Welcome back Bushpig!

That CM PE set seems really really nice. Have to try it out although I'm not too fond of PE...

Can anyone locate me a Repsol decal kit for the 2005 season?  A camel Honda kit for 05 would be nice too.  All my usual websites I look for have come up empty.  And by empty I mean I cannot find any at all, as in no listing.

Thanks,

Erik

Eric recent news on 2005 Honda's - "coming soon from Ragged Edge are the decals to build the '05 RCV 211 Camel bike, with all rider options in '05. 6 options in all"

Finished the Moriwaki NSR500 Honda at last. This was a complex paint job but turned out okay in the end.

The Dexter decals are a bit transparent though, so the white stripe "shines" a bit through the yellow number decals on the side covers but it is not that noticeable. I did not have this anywhere else since I had pre-sprayed the bike according to the colour pattern so I was placing a yellow decal over a yellow patch if you know what I mean. The white portions were all sprayed white and on the side covers I laid the Dexter white decal on top of the white painted portions and it looked fine, For the fairing white portions I sprayed white and then just added the black pinstripe. For the front number plate I again masked the yellow portion off and sprayed that yellow using only the black pinstripe from the decal, thus avoiding having to deal with the transparent decals or trying to get a decal to curve around a complex curve.

The decals did struggle a bit under Tamiya TS13 clear coat but I think I have managed to smooth it out under a clear coat it again. What I think is happening is where the decal does not adhere strongly to the model the TS 13 tends to cause a reaction with the decal, the older Tamiya decals seemed to be fine, not sure but using Tamiya TS 13 is indeed risky BUT the finish and shine it produces is in my opinion well worth the risk

Ahhh Andrew, how I would love to come and look into your display cabinet. Another fine build mate. I know we are all critical of our builds and tend to focus on the inevitable little mistakes that creep in, but this is again a superb example of your skill.

On the subject of 2006 versions it seems very quiet on the Yamaha M1 front. Does anyone know if the good Doctors versions are being worked on?

Hi Bushy,

MSM Creation will have out this month the decals for Rossi '06 bike and has rider as well.  Email me at redesigns89@hotmail.com for a picture of sheet, I will send Andrew one as well.

I know the seat is not the same on Tamiya kit '05 bike, but they did use the '05 bike in a race during '06 to find a cure for the vibrations.

First allow me commend you guys on some incredible builds!  I am simply amazed at the level of detail you all have committed to putting into each of your bikes.

8 years ago I was bitten by the 1/12 bug and was hooked into motorcycle modelling for awhile.   Since then, my interest in modelling has come and gone and is now shifted to aircraft modelling. Recently I was rumaging through my spares bin and motorcycle stash and stumbled across a few items I had forgotten about.  One thing that jumped out was an RGV lucky strike conversion kit I had purchased when it first came out(2000?).  I wish I remeber what I paid for it.  Don't think it was that expensive($40-50?).
I have scoured the internet as to if they even sell it anymore.  The only thing I could find was the Studio 27 LS conversion kit for 1994.  Mine is from the 1997 WGP with decals for Anthony Gobert, Daryll Beattie, and an unknown #7.  My jaw hit the floor when I saw this was retailing for $135!
My question is if my transkit is equal in value?  Has anyone else purchased the same transkit?

I apologize if this is in the wrong thread/forum.  Thanks for any and all info you could provide.

Hi and most welcome back to bike building (cause you are going to start that jewel, aren't you...???).

You are right about the price difference, seems to be a bit more white metal and PE in the newer -94 transkit but that doesn't sum up to more than double the price. Bike market has gone up definately. From what I have found looking through the web the -97 kit is out of stock everywhere and that should count for a bit higher price on the tag. But I think you shall build it.

Thanks for the info Joel.  I have been very reluctant to build this kit for quite sometime.  Mostly because I've wanted to get some more models under my belt before I tackle this one.(Don't want to screw it up :)

Now that my modelling interest has shifted to aircraft, I'm considering selling it on ebay.  Maybe I'll just hold onto it till my interest shifts back to bikes!
Thanks again.

Hi Guys. I need some advice. about to get going with the Rossi NSR transkit and as this is my first attempt at resin construction have a few questions i hope you can help me with.

