - I have a S27 McLaren MP4/2 lined up. I have allways liked that car (in which Lauda won his 3rd title in 84 by half a point). But I see you're also talking over at the F1 GB, so I'll answer some Q's there as well.

The R10 is being released shortly, I think. I think there's just a straight LMM release, but there's a mouthwatering prospect of a SMS & LMM colaborated release as well. So not sure about LMM-only release or if only this joint effort will be released (which will be released). But for this one, I'm personally going to take a bit of a back seat and get the Revell version.

Hey, who said a bit of pain did anybody harm? At least it got me to finish this R8 (and the RC211V I've been working on).

So here's the pics. Don't expect too much, this is only my second MM kit. Also excuse the shadows being cast by the camera... Not the best digicam out there, but it works for the rest of what we want to do!

Overall, a VERY nice kit to build, goes together simply amazingly well (compared to the S27 Renault R25) and the decals were pleasuresome to work with. So much so I buggered up two...

You'll notice the missing tow-hook. I was about to glue it on, as I was reacing for the glue, having pre-fitted it, my 15mth daughter came in, wanting to walk with me. I put it down somewhere where I will find it when I return. Needless to say...

Great work on the skyline decals!

I've been working on the interior bits for the GT1 and ever so slowly working on the exterior scratch building. Just ordered some more CF decals from SMS and I'll have to go buy some paint at some point to keep the build moving.

   The decals were very nice and went on very well...........Thank you Tamiya.  Now the C/F Ive been adding has been giving me FITS!!!!!!  I just dont seem to have good luck with Scale Motorsports C/F.  So I orderd some ST27 C/F I seem to have better luck with ST C/F.
