JWB, please, you must talk some sense into my modeling consious (aka my wife)Big Smile [:D].  She just doesn't understand about the Spitfire.  I love that aircraft and would dearly love to have 3 or 10 in the stash (all marks) but my consious gets the better of me, proabably for my own good!Laugh [(-D]  I have a ton of subjects I want/need to build that involve Spitfires but I kind of promised my consious that I would finish what I have in my stash, which is pretty small considering.

1 1:72 - Heller Bf-109b about 40% complete (very late Spanish civil war GB Sad [:(])

1 1:72 - Hasegawa Bf-109g about 35% complete (for BF-109 GB and Axis Aces GB Tongue [:P])

1 1:570 - Revellogram Titanic about 10% complete? (For Revell Monogram GB Black Eye [B)])

in the box:

1 1:72 - Revell Panzer III (waiting for Eastern Front GB Smile [:)])

1 1:72 - Heller Me-262b Propeller [8-]

1 1:72 - Heller Arado Ar-196 Cowboy [C):-)]

1 1:72 - Airfix Tornado Gr.Mk4 (For Welcome Back Airfix GB Cool [8D])

1 1:72 - Airfix Bf-110c/d with eduard basic PE and AM Decals for Joachim Jabs BoB ac. This one is going to be a real piece of work, I am going to fix a lot of stuff on this one like do my own vacuform canopy, rescribe panel lines, scratch an interior and somehow re-do the prop hubs and landing gear/bays.  It might just be worth it to get the fugimi kit! Shock [:O] (but I am a sucker for punishment...Sigh [sigh])

1 1:48 - Monogram P-51D with ultracast seat Approve [^]

1 1:48 - Monogram P-38J with AM decals for "Jandina" flown by Jay T. Robbins Captain [4:-)]

1 1:48 - Monogram B-17G with AM decals for "American Beauty"  I also have an old completed Monogram 1:48 B-17G which survived a fall from the ceiling relatively intact.  I plan on repairing it, stripping and repainting it and putting on the kit supplied "Chowhound" decals. Big Smile [:D]Yeah!! [yeah]

So that's it, I know it is not a lot of kits but with the time it takes me to build, these should last me a long time (3 years???)

Jay-you must tell your wife that you currently have a 2:1 ratio of axis to allied craft in your stash.  I'm sure that there is an international modeling law somewhere that mandates a 1:1 ratio of axis:allied.  At least it's worth a try Wink [;)]

That's quite the list Jay!  It doesn't seem like much with the monster stashes you see on the forums but like you said it works out to several years worth of builds.  My own Consious is getting louder and louder these days.  My current purchase to build ratio is about 3:1 so the stash is getting too hard to conceal. Sad [:(]

Bob, I like how you think!!!

Dave, she does make a point though as I don't really want a ton of kits sitting around for years either.

I picked up Winsor & Newtons Raw Umber (acrylic)  What is the ratio of water, umber and dish soap?

Roy, I hope I can help you out with that one, because I've never used the acrylic oils, just the ones that thin with mineral spirits, but if they're roughly the same consistancy, then I would start with anywhere from an 8:1 to 10:1 ratio of water to paint with just a drop of dishsoap added and go from there. What you're going to look for is something that looks like murky water without the surface tension. Hope that helps.

Roy, you could water it down even more than that depending on how heavy a wash you are looking for.  The drop of dish soap is VERY important as otherwise it will not flow into the crevices and will instead pond on flat surfaces becasue of the surface tension. My 2 cents [2c]

wyoroy-the proportions above are a good starting point for sure.  Get some black, or Payne's gray, and some white so you can vary the shade a little.  Sometimes form one area to the next or it might be necessary depending what base color you are putting it over.

Appeal to the kind, caring side. Get a sad face and repeat this:

Somewhere out there is a Spitfire.

A sad Spitfire.

A lonely Spitfire.

Why is it a sad and lonely Spitfire?

Because it sits lonely and unbuilt on a shelf somewhere.

But it doesn't have to be that way!

For just a small amount.... pennies a day really over the course of it's lifetime, you can make a difference in the life of a Spitfire.

So have compassion on that Spitfire..... bring it home today.

You can't help all the sad, lonely Spitfires. You're only one person. But you can help one. By doing so, you can be part of the solution. Together, we can make sure there are no homeless Spitfires.

PS: Enjoy your Spitfire, jboutin. Wink [;)]

Methinks if you rummage a bit you might find sumfin or nuther! Big Smile [:D]

Seriously- I picked up the ICM Mk. VII today at the LHS, and it looks really, really nice. Worth a look for one of the more rarely built Spitfires. The guy at the shop said it wasn't a shake and bake kit, but he said it was better than a typical Airfix or Revogram kit. The detail in the office is extremely nice, and it has a full engine.

All this talk about sad and lonely Spitfires put me in mind of a certain Silver Cloud Spiteful I started on about two years ago, so I dug it out.   It is a sad "Spitfire".  I spent the last 3 hours working on getting the shape of the fin and rudder right.  Grumble grumble Sigh [sigh].

What the heck, if I'm going to have the first of the breed, I have to have the other bookend too, right?

Not sure if the Spiteful will be done in before this GB winds up, though.  Not for the faint of heart.  Anybody want the Silver Cloud Sea Fang that is also in my stash?

John

Dave, funny you should mention yard sale, we are going to have a garage sale in a few weeks... I will be watching my stash with eagle eyes, better yet I'll put them in a locked drawer and swallow the key... well maybe not, that might get a little messy...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

JWB that is an excellent idea! I know where there is lots of spitfires that need a kind and caring hand to construct them and give them a good warm home after. Wink [;)] My b-day is comming up in a few months....hmmmTongue [:P]

Is that a pic of the Sea Fang?  Not familiar with it, but looks like a beautiful aircraft.

No, it's the Spiteful, the Seafang is almost the same, the main differences are that it had contra-rotating props and a different lower rudder because of the hook.

John,

I've always wanted a plane with the contra rotating props!  I've been looking for the Airfix Spitfire 46/47, but no luck anywhere.  Do you really want to get rid of the Sea Fang?  How much would you want for it?

Hi Everyone,

I've not been around much due to work, hope all is well.Thumbs Up [tup]

Seeing as its a while before this one gets started, I thought I would post a couple of pics of a build I did a couple of years ago.

This is Revell's 1/32 Spitfire Mk.Ia built OOB with the exception of some PE seatbelts. Its a fairly  simple kit but one of my favourites as I enjoyed building it so much. This one is in its Battle of Britain livery with decals mixed and matched from the kit.
