Five drinks later...........................

Ah, ahem! Yes, gather round chaps for the latest sit rep on the Hawk........

Well, I have carried out some minor surgery and the flaps have been dropped. For the first time in months I have used my airbrush in anger........felt real good to shoot some paint! She still needs another coat, but this is a OK start.

CAG- Good show old bean!  Looks like another stunner coming down the pipes! Approve [^]  I thank ye for the rum as well, and the girls. Mischief [:-,]  I took a look at the gallery, and I think you have a photo of the Roc in place of Aaron's Sea Hurricane.  There is one of the Roc, then the Skua, then the Roc again.

Richie- I love that little Stringbag, and admire it every time I see it.  Well done mate! Big Smile [:D]

Cap'n Aaron- Thanks for re-posting the night fighter pics my friend! Thumbs Up [tup]  You amaze me with your builds, incredible stuff!  So, how are those Stringbags coming along?

Where's Nam?  Figured he would be here for rum this time. Grumpy [|(]

Bloody incredible stuff here mates.  Aaron, your stable is very impressive indeed.

Looking throught the pictures on the front pages I notice that my Corsair is not there.  Then I went looking for my finished pics and realized I had not taken any final ones!  Shock [:O]Ashamed [*^_^*]  I shall do that ASAP before Cpt. McNeal sends the troops after me and withholds my rations.

  A couple more. Sean's  1/48 Monogram Devastator

Have you seen this boy????

Admral Jeaton also did a cool B-17 Coastal Command  in 1/72.

I remember a couple Corsairs by Dave and BobaFett but not sure if they finished or I missed the finish?  Back around pg 435 ish?  Bondo had a killer PBY somewhere. Looked real . I forgot my PBY as well but no biggy!  Anyone else remember any other works!  Gotta catch the Cag while he is sober. Cpt Bondo been lacing his rations me thinks!

 Ok I promised some Stringbag pics!  Here is the 1/32 Trumpeter Fairey Swordfish MkI in the markings of the Channel Dash of 1942.

 All attacking Swordfish were lost in this attempt to stop the German heavy cruisers Scarnhorst, Gneisenau, and Prinze Eugen . Only 8 of the crew members survived the ordeal. Still the incident was strongly viewed by the public as very heroic as these men without fighter escort attacked 3 modern heavy cruisers covered by squadrons of 190's and 109's  without hesitation.

 No torpedo's struck home. The only damage was done to the Gneisenau when she struck a mine and all three German Cruiser escaped to safer ports north.

 This failure was viewed more as a symbol representing the courage of the British Naval air crews against impossible odds and though tragic became viewed more so with pride in these brave men and not as a defeat.

 I have often heard from veterans that it is always the best and bravest that don't come home. Such was the case in the Channel Dash.

Actually I read that Scharnhorst struck a mine too. It was a heroic effort by the FAA and the Kreigsmarine, and was a real failure by the RN to intercept the group with lighter units on the surface.

If you look at the maps of the dash, the Germans hugged the coast of France all the way to avoid British radar and shore forts. Imagine that these days; 10 miles made a difference.  It's no wonder Swordfish were effective.

Very good history synopsis, Aaron. You have a collection to be admired.

Frank,

Congrats on the pics and the check.

Neu,

Been following your build as I have that kit in the stash as well.  Hope mine comes out as nice as yours.

CAG,

Thanks for posting all the pics.  Just one thing, in the NAVAIR build from last year you called it the UCMC instead of the USMC.  Do you really want to upset the Marines?Whistling [:-^]

Aaron,

I think you've built more in the last 6 months than I've finished in the last 2 years.  Look forward to seeing you build the Tamiya kit.  I've got some pics of Kermit Weeks' Sunderland from when I was at his place in 07.  I'll post em here and on my fotki page if you're interested.  That's a big mother, have you got enough wallspace to hang it on?  Btw, the first locksmith company I worked for sold stunguns and as an employee I had to try them out so we'd know if they were good enough.  You don't have to worry about me using a stungun on you, as I found them to be rather weak.  Do have a surprise for you should I find you slacking.Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]Make a Toast [#toast]

Well  thanks fellows. I am happy you like them as I have said I really enjoy it and the company here! Make a Toast [#toast]Pirate [oX)] I have build all the FAA stuff since the 1st of May. The US Navy Stuff was last years GB subject and I just barely got that monster Ventura done before we switched under threat from the lash from CAPT Bondo! Black Eye [B)]

 I look at that front page and am very humbled by the great work I see on it. Pretty fine stuff there to be compared too! Shy [8)]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

 I am not sure I ever got a three thumbs up award yet either so there is a goal! Laugh [(-D]

 Johnny I shall try harder before Ritchie stuns me with some sorta Austrailian shocker gun! Shock [:O]Dead [xx(]

 I have to say I don't usually pick favorites but this one really grabs the spirit of the GB for me!

Now what could the CAG be doing at the LHS? Mischief [:-,]

 Must need a few more boxes to help reenforce the shop walls from those double agents!

No, I certainly do not want to upset the the United States Marine Corps, God Bless them.Captain [4:-)]

"From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job --
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines."

As promised, I've uploaded photos of the Corsair that I did for the US Navy GB earlier this year.  Sorry for the delay but I guess I was hoping to finish the dio I had planned before posting the final pics.  The dio idea is close to being done but I was waiting to find a figure or two to go with it and finally picked some up recently.  Will post some pics when it is complete.

EDIT:  Kit is the 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1A
