let me again say that to me it isnt finishing by the so called deadline.  to me it is just to finish it.  i put a deadline on it as i want to remind all why this build came into being.  i look forward to seeing all the entries done.

A week till Friday the 7th! The B-12 is mostly together, I'm researching the final color scheme. There was probably one B-12 at Bellows Field, in the 86th, but I haven't been able to find a photo of any at any Hawaiian fields on that day, period, so have a little mercy. After '38 they would have been painted silver, with tail feathers, and eventually OD/NG.

I've learned a lot about Bellows, and am planning a trip to all the forgotten fields sometime soon, maybe in 2011. Sorry no pics but I'll do some this weekend.

it took me a bit more time than I thought....

Flaps are in place  - I put a wing structure on the upper wing and leave flaps in down position. I cat off the cawling flaps and put some tubes to simulate radiators.

On the nose I put a resin to build inlets - I made holes and placed the nose into the fuselage

Here is a kit as stands today

only the upper wing is glued to the fuselage at this point 

Tomorrow will be a putty filling and sanding soon - a lot of sanding.... its a Monogram " border="0" />

Joe, indeed, it is a very nice build !

A little update on my project. I finished panels scribbing on the wings and attached top wings to the fuselage. Pretty good fit (and it is an old 1/48 Monogram kit of P-40B).

I put Wheels and UC details from a resin set - mostly because of lack of Wheel Wells on original kit.
Still a lot of work but this kit looks like a hot P-40 already ! I hope I will not damage any parts on a final approach Pictures will be availale after this Weekend - plan for a primer coat

i dont doubt my scheme is incorrect.  i will have to recheck and then repaint if needed.

for those who are entered into this build there is one month to go.  at least for the "end date".  i encourage you to finish regardless if you finish by dec 7 or not.  dont let it end up as one of the unfinished never to be finished types.  

to this event also the build is now closed to new entries.  i do this so no one tries to rush through from entry to finish.

Joe, more than the ship (which is nice) I like the sentiment that goes into your builds. THis model has a lot of meaning and displays it well. I get the chills when I think about all of those men on this ship who went to an early grave. But these give way to the feelings of pride when I think back at how our country banded together, made sacrifices and found a way to endure the long, hard years of the War.

Two thumbs up on your build, and an extra thumb for the GB idea!

for some reason i cant post the pix   will post it up soon hopefully,  im almost done with the upper hull part of the Akagi.  its ready to be paint but need to know the color for the upper hull part and also need to know the color on the flight deck cuz i wasnt sure if there was a soild red circle or is it dark gray?   here is the website i found    let me know thanks

Hi guys, I wanted to clear up a question that was posed on the Aircraft Forum about "Mucker's" Ken Taylor P36.  I mentioned in my Val build that it was shot down by Ken Taylor in a P40.  I wanted to verify that on that day, he was actually flying a P40 and not a P36.  On the website Pearlharborhero.net  there are some good pictures and articles about Ken and Geroge.  Even though they are pictured at times with a P36 in the background, it was indeed P40's that they flew.  The story goes that their planes were destroyed at Wheeler so they drove 10 miles to Haleiwa Landing Field to get a couple of P40's.

I'm good on the OD green, it's just the underside i'm not certain on. Guess i'm trying to decide on sticking with the neutral grey, or go with what my references seem to be telling me. Decisions, decisions.....

The underside gray in these schemes is refered to as "Neutral Gray", sometimes #43 Neutral Gray (to go with #41 Olive Drab). The FS # is 36173.

I wouldn't get too stressed out about the O.D., as pretty much an shade you can come up with would fit within the large range of weathering this was subject to. Some of the old color photos show it faded into a brownish color!

That's a really neat trick! I'll have to see how that works for me when i get to that point. Thanks for the tip, Mucker!

I do have a color question though, with my build. Not just the P-40, but most all aircraft from that era with the OD scheme, i'm seeing a bit of a discrepany with the underside color. In the instruction sheet, if calls for a grey underside (but convieniently it does not list any kind of FS code) but in most all the reference materials that i have in my library, it shows more of a white underside as best as i can tell. I'm a little uncertain which is correct. Does anyone have any insight to this?