Firstly am I correct in understanding the best way to glue resin parts together is good old superglue? My only thing with superglue is you have one chance to get it right! Whilst I am asking this, is there an alternative for sticking PE parts together that is a little more forgiving? Then in terms of painting is a primer necessary to ensure good paint adhesion? If so what brands do you recommend. Finally if I need to do some filling is normal Tamiya putty ok (I mean does it adhere OK and not fall out later!)

Hopefully Rossi can finally win in Turkey this weekend !

I'm not sure about the resin glue, but I've always used very small amounts of super glue just in case I don't get it right.

With PE parts (especially bolts) you can use a small dab of clear for an adhesive.  Works really well when placing over carbon fiber or decals.

I've always filled seams with squadron putty and have never had a problem.  I cannot imagine Tamiya making a poor product so I would say you should be good to go.

I'm not the be all end all of knowledge so I am sure if I have steered you wrong someone will correct me Big Smile [:D]

Bushpig:  I THINK you can use fingernail polish remover to un-do superglue when it's set.  Never tried it yet, I've got a Biaggi RC that I want to re-do, so I'll soon find out.  Not sure what the acetone in the polish remover will do to resin, one of our more astute members probably knows more.

Wolfpac:  Great scoop on the ZX-RR!  Too bad Big T hasn't put up any pics of it yet.  Wonder what year it will be? '06?

My builds are stalled what with getting ready for the move to Japan.  I'll have to set some time aside soon, I'm beginning to get the polystyrene DT's.

YF72: Think more info was added recently - it says 2006, decals for Nakano and de Puniet. But yes, this is about time! Now also on HLJ as pre-order - release-date June.

BushPig:  You can also use clear 2-part epoxy to glue the resin parts. Bit more smelly and messy to work with, but it does give you more time to allign stuff properly. I've also used clear and "Future" to hold small PE parts.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Any views / advice on my other question, is it necessary to use a primer when spraying resin parts and if so what brand etc?

Sorry man, missed that one! It's a definate yes! I allways prime my resin. And allways with Tamiya rattlecans. I use white primer under bright colours, well, mostly actually. The gray I use when I'm sanding and prepping. The weird thing with the gray is that it shows up imperfections spectacularly! So to make sure all is smoooth, I first use that, then white over it, if work (more than normal prep sanding) is needed. If it's just a part that you prep-sand, I go with white straight and then the colour. White allways to be used with colours that have some transluscency to them!

Good luck and enjoy!

After almost a year away from modeling I have decided to get back in.  I recently purchased most of my items needed to get going and received my first kit in the mail.

I've already stirpped the chrome parts using the bleach method, and washed with liquid detergent all of the parts.  I expect the rest of my supplies to be here on Tuesday so I can get busy.  It will be a straight build with some CF decals added.  Nothing fancy.

Wolfpac,

Welcome back.  The Konica Minolta bike has a really nice scheme IMHO.  Should be one pretty bike when done.  I don't have that kit yet, the Mrs. won't let me buy anymore until I finish the 6 I have now, but I am curious as to how the '06 RC build up differs from the previous versions.  Looking forward to your pics.  Great signature line, by the way.

I love the look of the Konica Minolta bike.  There is a decal sheet from Renesaince (sp?) for the Batman Begins theme from the Assen race.  I was thinking of either picking that up or doing a 2005 Telefonica Movistar.  I actually bought 2 kits of the Konica Minolta bike, as I was unsure how complex the decals were going to be (I'm known for destroying decals).  I figured as long as I don't destroy a part I should be able to use an aftermarket decal for the second bike.

Hi there,

I am also doing the Minolta and Danni RCV bikes. Steve from www.hiroboy .com, makes ZERO paint and has available the cool Minolta Pearl White as Tamiyas looks a bit cream coloured. They are a base coat and need clear over them but thats no big deal.

I am also getting the Pedrosa Repsol colours so will tell you mob how they look.

