Aaron,

Got to rethink this whole doing something different thing.  I took Latin in high school to do something different.  Very few girls, although I did meet the second great love of my life at a Latin contest.Tongue [:P]  Alas it was not meant to be.Sigh [sigh]  Build models to be different, not a lot girls.  Like I said got to rethink this.

Capt. Bondo-if we follow orders and drain the rum keg, a seismograph of 7.0 earthquake will be a straiter line than what this old tub will sail.  Looking forward to more pics of that surface target you're building over in the ships forum.

Also, just want to note I have gone end-stage with the Wildcat.  Painting the canopy now (well, obviously I am typing right now, but I am letting the interrior color dry before painting exterior color Big Smile [:D] )  Painting and affixing the canopy is all that is left to do.  I am a little disappointed though.  I took a suggestion from the armor forum and ued Krylon matte clear and got some odd paint crinkling on the Tamiya acrylic basecoat I used, AND the fuselage decals have some white spotting on them because of it.  Oh well, lesson learned and thankfully the decals are the only thing that is really noticably wrong.  I went and picked up some Vallejo satin acrylic clear which seems to be Mig Jiminez's favorite.  Used it on a 1/35 figure and can see it will now be me clear coat of choice........

Hello Chaps!Pirate [oX)]

sorry for my absence of late, I've been more busy than usual on my days off! What benchtime I've had has been spent tinkering with the Seafury and the 109-G-10 for Franks GB.

I also started my Arnhem dio yesterday-you can follow that one on the Dio forum, I plan to spend a long time on the dio but my two other airframes should be finished by the May 1st start date for FAA GB II.

I will be building my FAA Avenger in the markings of a squadron that was based at my local NAS during WWII. Approve [^]

In the meantime, I'm back to work for another set of shifts so I'll pop in from time to time when I can.   Take care and try and behave yourselves!Mischief [:-,]Big Smile [:D]

Ah there be the CAG!  I am glad the TBD won out! It will be a sharp looking Turkey? Did the English have a Nick Name for it as well. The Wildcat was the Marlet and the P-40 a Tomohawk/ Kitty hawk?  What did the call those Avengers?  I'll have to look that up!

Hmmm Is Frank still planning on the Swordfish? If so it should be  a Torpedo Bomber extravagansa!  I think I'll jump on that band wagon as well!   I plan on going hog wild!

Now why are things so quiet? Nam is still awol and Bondo is at the beach House!  Frank is flittering about and all else seem to be having visions of Sugar Plums in there head?  Oh the wonders of the FAA! Laugh [(-D]Pirate [oX)]

Guess it's you and me today CAG!  Hmmm what to do?

I guess we have to make the sacrifice Darren?  Where'd you leave the tanning lotion?

Well, I guess it be me to start the weekend off right....I be calling the Wildcat DONE.  But first, before pictures, a wee sea chanty for the ole gal:

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

This here Cat be ready to run

She may not be pretty

She may not be clean

But this here Kitty be mighty mean

So ye better be honest

Ye better fight clean

For this here Wildcat be flown by Marines!

Now fer the pictures:

Port side

Head on

Starboard side

Overall I don't think she came out too bad for my second aircraft build and my first stab at weathering.  I learned my lesson about one thing....DO NOT USE Krylon Matte spray!  It spotted up my decals (which don't show too much in these pictures thankfully!)  I still think I have things to learn, but that is what this is all about!  At the very least I am now excited to get into May for the start of the FAA builds!

Well done Brian! Approve [^]  She certainly looks like she means business.  I would call your second build and first weathering attempt a smashing success.  Now, grab yourself a mug and let's toast!

CAG I feel your pain as I am working thru the weekend as well!  Be glad to see ya get a few days off to show what you have accomplished!  April huh?  Oh boy that's like soon!

Krylon is a hot lacquer. At best, it only works if you decant it into the XO's mug and let it sit for a couple hours while it degasses it's fumes, then tip it into the ol' a'brush. But hell, I use glosscote followed by dullcote and it works like a charm. The XO seems no less the worse for wear either. Think the treads mighta been funning you, son.

Beautiful little Grumman, and worth a seat in the Captains mess for a treat, you bring the Claret. That's such a complicated landing gear and it all looks straight as a pin. Captain Roy's on watch this night, so let's all take a few shells from the carronade magazine and go bowling!!

Raise a mug, I'm back from the shore more or less in one piece, although there was a nasty little piece of business involving some tax men coming across in the CAG's launch and a keg of MEK with a fuse, but that's all up in smoke now!

Thank ye gents for the kind words!  I appreciate it!  Every piece of plastic finished turns me closer to a better modeler!  Yargh! Big Smile [:D]

Bondoman, that Krylon be getting the Captina's Mast from me.  Deriliction of duty I sez!  I have since found me a new love in the clear coat world, a fine Spanish maiden by the name of Vallejo clear satin acrylic varnish.  Used it on a 1/35 figure to seal up me base paints and she performed admirably!  The Sea Harrier will look a whole lot better.

Brian

P.S. Ahh yes, the wonderful thing about pictures...they bring out yer mistakes.  I notice I forgot one minor detail....the clear piece that covers the gun camera hole in the Port wing. Oops!  I'll fix that right away...after me drink o' course! Big Smile [:D]

Beautiful Wildcat Brian.  I've heard many good things about vallejo paints and I'll have to give that Varnish a try now too.

That is awesome! Thumbs Up [tup] The weathering on that cat looks good too me!

About my corsair, it's a F4F-4 and I didn't look too close at the box. It has options for 2 planes, both Korea. That was fine, then I noticed both were Marine planes! I had to check here and was much relieved to see Marine planes were accepted... Anyway, I hope to be cleaning off my bench soon and begin on the cockpit of this plane!

Nice Wildcat now that I can see it. For some reason yesterday all I was getting was the dreaded red X (but I guess better than the dreaded redheaded ex...).

Thanks for the kind words folks!  I can't wait to crack open the Sea Harrier in a couple months.  I picked up a 1/72 F-89J Scorpion I may fiddle with before the Sea Harrier.  The Scorpion is an Academy kit, and I was surprised at the detailed cockpit!  I really am excited because evrything I have bought or built to date had propellors, so wirking on a couple jets should be an interesting change of pace.  Plus, with the Sea Harrier the cockpit is pretty darn sparse (read that to mean UGLY) so I am going to try my first attempt at Photo Etch with a simple cockpit set from Eduard.  Should be a blast!
