Nice score Darren ,   Glad you're doing your best to keep the Vendors solvent.  One question on the English breakfast though,  No Rum ??

Darren- Nice haul, mate!  Sounds like you had a heck of a time there, wish I coulda been there!  That's a mighty large pile of loot ya' got there too!  As for the stencils, I got the wing walkways on, the trestle markings on the underside, and a couple of others on top too.  The ones I really wanted to use but couldn't are the prop blade markings and fuel capacity ones.  Did you give the Airfix guys a hard time for me?

sausages, eggs, bacon ,hashbrowns, tomartoes, mushrooms, beans ,toast , orange juice and of course...tea. YUM!

As for the Gannet.....well, i've been waiting for that bad boy for a while now and it was going for a steal. It had to be done......

Glad to see Rememberence Sunday was remembered here on FSM. Thanks lads. At 11.00 the UK nats fell silent as a lone bugle sounded throughout the three halls.

The weekend was great! We had a brilliant time and it went by all too quickly. We spent two days surrounded by great models, great trade stands and great people. Had a "few" drinks on Saturday evening.............. and a slap up full english breakfast in the morning. So we could go and do it all again!

I spent a few of my had won pennies too! Well, if you find yourself in the worlds largest model store its rude not to..........

I added a few more decals to LA546, some stencils and the wing walkways.  The black stencils in the kit were mostly usable, but the red and yellow were WAY too out of register to use.

Hey Guys, I was watching Brett Green's video on Hyperscale's site of the opening day of the UK Nationals and I swear I saw Darren walking around in the background.  Of, course he's in disguse 'cause he's skipping out of work but I swear it's him...  Check out the guy in the background of this image...  what d'ya think is it him?

Roy- I did just put the decals on, and finally got a coat of clear on em the other day.  But, I realize I still have more decals to apply and then the exhaust stains, washes, fiddly bits, etc etc.  Got a ways to go yet, my friend!  As for my next FAA build, I am still thinking about the Corsair I had originally started here.  Even though I botched the paint, I was able to salvage quite a bit of it so the next one should be relatively easy. (I know, famous last words!)  The cockpit is done, prop, engine, cowl, landing gear, flaps, outer wings, tail parts, and canopy pieces are done and ready!

Roger- Sorry to hear about the possible bad news coming, and the sky-high rent!  Hopefully, it will work out for the best for you.  Please keep us posted, I always like hearing how everyone is doing!

Dave- No worries on the gift exchange, mate!  That one looks to be a lot of fun as well, and I can definately understand why you wouldn't want to have two of them going!  Looking forward to seeing the Fulmar WIP pics, be sure to post lots!

Roger, Remebrance day (in the British Commonwealth at least) is held at the same time as when the Armistice for World War I was signed which happened to be on November 11th at the 11th hour.

Sounds like you guys are having fun with the gift exchange.  Sorry I'm not taking part but I had already signed up for the Secret Santa one and I don't think I can handle both finacially right now (Nor would I want to explain to my wife why I signed up for two gift exchanges - she'll think I'm just being greedy)  Cheers!

I know i haven't been on much lately the last few days, so here goes:

First off to Darren, they will be remembered here. Brothers in Arms knows no nationalities, after all. We had a few "Toms" working with us out on the flight line out in the desert, and they were good guys all (even if one of them did sound kinda like Harry Potter in his speech).

But if i might ask, what is the significance of the 11th with the minute, hour, day and month? Pardon my ignorance, but i would love to know the background on the custom.

 I've had no work done in the bench the last week or so really. The Flight Facility here is undergoing some changes, and it looks like it might have a negative affect on me here. On top of that, the landlord just raised my rent to ungodly amounts, so it seems that i'll be looking for another place to set up the bench. Gonna be kinda interesting to see how all that works out...

But i did do my shopping for the FAA Gift Exchange, and i have to admit, that was fun! I'd found another very small LHS not far away and it was great to check out! The ownders got finished builds all in glass cases, and they looked museum quality! It's a shame the owner wasn't working today, cause it wouldn't have surprised me in the least to know that he posted here! Some of em looked awfully familiar here.

   But back to shopping; I originally went in there with something else in mind for my recipient. But sufficed to say that all that went out the window looking at what was in stock! Now, i understand that i have an odd sense of humor, but i saw one particular kit that fit the criteria that just made me laugh out loud, that i knew i had to get it! All in all, a good weekend for me thus far!

   Oh, and going back to those Brits out in the desert? They actually shared some of their tea and crumpets with me on a cold Afghanie morning. I have to say that nothing can quite warm ya up like that! My

This goes to the conversation we had about crumpets.  I have looked in a number of stores and the closest I can come are English Muffins.  I did how ever find this:

The distinguishing features of real crumpets are their pliable texture and the characteristic holes all over the top surface, into which the generously spread butter, melts so enticingly. They are made with a rather thin yeast batter and are cooked on a bake stone in crumpet rings which are about 1" deep x 3-3½" round. Metal scone or pastry cutters make a good substitute. Makes 12 - 14 crumpets.

3 cups plain white flour
2 teaspoons dry active yeast
2 3/4 cups of warm water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp of sugar or honey
2 TBS powdered milk
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 TBS of warm water

Combine yeast, sugar and one cup of warm water into a mixing bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and stand in a warm place for about ten minutes. During this time the liquid should develop a foamy head, showing that the yeast is active.
Sift flour, milk and salt into another bowl, and mix well. Make a well in the center of the flour; add the yeasty water and the rest of the warm water.
Using a wooden spoon, mix to a thick batter. Cover with plastic wrap, and stand in a warm place until well risen and bubbly. This will take about an hour. The batter doesn't rise dramatically, but it does expand somewhat, and the mixture takes on gases, which are necessary in the cooking process.
Combine the bicarbonate of soda and the extra water, and add this mix to the dough. MIX WELL. Then leave this mixture to stand, covered, in a warm place for a further 15 minutes.
Preheat a heavy based fry pan to a low heat such that oils will not burn or smoke
Spray oils also allow you to coat the crumpet rings as you are ready to cook. Place enough mixture into the center of each ring to come almost to the top of the ring. (The dough does rise during cooking, and this should be allowed for in the filling of the ring.) Cook for 4-8 minutes over medium heat, until bubbles appear over the entire surface, and the dough appears 'dry'.
Remove the ring, turn the crumpet over and cook an additional 30 to 60 seconds to brown the top. Remove from the pan and cool on a cake rack.
If you find that the bottom is too dark (politely referred to as burnt), you are cooking too quickly. Slow it down, relax, and try again. The worst thing that can happen is that you have to make another batch.

So, Darren, do crumpets go with ale?  We know Rum butter is yummmmmmy

Good news my order is on it's way from Great Models  I'm using the Techmod FAA Corsair II decals and Floquil colors 34504 Sky, 36118 EX dark sea grey, 34096 dark slt grey with 34226 Br. interior grey green.  I hope I got the colors right   If all goes well I will at long last start my FAA Corsair

More good news my friends.  I'm working on the recipe for the first offical FAA homebrew.  I'm thinking a British ale (seems only fitting plus in honor of our leader Darren ) with plenty of hopes