Cheers  Rod.  ;-)

I've noticed the telefonica blue they have and plan on ordering it for my next build.  I'm not going to wait 7-14 days for paint to arrive for this project, especially when I have allready ordered the Tamiya TS for it Sad [:(]

Progress update. I am currently doing the following Bikes:

1998 Barros NSR 500 have primed and sprayed all parts white. Still have to make some of the masks but have found a small error on the decal sheet with the white portion on the front of the fairing the shape is incorrect. Sad [:(]. The scheme is quite complex so I have been putting it off for a while but will be starting the other colours this week-end if the weather co-operatesBig Smile [:D]

Lucky Strike 1998 NSR500 have primed and sprayed all parts white. Will make the masks this week-end and spray all the remaining parts Italian Red and I am going to experiment with a coat of Fluorescent Red (Tamiya MS-8) over the Italian Red to see if it produces a deeper shine Whistling [:-^]

Konica Minolta RCV211V 2005 "Batman Version" have primed and sprayed most body parts white hassling a bit with the seat pan with the joints,  Shock [:O] but should have it sorted in a day or two. I plan to paint all the parts Pure White and then a single coat of Pearl White (TS 45). Decalman I cannot get the other colours you mentioned so I will be stuck with the Tamiya Pearl White, Confused [%-)] but I will do a test spray first and check the colour and maybe leave it white if the Pearl white is too "cream"? What do you think? Confused [%-)]

Yamaha YZR-M1 50th Anniversary USA "Inter-colouring" Busy prepping the parts for painting. Exhaust parts were not the best fit in the world but the rest of the bike looks great. I plan to paint the white portions and not use the decals since I prefer to paint as much as possible. I will use the decal to make a mask for the white portion

"Modelling Wives"

Hi YF72 ----the 2006 Honda kit is very nice indeed and you do end up with a stack of additional parts on the sprue. Big Smile [:D] I have six kits on the go but the wife is a great sport and I am usually "allowed" to buy three of each Tamiya kit when it comes out at HLJ. One for the collection, One to build and One for the decals that Decalman or others bring out. The wife reckons that since I have not other "vices" and modelling keeps me at home and out her hair she is happy for me to buy what I need. There is a catch though each time I place an order at HLJ I also get an order for her hobby and that does put a brake on the spending but that goodness for "modelling wives" Make a Toast [#toast]

Is this the Emerson bike?  I was thinking of picking set up to build it but if it is as complex as you say I may have to hold off until my skills improve.

Small update.

Painted the engine with Alclad Steel and the radiator with Alclad Aluminum (as well as various other engine components not pictured).  Also working on getting the seams filled in.  This is the hardest part of modeling for me.  It's almost hard enough to make me quit, almost.

Hi Wolfpac

This is not the Emerson Bike but a very colourful colour scheme modelled after the Brazilian Flag. The decal sheet is from Ragged Edge and has all the logos and white bits but most of the spraying must be masked, the decal sheet does come with some masking templates so it should be do-able. The difficulty is that the colour separation lines do not have any "cheat lines" i.e. the black or gold strips that could cover a masking line that is not 100%. So it needs some careful masking. The scheme also has overlapping colours ei the first colour is white, followed by yellow then green then blue. With the green and blue it will be better to spray a silver coat first to "neutralise" the colour first?

The scheme is beautiful and very very colourful, just a bit tricky and a steady hand will be needed to spray and mask the front mudguard, tank and tail piece. The rest should be easy enough

The Emerson scheme and decals that I have look easy enough to do basically a black and white scheme and the black comes as decals anyway so if you feel like doing it go ahead it is a very nice colour scheme

Hi,

a little tip I used on the Barros bike Andrew, when you are doing the Metalic Blue on the Barros bike no need to undercoat as the Blue and Green metalic paints have the silver as part of colour. I just gave the paint jobs, 2 coats and it blocked great, its only going over white and yellow which are light colours.

Also,if you have some light coloured spare decal, paint it the Blue met' colour, then cut out the  portion for the radiator outlets using mask's. (curved half round bits) Looks better that way and much easier.  Really the whole paint job is easy with the masks included, just the tank is a little bit harder. I built 2 so far and sent 1 to the printer. ;-)

Bushy, I have a spare Emmerson sheet if you are interested ?

Rod.

Hi Rod I will pass on the decal sheet but thanks anyway.

Update on my Valencia NSR500. Going a little slowly this week, just spent a lot of time cleaning up the resin parts and had to fill in a few air bubble holes, dents and chips but nothing major. Ready now to lay on the primer coat. Also started on the engine and had to do the first bit of "surgery" removing the old air intakes. So far so good but a long way to go.

looking good. The colours look very authentic, I have never quite been satisfied when I have followed the Tamiya guidelines Sad [:(] The clutch looks superb, is it the metal one in the kit? What did you use for the bolts on the clutch, they look great.

Man that Ducati was fast yesterday, a full 12km / hour top speed on the next fastest, some advantage!
