Gentlemen-

With the change-over to the FAAGB on Friday, and the CAG being away on other business, I thought it might help him out upon his return to have a list of who's doing what to what.  If you would be so kind, please take a moment to write what you plan on building and I will compile the list and PM it to him when he has returned.  I shall also keep this post updated with the list so all can see!

Well lads, the Corsair went in for the final coats and is now a two tone bird.  Will post pics after she's dried out.  Thought I had gloss gull gray and turns out it was flat, now I get to play with Future for the first time.  Speaking of piccies, Graham, I know you're a busy lad but post some pics of your bird soon as that will keep the buzzards that call themselves crew somewhat mollified.  As to my FAA bird, will be a divine scale Sea Fury.  Trumpy or Airfix, I don't know yet.  Will probably do both as I like both schemes in the Trumpeter box.  Off for my weekly shower then headed north to build ground targets.

Buddy; better practice first. I did a series of airliner models with gloss Future finishes, and personally think it's pretty so-so. It looks thick, will darken your colors, and while pretty forgiving can run or collect in low spots. I much prefer testors Gloscote, just my 2 cents.

Hmmmmm I am going to build a model!  Probably British and definately an Airplane!  WW II without question.  Did that narrow it down any?

This maybe pretty ambitious but we have a whole year right?  * models in the stash that fit the bill.  The Albacore is screaming at me!  While the Swordfish is last priority wise as Frank and Guy have that covered in 1/48. I think I am remembering correctly when Guy said he is doing the 1/48 Tamiya Mk I and Frank the MkII . Should be interesting to see the diffs. Ritchie has an outstanding 1/72 Swordfish in progress 1 page back as well.

To simplify the list for you Frank here is my intentions if I must commit!

 Special Hobby 1/48 Albacore

Special Hobby 1/48  Fairy Barracuda Mk 5 backdated to a MK II or III for WWII

Smer 1/48 Walrus

Special Hobby 1/48  Skua and Roc as a twin build. ( Fraternal)

Edward 1/48 Fulmer

And a Revell 1/32 Seafire. Wasn't the Cag's black beauty a 1/32 as well?

The order may change with my mood but I figure 1 a month with a few to spare is doable!

Now as far as CPT Bondo's sub subject of the Coastal Command I have a super secret project just for that and only about 3 people here know about it.  One is Guy and he can't keep a secret so we may have to quarentine him.

I dunno Bondo has been very quiet! Has anyone noticed that he has gotten a little plumper with each vanishing crew member? Shock [:O]Dead [xx(]

The order of my build may change as the mood hits me  but I will save the Swordfish for last that way It may get finished the same time as Frank's?  Laugh [(-D] OOOOH that was bad! Sorry Frank! Make a Toast [#toast]

Seeing as Frank is an XO and im a Bosun, do i have to bow to him, Never!! I tells Ya, Never!!!!

So my contribution is going to be the Tamiya Swordfish in 1/72 (+Goody city) I also have an Airfix Sunderland, so i may throw that into the fray along with Bondos. I think that is all the FAA subjects i have, but you never know, i may buy more.

Aaron, dont you have a resin 1/48 Sunderland? Surely that would go well in this GB LOL

Tamiya makes a Swordfish in 1/72?  With PE?  Thought it was 1/48. I am losing it.

Nope I absolutely do not have the Alpha Flights 1/48 Sunderland that looks like this.

I am set and ready for the FAA round with the Tamiya 1/48 Sea Harrier.  But somehow I have a feeling this will not be all she wrote for me.  I mean, a whole year....thats waaay plenty time for another build!  I have been eyeballing a 1/32 Revell Seafire but may go smaller due to space constraints though.  Either way I am not sure about WHAT I will do for a second build, but am sure I will give another a go.  So for right now it is the Sea Harrier, but with something else in the works Big Smile [:D]

Brian- I added the Boston to the list! Big Smile [:D]

Aaron- Any idea how heavy that Sunderland is?  Being full resin, I bet she's heavy!

I finished adding the decals to the night fighter this evening, not very many in fact.  From the photos I have, it looks like most stenciling was painted over during it's repaints.  So, I added only the stars, serial number, tape over fuel hatch, and the number "12" to both front gear doors.  Here's how she looks right now:

Frank! That is the coolest Corsair Ever!!! That paint scheme looks almost like a racer to me! Very  sensational! I cannot believe no one has offered that look in a kit option!

The Sunderland actually is very light! The box is no heavier than any large styrene kit.  All the parts are hollow as a plastic kit would be. There is a full interior included and the large Fuselage halves and wing halves are perfect dry fits!  Good as a Tamiya minus locating pins. Looks very nice and is the best made resin kit I have ever seen. I shall Pm you some pics ok! It was a little pricey but for what it is I would say fairly priced. Just hard to get! I got lucky!

But That can hold for now lets take a few more looks at that Amazing looking Corsair! WOW!  Almost near to being not quite finished!

