Hey Guys. It seems pretty quiet around this build, must be the changing seasons! Great start to the MotoGP season this weekend, I liked the way those bikes look under the floodlights.

I have been slowly building over the last few weeks, I took part in a Rally GB for my first attempt at a car and did this Rossi WRC Toyota Corolla

I also just completed this Rossi 2005 M1 in early season livery, using the MSM Creation decal set and the Studio27 2005/06 PE detail set. I added some CF work in hopefully the right places.

So time now to give some thought to what to tackle next, so many Rossi bikes so little time!

Bushpig: I like the podium build idea! Would be pretty easy to make a small diorama of that scene.

Regarding the Top Studio transkit it looks super sweet and from what I've heard the castings are up to Tamiya standards. BUT, it doesn't come with an 800 cc engine. You'll have to use the 2005 M1 engine from the donor kit. Will of coarse be hidden underneith the cowls but for a rivet counter it is not that interesting concidering the steep price.

Nice work Chris. I also like the pic of your collection, it is nice when they start to build up and you get a line up of bikes going. I need to finish a Max Biaggi Pons Honda from the 2004 season opening race and will then be able to set up the podium of the South African race (Rossi, Biaggi, Gibernau) I was there, what a day! Hmm maybe thats the next one to tackle.

Yammiefreak I cant answer re tamiya 800cc release but Top Studio have bought out an awesome transkit to do the 2008 M1, I am very tempted but at $217 will have to think hard before buying! have a look here:

Chris: Fabulous! I love the Fortuna liveries and I hope to do my kit soon. Unfortunately, when it comes to building, I'm in the same position as Yamafreak. Got a 8-months old girl and working full time trying to squeeze some training in and rest of the time I spend with wife and dog. I've started a small chopper project as the Revell kits are so easy. Couldn't keep from doing mods so now that build is as serious as all the others... I'm still putting some effort into the Marlboro bikes though and hopefully I can finish the ´99 version during spring. From May I'll be home with the little girl until New Years eve so hopefully I can spend some time at the desk when she's taking her naps.

Hi everyone! speaking of back to building......does anyone have a reliable source where to get the TABU 12010 Ducati Marlboro 2004....Jesus!!!!! someone must a have a set left!!!

The reason I want this kit is because it comes pre cut to go into the radiator vents and it matches the curves of the body.

I'm decals away from finishing the Duc.....any help will be appreciated.

Joel looking forward to seeing how these exhausts end up, I always like to learn new methods.

I realised I had not shown the completed Freddie Spencer NSR so here goes, all in all a very enjoyable build with no major dramas. What next??? I keep looking at the superdetail set from Top Studio for the Yammie M1 and may just have built up enough courage to start it, will think about it over the next few days!

I kept working on the exhaust systems. I had an idea to try Motometalix idea with the bronze color. I masked the welds up with cut masking tape;

I followed up with X-33 Bronze and some clear yellow over the welds. Did look quite crappy actually;

I painted Clear Smoke over the hole exhaust and then tried to tone everything down with X-20 Clear with Flat Base added (What kind of system is this?? Why not have a flat clear instead??) It didn't go flat, just even more shiny...

I picked out my Tamiya Weathering Master set and started to rub every pipe with the oil stain color. I really rubbed it in and then put some burnt blue on the lower ends and on the curves. Pictures don't make make the exhausts justice. I'll work a bit more to fade the blue out but over all I think it turned out REALLY good actually. Will follow up with some silver on the welds. Here you can compare the weathered and the unweathered pipes.

Hey Chris. Looking very nice indeed, I think you are building 2 very nice bikes here. I love the Youtube vid, man I wish I could walk with that much control!

Dont stress with the CF work, it will come good in time. BTW what brand of CF are you using, I really like the pattern?

One quick bit of advice if you want to get rid of the finger prints on the chrome bits (funny how they really only show up in photos!) I have found that using stainless steel Kitchen utensil cleaner wipes work briliantly. Here in SA they sell them in little packs, we use them to clean for instance the oven extractor cover etc

The colour is a deep red, not pinky as shown, but unfortunately my new phone's camera doesnt seem to be very good. I will try to get some better pictures when it has decals on and final detailing completed....

Looks great! An easy way of detailing that doesn't take to much time is to drill out the holes in the rear sprocket. I would have put a piece of CF on the rear sprocket cover as well. Highlightens that area very nice.

I think you've put a nice weathering on the sprockets and damper, I would suggest picking out the chain link rivets with another color, not black or dark grey, something subtle.

A few more pics, updates. Got to a wheels on stage today. Was hoping to get them done by the weekend as we are off skiing but doubt that will happen now.

Apologies for my c/f it never seems to go right, I always end up with some wrinkles. Tried my best this time but they are still there!

A rc211v is a rc211v, no matter the level of detail. KM and Fortuna liveries will make very nice addition to your model collection. Great work so far!

Hi everyone,

I have been quietly wokring away on my current build - the 2 RC211V's. One will be a stock out of the box build for the Konica Minolta Honda, and the other will be out of the box apart from it will be using the 2006 Marco Melandri Fortuna Decals.

