Sign - Ditto [#ditto] That is one cool looking scheme Frank that I had not seen before.  Learn something new all the time.

Aaron, I've heard nothing good about FM either.  Kudos to you for diving into  those treacherous waters.

Aaron,

Thanks!  For those profiles, I use a site called Wings Palette.  They have a lot of different profiles for many aircraft, but the site can be a little quirky at times.  Be careful though, their info can range from pretty close to way off so I use it mostly for inspiration. Big Smile [:D]

Dave- Thanks mate!  AAACK!!!  You changed your avatar again! Shock [:O]

Ritchie have you been watching Hee Haw again?  Roy Clark will want his honeys back! LOL!

 Dave? Is that you?

Is there a story behind this? I mean I got the nekid Calvin streaker! That seemed like your wild man personna! LOL!

Taking a bit of a clean up break today. The disorganization was just getting too deep!  Gotta find some tools and ref books anyways to do it justice. The Bombay is quite complex structerally. Should be fun! Banged Head [banghead]

FRank musta just been teasing us promising prop shots!

Bondo! What you working on now? You keep sneaking in these great builds! I almost missed your Mavis!  Any luck finding your yoke? yuk yuk yuk! Laugh [(-D]Make a Toast [#toast] That may be a sign you need to change brands of rum! Stay

Aaron, thanks for the help. I think I will "prime" the corsair in black, then shoot it with the insignia blue. I'm working on it now!

Aaron,

Bombay is structurally complex?  I thought all you had to do is twist off the cap and pour!Pirate [oX)]Make a Toast [#toast]  Don't forget the Houston contest this weekend.

Was gone the last 2 days. Anyhow, I want to get a lot of work done today. About paint, I can't find an acrylic gloss dark sea blue, or even sea blue. Would Insignia blue with a little black and a brighter blue suffice? I know paint mixes of the 50's wern't exactly precise as they are today. And also, I just thought up a (I think) brilliant way of replacing raised panel lines. Make a small ring of clay around a well-formed panel line (And rivets should work). Then pour a thin sillicone mold in there. After it dries, you have a mold for panel lines. Now I can cast them, and replace the lost ones when sanding. Re-scribing might be far more accurate, but I can't scribe a fuselage to save my life. I'll post pics in a while. How about my paint dilemma? Make a big batch of mixed paint? I think it should work. Oh, and I can't stand gloss finishes on millitary planes. Would a semi-gloss be somewhat accurate? Thanks for any help you can give. Thanks,

Graham,

What paint scheme are you doing your Corsair in?  Model Master makes Glossy Sea Blue and Intermediate blue in their enamel bottle and spray bomb lines.  Tamiya has them as well in both acrylic and lacquer spray (I used the Intermediate Blue on my A-wing).  Don't know about MM's acrylic line as I've never used them.  Glossy Sea Blue is more of a semi gloss finish.

I spent a day and a night there in transit and it is the worst place on earth, except maybe Seoul. Oh no, not Houston, Mumbai! Houston is not far behind, though. Very structurally complex. I'll take New Delhi any day.

IT's overall dark sea blue. My Hobby Town doesn't carry the color in  ACryl, and they won't put in a special order for me. I can't stand super-gloss finishes, I'll overcoat with a semi-gloss when painted. I might throw a little bit of future to make a little more shine, but that's it.

Graham,

If you can get it, Model Masters Glossy Sea Blue out of the rattle can is what you're looking for.  Take a look http://public.fotki.com/lewbud/fine-scale-group-builds/aoshima-f7f to see what I mean.  Here's a pic from the Naval Aviation Musuem in Pensacola  http://public.fotki.com/lewbud/aircraft/korea/f7f-tigercat/  Hope this helps.

EDIT:  If you want pics of some Corsairs, I can upload those too.

Thanks for the info. I'm not trying to superdetail this one, the detail is so bad that it would take a LOT of effort to correct it. I mean, I'm leaving raised panel lines on the fuselage and wings! lol! I'll see what my hobbytown has in the rattle can line. Thanks for the help. I'll post pics of my progress when I get the chance.

Does anyone have a good photo or profile of the camo scheme on the FAA Corsair I and II?  I have good profile side views, but nothing showing the wings and tailplanes. Sigh [sigh]

Well I managed a day of tomorrow!  Think Dee and I shall take in that IPMS Model Mania Show in Houston. It's at the Stafford Center where she went to a Rick Springfield concert of all things.  I shall charge up the Camera  and see what these shows are all about.

Hope to see Lewbud there!  Maybe get a few pics before Dee gets security called on her and we are ask to leave. Pirate [oX)]

Question for you fellas...

I have two Corsairs ready for paint, but cannot decide which one to do first.  I only have enough parts holders to paint one at a time.  Any ideas?

Frank, i would alternate between them!!! Get base coat on one, then base on the other. Maybe by the time you get back to the first one it should be cured enough for the secondary color. My My 2 cents [2c] on the matter lol

Frank,  you mean you can't cut another block of styro or splurge on another box of tooth pics?!?!?!Confused [%-)]  Wink [;)]

Question for you Frank while I am at it.  I'm painting my corsair and wondering about the whole soft vs. hard edge for the tri-color camo scheme.  I've seen both!  Any tips?

Just to p*ss Aaron off I'm voting for the FAA scheme first.

OK, I have Aaron and Richie with the Night Fighter, and Dave and Richie with the FAA bird.  Now what do I do? Confused [%-)]

Anyone else?

Dave-

I believe these are retouched photos, but the camo demarcation lines look pretty soft to me.  I would go with a paper mask off of the surface to get that light feather to the edge. Thumbs Up [tup]

Darn you Frank...  You keep posting these Corsair pics and now I have to build at least three more of them.  A nightfighter, FAA and an Atlantic Scheme... Grumpy [|(]Propeller [8-]  I love that top photo!!! Thumbs Up [tup]