Thanks Aaron! Big Smile [:D]

I agree- it's quite different looking.  It will be nice to add a couple of differently painted ones to my display case.  My goal is to have all of the paint schemes the Corsair wore.  At my pace, I had better switch over to only Corsair production or I will never finish! Shock [:O]

That's crazy that it's so light, but very cool that the dry fit is so good!  Hope it is as easy as it sounds.  After that Ventura, everything must seem easy!  Even squeezing in and out of that Miata! Big Smile [:D]

Frank,

You mean God builds in something other than 1/72?Confused [%-)]

Bondo,

Thanks for the tip.  Being a car guy, I wonder if I might be able to buff the flat to an acceptable smoothness so the decals won't silver.

Most excellent build, XO. In particular, the quality of the layers of paint are just beautiful. A master with the a/b. I take slapping on paint way too lightly and really need to bear down...

Lewbud, generally buffing paint is a no go because it comes off the raised detail first. Don't get me wrong, manies the best who swear by Future. I just happen to like to be able to dust on coats.

LtCmr Sfmac a fine subject. Cripes in a bucket o'sardines that'll scare off a few U-boats. Looks good, could not find the props in the piccies, hope they are there. Reckon we've got a crew assembled, if Bosun Guy, be the boat and dock handler. Right seat for you mate, and tally ho!

The usual place to start is Wiki, which lists abt two dozen squadrons w/ the Sunderland, only I figure more'n a few had a singleton or two for air-sea rescue. Like to sort out actual subjects, mates. As the Whitley be gray over white, the Sundy from here may be gray/green over black, or sky.

There's a wind on Belfast Lough, men, and it'd be a fine Friday, being Friday and being the first and all.

So report to the works posthaste.

Frank, that is one sweet looking Corsair!!!  Propeller [8-]Tongue [:P]Propeller [8-]  I'm really digging that colour scheme.

As for the FAA build I have an airfix 1/72 Gladiator based at Malta and will try to dig something up for Bondo's side build for Coastal Command as well.  Already did the Sunderland once Dead [xx(] not too anxious to do it again but I'm looking forward to seeing the others tackle it.  Seems to me the CAG picked one up last year too.

My Corsair is almost there.  Just can't seem to get much time at the bench these days but should be posting pics soon.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL FRANK!!!!!Bow [bow]

Frank, I am in with the continuation of the ones already started. Continuation of the 1/72 Airfix/Revell Swordfish in progress, the 1/72 Italeri F4U-4B, and the addition of 1/48 Airfix Buccaneer (ex-RN), possible additions later on in the build could be 1/72 Airfix Sea Fury, Fairey Fulmar, Westland Lynx Mk.8

Bondo,

Trust me, I'm well aware of rubbing through the paint on raised detail.  There's very little raised detail on this bird so that shouldn't be a problem.  I used some tape I got at the local clubs Christmas party last year and it lifted in a couple of spots (was told it was the same as Tamiya's, it's not), so I'll have to see if I can buff the gray off the white.  I've changed my markings from the A-7E Desert Storm bird to the CO's aircraft of VA-93 complete with shark mouth.  Pics can be found at http://public.fotki.com/lewbud/fine-scale-group-builds/navair-group-build/

Buddy that is an A-7E why I was thinking F4U? Musta been Dave's fault.... ahem ahem, Laugh [(-D]Pirate [oX)]

Looks like it is going together very well!  I like the SHark Mouth Markings. We used to track and target A-7's with similar markings, Shark mouthed at least back in 1984-85!  Ah the glory days of the cold war! Before things got complicated.

Ritchie I love your swordfish! You can't rush it , for it is like a fine wine that must be aged to perfection!  You know Frank... he is just to preoccupied with chasing skirts!   His theory is if he does enough F4U Corsairs eventually one will look kinda sorta ok! Taped Shut [XX] Shock [:O]

Ha Ha had you going there for a minute didn't I? Frank you know I gage my stuff off your perfectionist standards!

Dave! Where ya been! Gettin busy since things are thawing out I bet!

CPT Bondo! I thank ye for yer appruvial!  Also agree that 1/72 Hasegawa Mavis was a dream boat build! There was a link on our missing mascot's  LtCmdr Nammy's PBY GB that has great Sunderland pictures along with other sea birds! Worth a look to be sure!

You were thinking, that was your problem!Laugh [(-D]  Thanks for the complement though.  Thanks Richie as well.  Was able to buff off the gray overspray, then I remasked the nose and hit it with some Tamiya white primer.  Will follow the wise Bondo's advice and use Glosscote.  Aaron, you haven't floated away yet have ?  Talked to my dad in Katy, and he said ya'll got another 11 inches of rain last night.  Wish ya'll could send it back north as we've got some lakes that need to be filled up here.

Aaron on that seawings site, theres a link to Poole Seaplanes. Thats where im from in the UK, Poole. Ive always loved Sunderlands and thats probably the reason. One of the slipways is still there and now used by SBS (Specialised Boat Squad).

Really looking forward to starting the 1/48 Swordfish. Did you get that, you smart arses LOL.

I got tomorrow off so i need to get knuckling down to clearing the bench. I have a package to collect as well. I didnt order anything that i remember. mmm, exciting.

Been that way almost all week.  No flooding for us this time but I heard up north they had to even open shelters.  Wish they did have a way to spread it out some.