Here are some progress pictures (sorry that none of mine are anywhere near as detailed as you, I give them as much time as I can spare - which isnt a lot to be honest!)

Hi Bushpig and thanks for your comments. The swing is standard kit part. I had to go check if I mixed up the swing arms between the 99/00 bikes and the two from the 01 kit but they all look the same.

I'll follow your tip on the frame issue. Hope it will look better.

Very off topic: For you guys that are doing chopper builds and want something extra, check out www.minitunning.com . I got myself a 300 mm wide rear tire and new rimbs + some extra bits and parts. They all look great and well worth the money.

WOW, looking gooood Joel! Really nice to see some work in progress on this build again. I love the way your wiring is coming together. The rear swingarm looks different to what I remember on the Biaggi bike I did a while ago, is it the kit standard part?

As for the superglue dot, I am a master at having to fix screw up's, my fat fingers just also let me down. A bit of patience, very fine waterpaper and a localised respray should take care of it nicely.

When these four beauties are finished it is going to make an awesome display.

Ok, time for some updates. I'm getting somewhere, atleast on one of the subjects....the 99 version.

I've described earlier that I try to drill out recessed areas, here are two rear calipers. Blurry but you get the picture.

Started working on the forks. The 99 version uses the older caliper mount style but the 00 version uses the newer two point mounted caliper. I had to steal the whole fork set-up from a ´01 yzr kit to get it right.

Top Studio sets are beautiful but seem fiddly for my fat fingers. I tried my own version of wiring instead.

Still a long way to go. Few more details to add on this one and then go copy the work on the other three sets... At least I can use this kit as a test dummy... did my fair share of mistakes on it so far, biggest issue is a large dot of super glue on the left side of the frame. Bugger.

welcome back Chris. I have found building more than one kit at a time a bit daunting, which is why I admire Joel doing the 3 yammies at once! there just never seems to be an end to what has to be done, the bonus though is once you are finsihed you have that many more additons to your collection.

I am on a bit of a backburner at the moment, damn work gets in the way of living some times! I have almost nothing left to do on the Rothmans bike and then just for fun have done a Rally car (Toyota Corrolla) in Valentino Rossi livery. It's coming together nicely and I will share pics once I am complete

happy modelling and have great holidays those of you who will take a break over the next few weeks

Hi everyone,

Its been a while since I posted anything in here, which is probably because its been a while since I have done any modelling. Anyway, just thought I would let you know that I started my first multiple build last night, i.e. I am going to try and do two models at the same time. They are both based on Tamiya's Konica Minolta RC211V, one will be out of the box but the other one will be done in a 2006 Marco Melandri Fortuna Paintscheme which I like very much. Lets hope they come out ok. I'll post pics up as and when but as yet there is nothing to show....

I am happy with this vote, I will keep on building and sharing progress as I go and lets see some other builds to get the interest going again.

I am just finishing a trip to Hong Kong and had to make some time to visit the model shops in Mong Kok, well worth it if anyone ever gets out this way. Sadly the 2 main guys who stock Studio27 products were away whilst I was here Anyway thats the way it goes I suppose.

So no more Moto GP for a while, have to stick close to my 1:12 paddock to ensure I dont get the shakes!

I'm for keeping it going.  What else is going to give us our Moto-fix now that the season's done?

Let it live! I think it comes and goes but a long life MotoGP thread is great as new viewers have a lot of pages to go through and a treasure box to find inspiration. If there is other GB ideas these could be held a lot more narrow to gather an interesting collection on a specific theme. I too will keep posting my general MotoGP builds in this thread. I've just had a slow period to nurse Elvira (wich is the name of my latest gem...:-) ) but just picked out the Marlboro bikes again yesterday.

So hang in there and I think we can kick some life in this thread

SeaBea nice to see you still lurking around.

I was beginning to debate the merit of keeping this build going, it really had some good energy for a while but just seems to have died. Maybe having these never ending things arent such a good idea afterall. 

What is the view of those still bothering to have a look, should we close it down.

Maybe someone else can get a similar thing going under a different name but add more urgency, I am easy either way as long as I can pop out completed models I am happy. I have just been so happy to be able to learn as well as share experience around the world.

And Joel, that kit really looks great. Hope you enjoy it! In fact, I'm sure you will. I have some of their 20th F1's and those are awesome - they're really setting the benchmark.

Is it just me missing the news or are there still no news regarding new kits? Not talking street bikes here, of course... Somewhat upsetting - the last one I am aware of came out quite a while ago.

My latest build has come together really fast. I thought I would just do a straight out the box NSR500 but using the Studio 27 decals to make the Freddie Spencer Rothmans version. I have finished the construction part, herewith pics. I have done the spray work on the fairings and now just have the decal work to do, hopefully they dont give me any issues. This has actually turned out to be quite a nice little kit. A little dated when compared to the latest offerings from Tamiya but still great quality. The only thing I again noticed is they did not include the positioning of the throttle cables in the instructions, very strange.
